Falana asks minister to name ‘VIP' in airline's delayed landing

altLagos lawyer Mr. Femi Falana has given the Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah, seven days to provide the name of a “very important personality” (VIP) who caused the delayed landing of an Arik aircraft at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, for over 25 minutes on June 19.

He said the request, made under the Freedom of Information(FOI) Act, 2011, is to enable him sue the supposed VIP for endangering the lives of over 150 passengers on board the plane.

Falana said: “Take notice that if you fail or refuse to accede to my request within seven days of the receipt of this letter, I shall not hesitate to apply for an order of mandamus at the Federal High Court with a view to compelling you to disclose the identity of the said Very Important Personality forthwith.”

The popular lawyer made the request in a letter to the minister, entitled: Illegal Prevention of Arik Plane from Landing At the Nnamdi Azikwe Airport Due To VIP Movement.

He noted that the Freedom of Information Act, 2011, imposes a duty on all public officers to make requested information available to the public.

Falana said he and other passengers were subjected to unwarranted mental and psychological torture while the Arik plane was hovering in the air.

21st June 2012

The Minister of Aviation,
Ministry of Aviation,
Federal Secretariat,
Abuja.

Illegal Prevention of Arik Plane From Landing At the Nnamdi Azikwe Airport Due To VIP Movement.

I boarded ARIK Flight No W3 271 from Lagos to Abuja at 10.20 am on tuesday, June 19, 2012. The flight which was scheduled to land at the Nnamdi Azikwe Airport, Abuja at 11.15 am was illegally prevented from landing by the Airport Authorities until 11.46 am due to the alleged "movement of a Very Important Personality".

Having regard to the June 3,2012 Dana plane crash in Lagos which killed all the 153 passengers and crew on board as well 10 other persons in their homes I was subjected to unwarranted mental and psychological torture. Most other passengers on board were equally traumatised as the ARIK plane was forced to hover in the air for 25 minutes.

From the information at my disposal the President of the Republic, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan had travelled to Brazil on Monday, June 18, 2012 to attend the Earth Summit while the Vice President, Alhaji Namadi Sambo was attending an emergency meeting with the country's security chiefs (over the terrorist attacks which led to the mindless killings of scores of innocent people in Kaduna and Yobe States) at the material time. When the plane eventually landed i was reliably informed that there had been a restriction of movement at the airport for over one hour. In the process the fundamental right of hundreds of people to freedom of movement was violated by the Airport Authorities at the instance of the said Very Important Personality.

In the light of the foregoing I am compelled to request you to furnish me with the name of the said Very Important Personality to enable me to sue him for endangering the lives of over 150 passengers. This request is made pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, 2011 which has imposed a duty on all public officers to make requested information available to members of the public.

TAKE NOTICE that if you fail or refuse to accede to my request within SEVEN DAYS of the receipt of this letter I shall not hesitate to apply for an order of mandamus at the Federal High Court with a view to compelling you to disclose the identity of the said Very Important Personality forthwith.

Yours Sincerely,

Femi Falana.

It is this useless minister of Aviation who need to be sacked by GEJ.
Would a Minister, any Minister for that matter close the airspace for him/herself in the UK or USA?

What was the Aviation minister s background to feel so swollen-headed that she would order airspace closure for her "VIP self" and endanger the lives of fellow Nijas?

Abi the vampires who drank the blood of Dana crash victims require urgent replenishment?

For where?
I found out just recently that a district court judge running for elections lived 5 doors up my street
The kids told me because the man came knocking on doors and campaigning for votes
had this been Nigeria,I am sure thugs and police men and ndi bakassi boys would have been parading up and down my street.
Nigeria is an annoying place
But here nobody cares
You enter your house and conduct yourself in a civil manner, drive off and handle your business but in Nigeria every riff raff wants you to know thatthe have arrived.
Come home for Christmas you can't even enjoy the chirping of the crickets and singing of the birds in the village like when we were kids
My parents went to the village house ocassionally to escape the craziness in the town but these eediots have turned the village into something else
They will be disturbing you with sirens all over the place
even high school drop outs and people you know carried last in elementary school had govt.posts, vehicles with sirens and innocent citizens will have to clear road for them when they moved
Nigeria is an irritating place wallahi

If the President and Vice President were no where near that Airport who was the VIP ranking enough to have an Airport shut down for her? What were the security concerns that followed that Very Infamous Personality arrival or departure? Where did the person derived his or her authority to shut down the Airport in this particular case?

An Airport may be shut for the travel of the President or Vice President of the USA BASED ON SECURITY CONCERN( where there is Air force base large enough to handle his plane) but never for any other "VIP" in the USA.

In Nija, they beg/bribe for your votes and once sworn in become the king, blaring us off the highways with siren and now, using VIP air corridor to drive people from the air to untimely deaths!

Its less that a quarter that Dana plane crashed and the "vagabonds in power" are already flexing muscles in the air!

You will not be surprised to find out that the plane was conveying the VIP's forgotten chemicals used to paint her face.

One time on a trip from Lagos by road to PH, somewhere before Warri motorists including myself gave way to a siren blaring vehicle, it was to my utmost shock to discover a 504 station wagon with a lone driver & bed mattress at the back.

Why were you shocked? What time of the day did this happen? I onced observed a scenario, whereby siren was used to clear the road for a vehicle carrying two rams. I guess the VIP madam suddenly remembered she neededmore meat for her cooking. Yes, in Nigeria, nothing is impossible!

I once experienced something similar, only this time they were carrying a freezer at the back of the truck.

Its not just sirens they use o, they also use koboko to clear the road for themselves, one more reason to drive with your windows all wound up in Lagos.

You are not serious
Sirens to clear road for somebody's domestic animals on the way to the slaughter?
Lord have mercy
