Editorial Guide PDF Print E-mail
By NVS

altOur motto is "a marketplace of ideas". As such, we welcome a variety of articles on any subject under the sun, especially those with relevance to the Nigerian and African condition.

However, there must be methods even in this marketplace and as such; we recommend that would-be writers observe the following guidelines on articles:

1. Articles must meet the normal grammatical standard of written English, including the use of correct punctuation and spelling. Articles that fall way short of the standard, but which in the opinion of the NVS Editorial team still deserve to be published for reasons other than grammar or presentation shall be edited by one or more of the NVS Editors to meet the acceptable standard.

2. They should strive to be accurate where names, places and dates of events are mentioned.

3. They should be broken up into easily readable paragraphs marked with clear space in between. Please review our formatting rules and guidelines here

4. Do not post content which you've copied from someone else and don't own the copyright. They should be original. However, relevant quotations from other sources may be included, as long as they are clearly marked as such. Plagiarized materials are not welcome and where unknowingly published, the author takes full responsibility for this and could be open to legal action for loss of reputation from the NVS. Content that is not acceptable includes news stories (except where the story is high impact and has just broken or is an exclusive) and newspaper editorials.

5. They should as much as possible refrain from personal insults and gratuitously inciting ethnic or group hatred.

6. They should be roughly at least 750 words long.

7. Where the article that is being posted is a rejoinder to another article, it should contain links or specific references to the original article to enable readers to refer to this original article.

8. Formatting:

  • Please adhere to the default fonts of the site.
  •  Please keep the introtext to no more than one paragraph of no more than 30 words.
  •  Break articles up into readable paragraphs
  • Use Title Case For The Titles Of Your Articles .

9. If you wish to submit an article, you will need to register (if you haven't done so already). To register, please go here:

http://www.nigeriavillagesquare.com/forum/register.php

Once you have registered, you should be able to submit your article. To do that, follow these instructions:

- Go to http://www.nigeriavillagesquare.com and log in by entering the username/password that you registered with in the fields at the top right of the page.

- Once you have logged in, you will see a 'Post New Article' button. Click on this button - it will take you to a form where you can submit your article.

- Follow the five simple instructions on the form. In other words, enter the following:

    - the title of your article;

    - your name;

    - some introductory text for your article;

    - the main body of your article;

- Then click on the Save button, and you are done.

Please note that we now require all new authors to use their real names when submitting articles. Also, please ensure that your article meets the guidelines above, as repeated submissions of non-standard articles could result in a removal of your ability to submit articles.

Observance of these guidelines will greatly increase the writer's chance of being published. The Nigerian Village Square however is under no obligation to publish any work submitted.

Thank you, and welcome to NVS.

The Plight Of The Nigerian Retirees

  Most Nigerians retire without any plans for the future in the recent past. Not until recently when pencom came into being. Even with this recent development a lot needs to be done to ease the stress pensioners go through to access their entitlements. The verification excercises carried out are so tedious that it sometimes it leads to death at verification centres. And how much are the pensioners trying to access. Patry some sums which there have been clamours for increment. Nobody seems to care enough about the demands.

I just want to use this medium to strongly recommend that we have come to a stage where people must retire with earning power. There are networking businesses that you earn from even when you retire. These businesses cost little or nothing to set up.  The Pension Fund Administrator(s) (PFAs) should begin to see the need to exploit these investment havens to secure the future of Nigerian workers/eventual retirees.
