Nigeria has announced a strong 12-man roster for Afrobasket 2015 has been released. The final roster consists of

  • Chamberlain Oguchi – Anwil Wloclawek (Poland)
  • Al-Farouq Aminu – Portland Trailblazers (NBA)
  • Olaseni Lawal – Barcelona (Spain)
  • Alade Aminu – TED Kolejliler (Turkey)
  • Ike Diogu – Ponce (Puerto Rico)
  • Andy Ogide – Poitiers (France)
  • Michael Gbinije – Syracuse (NCAA)
  • Stanley Okoye – Bawer Matera (Italy)
  • Jamal Olasewere – Verviers-Prep (Belgium)
  • Olumide Oyedeji – London Lions (Great Britain)

The team is expected depart Italy today for Tunisia, site of the FIBA African championship. The winner of AfroBasket 2015 gains an automatic qualification into the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

After practicing and getting ready in Paris France and in Florence Italy, The national team nicknamed D'Tigers are hitting the right stride going into Afrobasket, In France, D'Tigers the team defeated Central African Republic 74-68 and USA East Coast by a score of 127-88 .After playing their first set of games in Paris, the team traveled to Italy, where they faced China's national team that is gearing up for the (2016) Olympics. Nigeria won both contests against a China roster that included Yi Jianlian, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft.

In the final warm-up game played yesterday, the team defetaed Texas A&M 79-47.

Nigeria, which plays in Group A alongside host Tunisia, Central Africa Republic and Uganda is among the favorites in the tournament, which concludes on Aug. 30. Nigeria faces Central Africa in its first game on Aug. 19, Uganda on Friday 21 August 2015 and the big game against the host Tunisia Sunday 23 August 2015.
