ENUGU—THE Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, South East zone, yesterday alleged that the Northern Islamist sect, Boko Haram and its sponsors had concluded plans to declare a Jihad against the Southern part of the country with the deployment of over 6,000 fundamentalists to the South to prosecute the war.

The association also claimed that part of the plot for the mass killing of Christians in the South was the alleged importation of a poisonous powder which Hausa suya sellers would use to poison the meat they sell as part of the Jihad, warning the people of the South to be careful about eating suya henceforth.

Chairman of CAN in the zone and Anglican Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Bishop Emmanuel Chukwuma, who raised the alarm at a briefing after the meeting of the association at All Saint's Cathedral, Enugu, condemned the Sunday bombings of churches which claimed over 40 lives, saying it had on good authority that it had declared war on Christians as part of the agenda to Islamize Nigeria.

He said: "We have information and documents to show that this is a Jihad being sponsored and we have our documents to show where they have dispatched 2,000 people to prepare for Jihad to South East, 2,500 to South-South and about 2,000 to South West.

The names of those who are sponsoring this are in our hand now. So, it is a form of Jihad to make sure that Nigeria is frustrated and islamized and we are saying we are going to resist it, we are prepared to resist and they will not succeed. We have our information because there is already a Boko Haramist that was converted and has leaked most of these secrets to us and we have our document and information. So at the appropriate time we shall strike and we are waiting for them."

"We are warning our people to be careful of suya because we have now heard that they will start poisoning people through suya.* They know the suya they give themselves in the North and suya they give to the people in the South. So people should be careful of suya.

That is part of the information available to us now.* There is a powder that is now being imported which they will spread on suya and after two weeks it will start eating your liver and other organs.* We have gotten that information also.

The press should let the people know because when people start dying because of eating of suya don't say I did not say as Bishop Chukwuma. Let the Sultan hear that because he told our youths the other day that everything that is happening, he has a way of obtaining information, I too have a way of collecting my information and we are ready to match force with force right now."

Expressing disappointment and dismay in the security agencies, Bishop Chukwuma lamented that it was disturbing that they could not put in place measure to forestall the bombing of churches which had reoccurred every Sunday.

"Are Christians no longer free to worship God on Sundays?* What are the security operatives doing on Sundays when they know that Sundays have become a target to bomb Christians?* What is the Inspector General of Police doing? Is changing of uniform the reformation that we want or action to make what is happening in the North to be stampeded and stopped. *Again, what are the members of the House of Representatives and Senate doing to promulgate law that will sanction those perpetrating this evil?

"We call on the Federal Government to step up a serious security strategy that will protect lives and property of Christians in the north to avoid a volatile action from Christians in the South. We also want to put an alert that Christians in the South are ready to face them squarely because we heard that they have infiltrated this place, especially Enugu. *We are prepared for war- physically and spiritually against any form of attack on the church. Time has come for reprisal because nobody can stop us from worshiping our God", the South East CAN leader said.

He expressed regret that in spite of the huge budgetary allocation on security, the bombings have continued, stressing 'where is the high budgetary allocation on security, where are they spending the money? It means that corruption has become part of it."

Bishop Chukwuma, however, declared that Christians were fully prepared for war "physically and spiritually" to defend themselves against any attack on churches and worshipers anywhere, declaring that "nobody will stop us because the time has come for reprisal."

Such kind of a plot has the tendency to partial success or complete failure because a large number of these Suya men are known residents in the vicinity. I think it will take a lot of consultation to plan out this type. It's unlike the conventional types where faceless mujahideens are deployed to carry out attacks.

Palm wine in Igbo land comes in two sources: nkwu (palm tree) - the source of the palm wine known as "Mmanya Nkwu", and ngwo (rafia palm tree) - the source of the palm wine, known as "Mmanya Ngwo". Each of the palm wine categories are regarded with different respects. Each has different functions in different occasions, depending on of course, how that particular area or village regards it.

In production, they are tapped in much the same way, by climbing to the required height or to the neck of the palm tree and cutting ducts, under which are placed local mugs (calabashes) or plastic gallons. In some areas, the "Mmanya nkwu" is tapped also from a fallen palm tree. However, it is worth mentioning that the quantity of "Mmanya ngwo" obtainable from the palm tree is usually about thrice that of "Mmanya nkwu" within the same time limit.

In taste, they are also different while "Mmanya ngwo" tastes very sweet (sugary) but goes sour (fermentation) within a shorter duration. The "Mmanya nkwu" has a unique sweet, but pleasant taste which it maintains for a longer duration. Some areas in Igboland regards "Mmanya nkwu" better than "'Mmanya ngwo". This preference sometimes depends on the availability of one over the other in that area. Hence in some areas, traditional marriage and bride price ceremonies are not honoured with "mmanya ngwo", some other areas can accept "mmanya ngwo" where "mmanya nkwu" is not available. In some areas, the preferred kind of wine is employed in settling land disputes, in traditional gatherings, marriages, burials, festivities, land leasing occasions, among a host of other activities and ceremonies too numerous to mention.

When being served in any occasion, the associated rules are obeyed. In any gathering, it is the youngest man or male that serves the wine, which is usually drunk traditionally in either elephant tusks or cow horns for titled men. There is also another drinking cup called "Okuku", a small type of cup made from a calabash. The young man serving will hold the wine container (calabash or gallon) on his left lap (thigh) and supports it with his left hand, while he holds the tusk or horn ("mpi" or "Okuku" - calabash cup) in his right hand. The first one he serves is handed to the host to drink. The second goes to himself, while the third goes to the eldest man in the gathering.

After all the formalities, the rest of the men are equal, and are served except for titled men who are served first before the others. But if the young man is to serve the wine standing, he holds the base of the container with his right hand and the neck with his left hand, while the partakers holds out their cups for him to pour out the wine. This is not the case for a woman. If she is to be served the wine, the young man pours it himself and hands the cup of wine to her, who in turn receives it with both hands as mark of respect and honour. She must not drink it while standing in the gathering; she squats down or sits somewhere before drinking it. If at any point the young man decides to shake the container to make for even concentration, he must first drop the container on the ground before he continues serving and the first person to tap him will receive a cup of wine.

The last cup of palm wine which contains the dregs (Ugwu mmanya) is usually given as a mark of honour to the eldest or the host. The Igbo man, you may infer, is actually rich in culture and tradition.

In subsequent write-ups, I will emphasize on the importance of Palm Wine to the Igbo race, and indeed the whole world.

The palm wine formality is observed to a "T" in my marital village
They don't joke with palmy and kolanut tradition.
The host will first pour out the first bit of the palmwine on the ground
then he drinks a sip from his cup and then the youngest person pours out the wine to the oldest man and goes down to the youngest male before the women.

In my place the dregs are given to a newly wed man...it is believed to have properties that make it good for making babies.
both in terms of giving him stamina for the sexual act itself, and the quality of the sperm produced.

Also Mai Ngwo is best for distilling into kai-kai...because it ferments quicker, and is therefore easily available for the fractional distillation that produces kai-kai...I sabi brew that thing well well.
Funny though, placing the palmy Jar on a cement floor makes it ferment sooner..and its then called 'over-night' which has more alchohol by volume, and is prefered by die-hard drinkers.

It has come to our notice that all cows brought from the north will be injected with poison so be aware and be warned, stay off beef.

To be safer, stay off any foods brought in from the north as they could easily inject them sith poison
