Glad to see that NI has returned after a seemingly long break.
While I have enjoyed some of your past shows, dis one get as e be. About 30% seems to be cut-and-pasted bits from past clips. The bulk of what's left runs like an infomercial for Amen Estates with gratuitous virtual shots of their development which is advertised as "Western living". Is Western the standard? Why not simply call it something like "comfortable" living or "sumptuous" living? That said, its nice to see the irrepressible Nigerian spirit at work. Welcome back NI and good luck!

One unique thing about this programme is that it features different presenters. This time it´s pleasing to see Weird. She was amongst the first crop of Nigerian artists to demonstrate this generation of vibrant Nigerians can come up with tracks deserving international airwaves.

Back on the core content of the programme however, it was not clear if Amen Estate is still a concept or finished product. The words of those behind the project suggests it´s done and ready, while the visuals only SCREEM ´concept´: the entire clip of the project in both the programme and the promo were computer generated (CGs), and no clue as to the cost of the units was given.

Do the producers of this programme have any answers?

Thanks very much for all your comments so far.

Repeated features:
This new season coincided with the expansion of our TV broadcast coverage. NI is now shown at the same time across the AIT Nigeria network, AIT in the USA, as well as BEN TV across Europe. In order to properly introduce the show to our new audiences, the first show of the season (not available here on this site) was made up of highlights from previous episodes. The episode here on this page is the second of the new season, and it also contains some repeat material.

We're now a couple of months into production of the new season. There are many new episodes yet to be posted on here, and you can be assured that they contain very little of previously aired material.

Amen Estate:
This is a fantastic new estate, currently in development in Lekki, Lagos. Please contact them for further info about their phased development plans. www.amenestate.com. No apologies for the infomercial. We will always maintain a careful balance between editorial and commercial output, but many Nigerians abroad would like to know about such developments as Amen Estate.

Please keep your comments coming. You can post them here or directly to us at info@nigeriainternational.com. They are all appreciated, whether they are complimentary or otherwise. And thanks very much for your patience and support in the period when new episodes weren't appearing here on this website.

Dito on the comments about Amen Estate. When Ummuna or Exxcuzme buy their Amen Estate “western” homes and start living inside and even born pikin there sef, and we come and do naming ceremony, then maybe me too go invest. Right now, as far as I am concerned, it is merely a concept…..yup…a 4-1-9 one! How can you be showing me computer-assisted virtual simulations of what you want me to invest in? Me sef, dem don sell me finish! All those virtual 3-D pictures we were looking at can be found on the Internet – free of charge (I hope they have not violated any copyright or plagiaristic laws). Give me the real deal. Even if it is still under development, show me the brikilas that are working on the site. Even that one gan sef is pushing it. They may be brikilas working on some other private individual’s house! Look at the architect’s office – one bland/ordinary looking table with one lap top on it. No certificates or degrees on the wall. Se person go be architect una no go see orisi-risi plans and blue prints everywhere! Hmmm Amen Estate una try oh!

Hi All,

I believe the idea of Amen estate is a good one. All doubters need to do is send somebody verify in Lekki. If it is true I might be moving to the 3 condo one when is finished. But like NaijaPro said they need to show us video of construction or something tangible. This applies to the TINAPA site also.

I will be relocating to Nigeria Next year against the wish of my parents. Nothing works they tell me. And I say, I spent 17 years of my life with nothing working, so I am used to it. There is nothing new under the sun.

Call me cynical, but i'm taking this whole Amen-Estate thing with a large dose of salt, until i see something concrete on ground. This promo has been going on now for the better part of one year with no Show House (a must for a development of this magnitude) to give prospective investors/buyers an idea of what they're investing in.Computer generated designs at this stage don't cut it, not for the money they're asking for.

As pointed out in an earlier response on this thread, the Architects office (the one TRYING to get us excited about this dream) is quite austere looking and doesn't particularly inspire confidence in someone looking to buy a house through his company. I think they (Amen-Estates) need to improve on their marketing.

I'm glad to see N-I is back though. The production is pure class and methinks they could take Amen-Estates aside and give them a quiet word on presentation.

Cheers, Ernest.

FG approves 248 names for 2006 National Honours

By Rotimi Ajayi

Posted to the Web: Thursday, September 28, 2006

ABUJA—Information and National Orientation, Mr Frank Nweke, yesterday announced that 79 foreigners including 6 Americans, 8 Britons, 34 Lebanese, Isrealis, French, Swiss, Italian, Sri Lankan , Syrian and Ugandan would be conferred with Nigerian citizenship. Mr Frank Nweke Jnr told journalists after the council session that while the 79 foreign nationals scaled the hurdle for the conferment of Nigerian citizenship, five applications were rejected while six were deferred as additional information are required on their application.
Nweke said that the treatment of applications "are very rigorous," noting that most of those whose citizenship were approved started the process since 2002.
................................................................................................................................

Nigerians rush out (to be third class citizens of other countries), foreigners rush in (to take up top spot citizenships).

Nigerians have a penchant for rushing out. Why? Some say mostly because we are not painstaking; we are looking for ready-made, instead of being the ones making things ready. A German company owner who has lived in Nigeria for more than 20 years once asked why Nigerians tend to want to leave, when their country is flowing with milk and honey. He went on to say that if he could make it in Nigeria, he did not see why Nigerians cannot. Watch out as we will dash back to Nigeria in a frenzy, when (ever)/if (ever) things get better. We are a funny set of creatures.

cdimkpa,

It is in human nature to try somewhere else if circumstances in a given society fails one´s attempt at survival. Millions of Isrealis didnt end in up Germany and Poland before the Holocaust by mistake. And it was not by chance too that 90 percent of those who lost their lives in Titanic were mid/low class European citizens - they were all migrating to the US in a bid to escape the then European economic recession.

Since there is no encouraging production environment in Nigeria, some traders discovered they could make a living by importing shoes from China. 2 years into their success a few Chinese businessmen approached the Nigerian government, paid a few million dollars and now have their own mini-China shoe town in Lagos Island, effectively snuffing life off the home struggling Aba shoe manufacturing market, and of course running thousands of international traders out of business. While these Chinese businessmen may be amongst the foreigners seeking Nigerian citizenship because it pays them, the Aba shoe producer and his Dubai shoe importer who may not have been trained for anything else, could be frustrated into packing up and leaving for the unknown overseas - this is not just a story, I have met one of the victims of this incident in the London. The scenarios in other sectors vary, but often boils down to the same results - the foreigner (often called expert/investor in Nigeria) seeing bounty opportunities, where the native is faced with frustration and dispossesions

In such a land as Nigeria that offers far much more opportunities to foreign whites than her own citizens, I am amazed that only about less than three hundred of almost a million of foreigners there seek citizenship yearly, and I assure you they are doing it to retain full ownership or controlling shares of their companies. Today, Nigerian graves habour the most unfulfilled dreams of any given people around the world. I have often heard of success stories of returnees as seen in certain Nigeria International episodes, but no one has interviewed the thousands who tried returning, got frustrated only to return overseas again to start afresh.

I pray for the day Nigerians can truly say things are not good yet, but there is a man now at the top who honestly wishes to rebuild. You will see Nigerians returning not because things would have been good already, but only because there is a geniune will and attempt to rebuild this nation, arguably the most potential the world over. I shall be one of them ´rushing back´if in my life time
