Default Oyakhilome's Flock Going Too Far?

OK, so I have randomly met 5 male members of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome's Church on separate occasions and I found a remarkable similarity in all of them...

    • They Bleach
    • They perm their hair
    • They wear clothes that I can only describe as ''pimptastic'' with alligator shoes (Usually white)

Apparently it is now a fad among Pastor Chris's members to not only walk in his image, but ''image in his image''. One other Nigerian guy I met said that he teased his friend who is a Christ Embassy member to stop relaxing his hair saying that it was because of him and other members, that the price of his wife's relaxer has gone up

    My people, what a gwan?

I don't know of anywhere else but in this Toronto, the fanaticism is on anoda levul; you would even wonder if it was Jesus Christ/God or Pastor Chris they were worshiping.

Pastor Oyaks is a flamboyant, very vain young man who goes about in loud convoy of cars and keeps bouncers at his church. They do not hesitate to bounce anybody, including photo journalists who as much as try to take photos around the church.

I wonder how these people would render accounts to Papa God in Heaven when they have "enjoyed" all their heavenly life in Lagos! Dem just dey chop life like yam!

    Yum,

I just decided to verify your story and asked Google: "Why was Chris Oyakhilome sent out of South Africa?" Wallah.....!

Pastor offered me R10 000 to sit in a wheelchair, stand up and walk

Faith healer or fake healer: Pastor Chris | From architecture to saving souls

Nigerian preacher and healer Pastor Chris Oyakhilome has been accused by a member of his own church of staging miracle-healing sessions.

Some of his followers have said that he has been hiring people to pretend to be sick and disabled and then "be healed" during his television shows and public prayer meetings.

A man who did not want to be identified for security reasons said: "I was offered R10 000 to rehearse and pretend to be in a wheelchair three weeks before the all-night prayer called Night of Bliss at the Johannesburg Stadium."

Last weekend Pastor Oyakhilome hosted an all-night prayer at the stadium. The source told Sowetan that he started attending Christ Embassy church in Randburg last year.

He was recruited by one of the pastors and told he would be paid if he helped to draw crowds. "The pastor told me that they were looking for people to work for the church.

He said that I was going to sit in a wheelchair and be wheeled around while pretending to be physically ill. I would then stand up and walk as soon as Pastor Chris stopped praying for me."

The source also said that the people who are "healed" every time on stage are actually trained weeks before.

"Even children who are healthy are whisked around in wheelchairs. Some use crutches. "Everyone is allocated a person who tells the congregation about your background, your specific illness and suffering. "The pastor then raises his hands and places them maybe on your legs if you cannot walk, and a few seconds later you get up and walk around the room,"the source said. He said he called the church the day after their offer and turned them down.

"I just told myself that using the word of God to lie to desperate people is immoral, so I refused to take up their offer," said the source.
A woman who went to the all-night prayer service, said: "When he started healing people, I did not see him call anyone from the audience. The people that he 'healed' came from a certain section of the audience and it looked like he came with them especially for the event.

"I saw a lot of people in wheelchairs leaving the venue who had not been healed. It was very sad.

"Lerato Moeketsi told Sowetan she was a loyal follower of the church and was disappointed that she could not make it into the stadium. "I had to turn back because the stadium was full. "There was no way I could go through to receive his blessing," she said.

Thousands of followers jostled for space at the stadium.

The seriously ill, mostly disabled and in wheelchairs, went to the service in the hope of being healed by Pastor Chris's powerful prayer. Another woman, Tshinanne Nemutudi, said she went to the all-night prayer service because she believed in Pastor Chris.

"I trust him the way I trust Jesus and God. "She said she had problems with her ankle but Pastor Chris had healed her. "While he was praying, he said we should all touch our body parts that needed to be healed. He said that if we believed then we would be healed."

Oyakhilome 's website describes him as a pastor, teacher, healing minister, television host and best-selling author whose career spans 25 years.

He runs the church with his wife, Pastor Anita, who is the director of Christ Embassy's international office and also preaches at the Christ Embassy churches in the United Kingdom.

Pastor Chris also hosts a religious programme on TV called Atmosphere for Miracles. At the Randburg branch, brother Onyeka Liozo said what the source and the followers said "was rubbish". "We have a healing school in Randburg. People ask and get healed.

People must stop lying about this holy crusade," said Liozo. He said that people come from outside South Africa for help.

Pastor Chris is both controversial and mysterious. The press is barred from taking pictures at his healing services.

