INEC can't disqualify Atiku, says court

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Wednesday ruled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has no power to disqualify any candidate for the April polls. Vice-President Atiku Abubakar had gone to court to challenge his alleged disqualification from contesting the April presidential polls under the Action Congress Party.

Reacting, The AC Vice Presidential candidate, Senator Ben Obi commended the judiciary for upholding the provisions of the Constitution and the rule of law. On its part, the Movement for the Restoration and Defence of Democracy (MRDD) said the judgement t has confirmed its position that the power to disqualify any candidate resides with the courts and the electorate. MRDD's National Chairman, Muhammadu Gambo on Wednesday described the judgement as ''right and apt''.
