    Default So nearly Goldesia

Nigeria was nearly called Goldesia, after George Goldie whose 'Royal Niger Company' effectively built the framework for the colonial-era state. (similar to Cecil Rhodes building of Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe).

    WEST AFRICA AND COLONIALISATION

    The author concludes:
    = = =
The ultimate fate of Nigeria is unclear. As in many areas of the world that have been shaped - and brutally so - to serve the interests of foreign powers rather than the indigenous populations, the solution may lie in precisely what has been destroyed: the traditional relationships that were defined by the area's unique religious and cultural beliefs. One hopes the people of Nigeria will be able to merge the best of the Western civilization with a renaissance of African traditions.
    * * *

Note that the institution of chiefs has been thoroughly debased. Chieftaincy has been the basis of indirect rule since colonial times. Now chieftaincy must be seen as oppressive, corrupting and damaging to the interests of the people. Many chiefs are the social equivalent of the religious 'preachers' and the political 'ogas': parasites who feed off our traditional goodwill to elders and respect (even, worship) of ancestors.

Note the phrase " Ensuring British economic interests meant establishing political control " and remember that nearly all the policies of most African govts and non-govt organisations emphasise foreign investments or foreign aid (economic interests).

It may not be possible or desirable to have a renaissance of African traditions. There is much for us to learn from the past and the present. Let us build a future that improves our lives and prevents the cruel lessons of our history. That future will emphasise a culture based on widespread literacy, economic sufficiency, and military strength.

We can start by working to remove traitor govts and to dissolve the colonial-era states that shackle us in eternal bondage.

    Default Fallacy

The major fallacy in this article is the idea of a "black africa"
This construct is used to delink Africans from, say, Egypt or Carthage - even though the inhabitants would very well have been called black.

It is also used to reinforce the invasion of South Africa, Zimbabwe etc - if there is a Black Africa, there must be a white one, hence legitimacy. The idea of a Black Africa legitimizes invasion, of both Europeans and Arabs, suggesting that these populations have their "homes" on the continent, when in fact they dont.

Africa is BLACK, period. Of course this is social blackness. To speak of a special corner of Africa are being black, as opposed to the rest is risible. We only do so when we want to legitimize the Arab and European invaders and interlopers.

Black Africa: The same false premises are assumed with the term 'sub-sahara' Africa.

Recently a Nigerian - born and bred - by name "dotun adebayo" referred to himself as an 'afro-saxon'. Abeg wetin be afro-saxon?:-\

Sorry matey, Dotun Adebayo was/is a British raised, hence he's a Black-Brit of Naija origins. Thofuh Naija born, he was brought here at age seven or so, is now in his late thirties or early forties, and does not really subscribe to the Nigerian socio-reality or theYoruba culture. Let him call himself whatever he wants, its no skin of our noses! :lol

This is trivial, but I dont understand why people, who dont speak the language, dont have the worldview, dont know the cultural philosophy continue "Afroizing" themselves.

So then, whats the point of being African or whatever you call yourself, if you are simply a clone of Europe?

Just call yourself Factory Damaged European (FDE) and be done with it!

Afro this and Afro that. Where is the reflection in day to day living?

What about Les Nubianes ? The French Jazz duo. They referred to themselves in an interview as Afropean ie Afro-European. :rollin
In all fairness, their dad was a white Frenchman, whereas their mum was west African (I don't recall which country). Needless to say, they are sisters.

    ciao
