    No matter who you are, if you have no identity, you have lost it all. We identify with other people’s religion, social life, political and economic experiment without any respect for ours. The mere mention of authentic African culture, religion in particular, is enough to trigger a rage in some people, while those who separated from us hundreds of years ago managed to keep the same culture alive in the Diaspora. The nagging question is: if some of those Africans at home or abroad suffer identity crises could this be an indication of sophistication, self rejection or self-aggrandizement? We worry about these lost sheep because they change into wild cats.
    Hear ye, hear ye!

    It is amazing that some peeps will be advocating the "maintenance" of the "almighty Afro hair do" but will import all kinds of religions, systems of government and fashion fads at the same time.

    Well, how about that? To be or not to be, that is the question and answer!

    Sorry we are not "lost sheep"! My identity is "WHAT" ever I want to assume at any given place and time in the world. We live in a dynamic world and so I choose to have a "dynamic" identity.

    At least I know what I am at any given moment...............accepting the best of cultures in a medley that suits me just fine! Not confused at all!

    People who suffer identity crises have other psychological problems beneath the facade too. It just means you are not pleased with what you are because you definitely do not know whom or what you are!

    Dewdrops,

    This article reminds me of that Igbo proverb that say whenever old dry bone is mentioned, an old woman feels uneasy. May be you need to make some changes in order to be a proud African who can be comfortable with who you are without encouraging bad vibes.

    The image of dead African babies thrown into the sea while trying to land in Europe hit some of us like a rock. Allah dey, for where?

    What do you tell these mothers, that it could have been worse, that they were saved by some god.

    Only weaklings wait for gods they do not believe in or know to rescue them. Our leaders will never risk their lives by swearing with local gods but are just too happy to swear on Koran or Bible knowing full well they have no effect.

    ...And there's an Ekiti proverb that says Elenu rirun ni'lamu eye re
    {The person with a case of halitosis is still the owner of his/her mama's drinking water jar}.

    A similar one to it is "Bi mo tile mi run bi awuruko ona Ijero, emi ni l'oro baba mi"
    {Even if I smell like the he-goat on the way to Ijero, I'm still the custodian of my father's heritage}

    That is to say, Always be proud of who you truly are...

    Uncle Tisha,

    You must remember that Bobby Benson song: oleti ko leti, mafe. Onimu koni mu, mafe. Onidi koni di, mafe. Whatever she looks like, I go marry am so.

    It is like cheese, smelly or putrid depend on taste. The same with fine wine. May our gods help us see the road for ourselves o.
