Setting the mood of the day, P-Square’s ‘Do Me…’ is blasting away, a hard core pornographic film is playing on a flat screen T.V, a romantic film is showing on another, and men sit around, smoking, nursing their drinks and ogling at a bevy of naked girls.

Some of the girls who pretend to be wearing clothes are only in butt-tight G- string and little slinky bra, which exposes a greater part of their boobs. As though prodded by an unseen hand, the girls suddenly start yanking off their pants and bras, baring it all.
Seeming oblivious of the probing eyes, the girls stroll leisurely as though they are in the privacy of their bedrooms.

‘E get –as- you –dey- do –me; do- me -do -me…’
As the song hits this pitchy key, a busty, tall, pencil-thin girl ambles to a platform beside a bar, climbs a silvery pole in the middle of it, slithers down it like a cobra and still clinging to it, she turns to the men with leery, come- on sign on her face.

Welcome to OCEAN BLUE, the club that claims to parade “the most beautiful ladies on the planet” and “exotic dancers”. The Lagos joint that “never sleeps” should also add on its flyer that the club is the nest of erotic dancers.
Perhaps cued by the cautionary angst of the song:
“You- go -wound –o; you -go wound; o,- my -baby…, some of the naked girls leap on the laps of the waiting men, dance and squirm delightfully.

    Riot of feelings
Teased tenderly, the men -10- swamped by 17 girls of varied shapes and sizes respond in different ways. Some become palid, remote and fight the feeling internally. There are those who latch onto the vamp, naked girls on their laps. They either grab them on the waist, dance pelvis-to-pelvis with them, or freeze in a long embrace – offer a quick kiss, suck the girls’ pubescent breasts and revel in the moment. Some wallow in outright denial or shock by continuing to sip their drinks, puffing cigarettes, avoiding the girls’ coos, and eye contacts, while still managing to maintain a gentlemanly conversation with the man next to them.

    Pay-as-you…
To retain the girl performing for them, the patrons of the club dip into their pockets and dole out money. They mischievously stuff the money in between the thighs of the girls or in their cleavages. The girls frown at small naira notes. And the men know it! Acceptable denominations are N1, 000 and N500. As the club lingo puts it, the money is to “encourage the girl to perform well.”

    Anything goes
If a patron is pleased by a girl’s performance, he rewards her with a drink or more “naira rain.” The club liberally allows all manners of flirtations and suggestive sexual gestures except outright coitus. Asked, one of the managers of the place told Sunday Sun: “It would be too much for some people to handle. That’s why we don’t allow it. Ah, it would be a big orgy,” the manager said, amused by the thought of it.
But a patron and any girl who catches his fancy can pair off “somewhere” and “have fun” to their hearts’ content. Pressed to know where to go, one of the girls feigned irritation and said, “Ode (Yoruba for dim wit), don’t you know there are chalets around for short time? If you like a girl, take her out and pay.”

Placated with a tot of Johnny Walker on rocks, the girl simmered down, became friendly and gave her name as Jane. (May not be her real name as the girls go by many aliases). Let’s stick to Jane. According to her, girls in the club can be taken out after a special arrangement. The “arrangement”, Sunday Sun learnt, is all about money. Being the girl’s official or business hour, any man desirous of the opposite sex, pays the club N5, 000 and the girl pockets N10, 000. The fee must be paid in cash before the outing. A note tag on the club’s wall says it all: “Please pay as you are served.”

    Tissue paper
The goings-on here seem to spew a lot of bodily secretions. The evidence abounds in the club’s two unisex toilets. Every now and again, patrons who are perhaps aroused to bursting point, waddle floppily to the toilets, linger there for a while and come out looking satisfied. The plastic baskets in the toilets fill up fast. A male cleaner readily empties the baskets, mops the toilets and deodorizes them with air fresher.

    The joint
Ocean Blue, the club that claims to be the only exclusive gentlemen’s club in Lagos, is tucked in the courtyard of Olajuwon House, at 15 /17 Opebi Road, Ikeja, Lagos.
The joint begins to flourish from midday. Its major clientele are executives of banks and companies around the city. During lunch hour, people come here for a “quickie” or just drinks. The gate fee is N1, 000 per person and N2,000 for a couple. The place boasts of an array of drinks. A big Guinness stout goes for N900; small one costs N500, and a bottle of mineral sales for N300. A tot of brandy or whiskey is N500.

    Adults only
One of the managers of the club who declined to give his name says the club is playing an important role in the life of its patrons. “These men are busy people. So, the club helps them to relax. As you can see, there’re no kids here. What we give is purely adult entertainment,” he said, looking contented.

    New kid on the block
To compete and be part of the seeming lucrative business, another club promising the same offerings as Ocean Blue opened its gate last Wednesday evening. The new arrival, The Mazino Nite club promises “the most sexy presentation- one party and you are hooked”. Located at No 12, Aromire Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos, the joint is billed to roll from 7 pm till cock-crow. Its manager, Ike, says his club is out to outshine others. “We’re new, but we’re going to be on top,” he said.

    The girls
The girls take the business very seriously. Jane at Ocean Blue claims to be an undergraduate. “We’re not prostitutes. I come her to work after lectures. I’m not a whore. We’re dancers and entertainers,” she said, trying feebly to defend her honour and that of her sisters in the commercial sex trade.

I wont be wrong in assuming you're Yoruba just from that statement.

Anyway, just so you dont go and make that mistake outside abeg, Nigeria has as more than 250 ethnic groups.
The largest ethnic groups are the Yoruba, Fulani, Hausa, Igbo, accounting for 68% of population, while the Edo, Ijaw (10%), Kanuri, Ibibio, Nupe, Efik and Tiv comprise 27%; other minorities make up the remaining 7 percent.

    You can thank me later

Charles, what about the minorities? You have them all over the country. They don't belong to the 3 major groups (Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo).