Even for Romania dem dey fear am sef!!!!

False Prophets, Foreign Charlatans and Global Deception

    http://www.charismanews.com/opinion/...obal-deception

When I arrived in eastern Europe a few days ago I learned that Romanian Christians have quite a spiritual battle on their hands. Believers here struggled for years under communism. But now that they are free, they face an equally sinister struggle against cults, New Age teachings and—worst of all—charlatans who claim to be powerful Christian prophets.

One of the most controversial figures in Romania today is Chris Oyakhilome, a Nigerian broadcaster and faith healer who lives in South Africa. Although this smooth-talking preacher has never been to Romania, his influence has grown through his TV programs and books. Meanwhile, some gullible Romanian church leaders have visited his ministry base in Johannesburg and then returned to impart his miracle power to their congregations.

But Oyakhilome's "power" is questionable—and it is spreading not only in eastern Europe but in many other parts of the world, including the United States.

You may have never heard of Oyakhilome, but don't be surprised if his programs soon appear on a Christian television station near you. The founder of a movement called Christ Embassy, which began in Lagos, Nigeria, Oyakhilome already has 16 churches in the U.S., mostly attracting African immigrants in cities such as Dallas, Houston, Washington, D.C., and Atlanta. He has 39 churches in the United Kingdom (where many Nigerians live) and 18 in Canada, and his daily devotional books called Rhapsody of Realities are supposedly available in 70 languages.

Why is he so controversial? Consider a few facts:

*Nigerian Christians have long complained that Christ Embassy is a cult—mainly because members reportedly are forced to give money in offerings and are pressured to marry only within their church.
*Oyakhilome was accused of engineering a money laundering scheme in Nigeria in 2010, and questions swirl around his finances because of his glamorous lifestyle.
*Theologians and cult-monitoring groups have documented their concerns about Oyakhilome's "New Creation" doctrine—a form of gnosticism that says after a person becomes a Christian, any sin they commit is only in the body and will not affect the spirit. Oyakhilome mixes this doctrine with a hybrid version of the American prosperity gospel, claiming that God wants all people to be rich.
*Oyakhilome's reputation as a faith healer was tarnished badly in 2008 in Johannesburg when a man told a Soweto newspaper that Christ Embassy offered him more than $1,200 (U.S.) to sit in a wheelchair and pretend to be crippled until Oyakhilome prayed for him. The man went to the media instead of taking the money, sparking concerns that healings were being faked to impress growing crowds.
*Perhaps most disturbing is Oyakhilome's connection with T.B. Joshua, a Nigerian occult healer who leads a mysterious group called The Synagogue, Church of All Nations. Joshua, who claims his mother carried him in her womb for 15 months because he was a special prophet, mixes Pentecostal fervor with pagan spirituality. After coming under Joshua's influence a few years ago, Oyakhilome began copying some of his bizarre mannerisms.

When I came to Romania last week I was surprised to learn how many Christians here had come under Oyakhilome's influence. But as I did further research I found that Oyakhilome's popularity is growing far beyond eastern Europe. Thanks to YouTube, Internet TV channels and a public that is often biblically illiterate, Christians today are as vulnerable as ever to religious impostors and deceptive con-artists.

Jude, the brother of Jesus, warned us 2,000 years ago about such false prophets. "For certain persons have crept in unnoticed ... ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ" (Jude 4, NASB). Paul also warned that people will demand false teachers to fulfill their lusts, and that those teachers will "turn away their ears from the truth" (2 Tim. 4:3-4). Those ancient words are painfully relevant today.

Some Romanian church leaders have sounded an alarm. One of them, Ioan Peia, released a public warning in 2011 listing various false doctrines promoted by Oyakhilome. Peia urged Romanian church leaders to "repent and ask God's forgiveness, and ask the forgiveness of our brothers, because we allowed a part of these teachings to be spread among us and through us."

I feel I must sound an alarm as well. As much as I want to see healing miracles restored to the church today, I'm not willing to fling open the door to deception. The devil can fake miracles, and if we don't apply discernment in this vulnerable hour, impostors will sneak into the church and unleash their doctrines—with deadly results. Please don't be duped by counterfeits.

Pastor Chris is a very handsome man

He is very free to preach the WORD OF GOD ANYWHERE ON PLANET EARTH

He is married and not available.

No need trying to disguise a huge crush behind a thin facade of criticism

I don't know of anywhere else but in this Toronto, the fanaticism is on anoda levul; you would even wonder if it was Jesus Christ/God or Pastor Chris they were worshiping.

