Former Senator, Buruji Kashamu, dies of COVID-19 at 62/

A former Senator from Ogun State, Buruji Kashamu, has passed away at 62 after suffering complications from COVID-19.

Ben Murray-Bruce disclosed this in a post on his social media page on Saturday.

According to him, Kashamu breathed his last at First Cardiologist Consultants in Lagos.

The deceased, who represented Ogun East in the 8th Senate, held several political offices in the country.

He was, however, a subject of controversies over allegations of drug dealing in the US.

In 2015, there was a stand-off at his residence after operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) attempted to arrest him for extradition to the US.

His death further stretches the list of prominent figures who have passed away from the killer virus since the dawn of the year.

In a statement, former President Olusegun Obasanjo said the deceased managed to escaped punishment for his wrongdoings on earth but could not avoid death.

His words: “Senator Esho Jinadu (Buruji Kashmu) in his lifetime used the maneuver of law and politics to escape from facing justice on alleged criminal offence in Nigeria and outside Nigeria.

“But no legal, political, cultural, social or even medical maneuver could stop the cold hands of death when the Creator of all of us decides that the time is up. May Allah forgive his sin and accept his soul into Aljanah, and may God grant his family and friends fortitude to bear the irreparable loss."
