What Brings You Joy?
Submitted by valteena
Jun 30, 2009
Question What Brings You Joy?

As for me, the list of what brings me joy is endless. For instance
Partaking in the worship of God brings me joy

Being with loved ones family and friends

Music, listening to music brings me a great sense of calm and joy particularly my favourite songs and artists

Lapping up nature's handiwork be it in its serene or tumultuous state(including sounds of nature like the sound of rain & thunder when I'm in bed).
Making love

Just driving to nowhere.

Countryside

Enough for now. So what brings you joy care to share?

- Verbal and practical expressions of true love. I love it when my five year old puts his tiny arms around me and tells me I am the best-est Mom in the world. (Usually, after getting a special treat sha)

- The sight of babies.

- Intimate sharing of any form with the love of my life... could be a tender look or hands interlocked.

- Taking a stroll along a lonely beach.

- inspirational quotes/writings/poems/songs.

- Worship that reaches the throne of grace.

- Weddings.

- Doing something sacrificial, especially when there's no prospect of reward from the beneficiary.

- Doing nothing whatsoever(rare privilege)... alone time to meditate, reflect and be still.

Travel- Being exposed to new experiences/people/culture and especially food!

Photography - Capturing and sharing these new experiences

The great outdoors - Nothing better.....

Cooking - there's just something therapeutic about it

Being active - anything that gets the HR up and the blood pumping makes me happy

Driving/Motorcycling- always makes my inner child smile

Reading/Learning- empowering

Spending time with family and loved ones; nothing special just soaking up the ambience and doing stuff together

Meeting new people; having nice getting to know you chats, finding out what makes people and their opinions,

Light hearted or deeper debates on sundry issues from the sublime to the mundane. If I can get away with playing devil's advocate, even better

Being mischievious and playing practical jokes on my nearest and dearest

Being generous, giving of my time, money, and effort for the benefit of someone else; known or unknown

Watching cartoons/animated films, fantasy/sci-fi and some other well shot movies

Reading fiction, and recently some blogs

Writing some of my own stories and poems, or reading them back

Listening to music, especially soft soothing ones

Traveling by air, water or land, admiring nature, taking photos

Even in the absence of these, life is wonderful and full of joy, you take it where you see it. Like the French will say "La vie est belle"...

Amy I feel you about weddings. I don't know if it is just the joy of watching to people happily dedicate their lives to each other or the entire atmosphere.

Umhun!! I know that feeling ISL. I find cooking, particularly baking very soothing as well.

Mulan we seem to share similar joy kindler except for one tiny tingy with the traveling bit. I love travelling by everything but water. You won't get me on any water in a donkey year. Water travelling is a kill joy for me lol

Kai, Val. You this woman you must be the one for moi I swear. Everything wey you talk is just the way I like it - I love travelling all the time but hate doing it on water (I get sea sick all the time) and I hate having to pack my luggage myself. Two, I need a woman who likes to bake and cook (cannot be bothered doing those things). Three, as per weddings methinkst too it is just the atmosphere not the couples for me - I get to them type of events a lot and when you know the history of some of the couples tieing the knot, you just want to cry and say why now, this na the tin wey dem dey call love??

However the one thing that would bring me the most joy is to find that perfect woman that would turn a blind eye when I smile "innocently" at another "innocent" babe. Nna na only smile now.

Positive People around me…., Am a very positive person and find It joyful when I meet anyone that Is close to me In self motivation. Talking to my Mother on phone Is Joy on It’s own, the one person that can never see limitation to achieving and having it all..

Making Money….. Am a diehard Capitalist and the thought of a good kill gives me joy.

Music Music Music……. Going through my Vinyl collection on Saturday morning while the music set Is blasting good old Teddy Pant&Grass Is Priceless……

Paying School fees for anonymous Students In Nigeria Is Joyful fulfilment, that has been my 10% tithe In the last 5 years.

Vacation……. Any hiking off the beaten path, although this days It’s more to do with reminisce ting of my hyper active days. Plateau State has some amazing hiking route. Summer In Las Vegas Is pure Joy!

Playing Ludo ( It must have the glass cover) with a chilled bottle of STAR Beer Is the best stress reliever In this world and pure joy!.

Being around loved ones
Playing footsie with Him......Or just teasing Him non-stop.
Lazing around in His shirt sleeves............
Fulfillment that i have helped someone achieve their dreams.....in my own little way
Teaching......i love imparting knowledge
Being with kids.......their vocabulary is always amusing.....their hearts are also pure......they can never keep a grudge
Watching movies..................
Music......though i'd rather go to an owambe so i can dance my heart out.....I love to dance
Clubbing......though the company has to be just right.
Completing a project and 'seeing my brain on paper' [the final report]

Amy, you read my mind. Na ditto for me too. Cooking also makes me happy, it's one of my favorite past time, most especially watching people savor the food I cook is always the icing on the cake.

Listening to worship songs especially the ones in my mother tongue Yoruba, nothing excites me more than learning many new names of God is my native tongue. In my kitchen, I play worship songs while I cook. I also play these songs while I clean.

Praising God also makes me happy. Talking about God makes me happy. Discovering new things in God's word makes me happy. Anything about the three in one..God, Yeshua, Holy Spirit makes me happy.

Cleaning also makes me happy, especially the House of God. Now that I am back from vacation, I will resume my cleaning duty asap.

Traveling also makes me happy, seeing the awesomeness of God's creation, the beautiful valleys, rivers and mountains. Kai, Nigerians that don't venture beyond Lagos state are missing out, so many beautiful views to behold in that nation. People, please explore.

Seeing a beautiful baby's smile especially the ones with dimples make me happy.
When I think of more, I'll add.

Not just babies with me Serious_Naijababe, the sight of happy carefree children generally having fun and laughing makes me happy too.

As Col Hannibal of the A-Team put it, 'I love it when a plan comes together'. - When a project, either at work or personal is succesfully completed, heck even something as simple as cleaning the home, the resulting feeling of freshness/neatness/tidyness pleases me greatly! (I know, this is so unlike a general of the great, gallant Nigerian army ).

I love sharing my faith with others, letting them know of the grace of God in Christ(Does that make me a religious fanatic in your eyes ? ).

I love wide open spaces, greenery, flowing water(rivers, streams etc).

I love a good read(Fiction, non-fiction, the scriptures etc).

ciao

My greatest source of joy is picking up the phone and calling my mother.

Even when mother admonishes me and tells me to grow up and be like my older brother it is music to my ears. I call her hoping to be admonished. Mother, the greatest source of joy for me.

In addition to some of the things that have been said already, I just love having a camera handy: To capture those rare moments.
You should see me when I get a perfect shot, you'd think I'd just won the Lottery.
I do not like posed photographs.
The best photos I have taken are of my kids in their most unguarded moments... Priceless!

Capturing the sunset (the deep orange type that spreads across the sky)... Priceless!

Watching home videos that I have recorded through the years...Priceless!

I'm afraid I'll die a very sad man. Have you been to Ijaw and Igboland lately?

I'll never be a happy man and nothing gonna bring JOY as long as my people are not free.