LOL, Anwuli, let me add one more----they speak through their noses, faking goodness-knows-what accents. Urggghh...

    LMAO!

Alright this is a cracker; I just saw it this morning.

    Fcuking weirdos they all are.

Gosh, Oluwa kuu suuru! (God is indeed patient!).

I like the line about Oyakhilome's flock being the cause of expensive hair stuff for women.

I don't know about others, but the image of the leader of a congregation matters to me. After I hadn't visited a church for many years, this nice, God-fearing young lady with a nice behind introduced to me for keeps by a loyal friend has encouraged me to visit her church. So, for the first time in about 7 years I stepped into a church, thanks to my interest in a woman with a nice behind!

Well, after driving an hour to attend Sunday service, I ran into the pastor on my way into the church building. The amiable guy (or, perhaps he was simply putting-on his pastoral charm) was just exiting his vehicle and he said hello to me, and we had a small chit-chat as we walked together into the building. I noticed he had one big-ass ring on his finger.

It was a small, beginner church with an entire African congregation. As the sermon wore on, interspersed with occasional bombast and misinterpretation of the scriptures (that's how I saw it anyways), I couldn't help being distracted by the massive ring on his finger. And then I began to notice other distractions on him: the funny punk hairstyle, his alligator or snake-skin (or whatever-skin) shoes, the bombastic pimp-like suit, the gold chain on his wrist, etc.

In time, I will go as far as to notice his SMD (shot-man-devil) appearance. Now don't get me wrong; I am not one to make of people's appearance, after all we are all God's wonderful creatures . But I was irritated enough to begin to notice things that I ordinarily would not notice. What were these people doing here fooling themselves, I dared to wonder. And the congregation was not your typical crowd of illiterates, but there were medical doctors and other professionals sitting their nodding their heads and egging the pastor on in his weird preaching.

(Among the congregation also were a few good-looking young ladies whom I saw and thought "Hmph, not so bad!" I have since found out that, outside of night-clubs and the likes, churches too carry their share of you know, badass looking ladies with whom you can hook-up. Hence why besides the benefit of getting to be before God to ask His forgiveness and blessings on a weekly basis, I always look forward to church on Sunday to go and admire His great work!)

Aaanyway, pardon the distraction. But as I was saying, I was irritated, or disturbed, midway into the service. I took occasional glances around me to see if I could look into the minds of my fellow congregants from looking at their faces, and perhaps hear their thoughts. That was no luck, as they all seemed enraptured by the man on stage and whatever the fcuk he was talking about. The occasional yelps and whoops and "yes pastor!" from the excited ones were jarring to my sensibilities. Eventually the extra-long service came to a close and carried my two-left-leg home.

Worse, the girl who invited me didn't even come to church on the said day. Don't ask me why. Maybe she felt like "dayemn no way in hell am I gonna be seen with this ugly brother!" Or maybe she genuinely had some event to attend out of state. Whatever the case was, I felt like I lost out all-rounder: no girl and no feeling of one who had just received heavenly sermon, after traveling for almost an hour to the church. Oh wait, it just occurred to me as I type this that perhaps God was punishing me for being inspired by a woman to attend church for the first time in 7 years.

But I've learned that God works in miraculous ways. There, you have my story. HA!

    hhmm, that pastor Oyakhilome sef...

This cousin of mine that was in the same class as him during their university days at Edo State Uny, Ekpoma, said authoritatively that the man was a proper olodo during his school days..

He kept failing almost all of his courses, but was so involved with preaching and doing church work that the teachers were persuaded to just give him pass mark so he would move on to the next level.

He spent longer than his classmates in school as a result of poor academic performance but was allowed to graduate due to his said deep involvement with god and church activities.

i swear when i heard this testimony, i laughed like a hyena and shook my head at the folly of some people being led in prayer into salvation by person wey nor even fit pass exams and write better academic papers.

Call me anything you like, but i've never done Naija churches and never will. I simply don't believe in them and their pastors lack credibility!!

    Ph3y,

I am hoping it is photoshop too oo! At least that was the assumption I was under initially but you have put the possibility of Oyakhilome donning Superman's costume in my head now...

Seriously though I think it is photoshop but I wanted to illustrate the over-zealousness of his flock. These people have too much time on their hands. Speaking to his members gives me the heebie jeebies. There is something very cultish about them. Honestly.
