By Emmanuel Franklyne Ogbunwezeh ___________________ Abandon all hope ye who enter here! The excerpt above was the counsel of Dante Alighieri, to anyone whose unfortunate destiny ends in hell. Over and above being an exhortation, it is an affirmation of the infinite finality of this supreme inconvenience. This is a classic because it can never be an anachronism. Its validity transcends the narrow and insular confines of homiletics, religion and literature to illumine the world of reason with its vehemence and insistent legitimacy. Its message is kosher for all times. Hell is the supreme recompense for injustice. It is th...Read the full article.

You may be right........... I never thought of it that way but after reading your article, I am bound to believe that Nigeria is the flip side of countries like USA (Heaven on earth). But as long as the Nigerian masses continue to rely on false hope, there is no solution in sight. We are doomed, every man for himself.

It is the residence of eternal hopelessness. In its core reigns a culture of absolute negativity, which mangles every aspiration to decency. Hell smothers every light of positivity. It is the black-hole of supreme regress, out of which no light of redemption ever escapes. Admittance into its rotten bowels introduces one into a culture of solipsistic self-digestion, where every inmate worships his ego. In its halls, avarice is king. And in its hallowed chambers, everyone is on a journey of eternal self-digestion, where his hatreds resurrect to consume his experiences. The most potent aspect of this is that hell is the creation of our choices.

Nigeria needs to be condemned by the whole world for the choices it made knowingly and unknowingly. It is a show of shame to continue to tolerate this monumental beast, which is trying to eradicate some of the most beautiful tribes in Africa.

Igbo, Yoruba, and Hausa/Fulani are better off with their own country. There is a reason why GOD decided to give each of us different tongue, and look at the mess we are making out of our disunity.

A COUNTRY NO ONE LOVES!

If Nigerians really love Nigeria, there is no evidence of love for it.
There is evidence of pride, but nothing else.
There is evidence of life, but not lively.
There is evidence of surviving, but not living.
There are all kinds of movement, but mostly struggling.

It sure resembles hell, but those who do not know better will ever have an inkling what heaven feels like anyways.

Education is the key - I don't mean school type education.

Woe is he that condemned millions of innocents people, just because of the sins of the few... Nigeria rulers (i mean leaders) has failed Nigeria, that is no reason to compare it with hell, the good people of Nigeria are still striving to make the best of a worst circumstances, and they will continue, until they cannot bear it any more... We have to stop this continuous bashing of everything Nigeria (blame the rulers or the vagabonds in power), this is our only country as of this moment... no matter your citizenship abroad you will always have link with Nigeria.

GOD BLESS NIGERIA AND AFRICA.

Give credit to the author of this article, and people like him with the courage to post his picture beside it - Let it be bestowed appropriately.

Nigeria is bleeding from multiple stab wounds in every part of its body - Religion wounds, tribal wounds, northern wounds, southern wounds, east & west wounds, political wounds, leadership wounds, and illiteracy.
Nigeria is also suffering from all types of cancers - corruption, stealing, forgery, embezzlements, quackery, idiocy, illegitimacy police, and military.
Nigeria has a stinking problem of capital freight, and brain drain - drowning with exploding population, unemployment, lack of opportunity, high rate of crime.
++++++++++
Nigeria should be lamented and then buried for what it is - "DEAD".
But?
Nigeria is waiting for a last blow in the temple - PDP or Revolution.
If you recall 50 years ago!
Nigeria had a Northern & Southern protectorate!
Civil War - that has not ended yet in the minds of many millions.
Military coupe on top of military coupe
1999, & 2007
Demagoguery, Tyrant, and Hypocrisy.

TOO MUCH TO OVERCOME - FROM MY POINT OF VIEW!

Mr Writer, you are not exposed and probably don't live in Nigeria. One of those arrogant Nigerians in diaspora. Work out your own heaven or hell on earth regardless of where you are.

A lot of people in USA are leaving in hell on earth while some are leaving in heaven on earth. Same in Nigeria!

This is a brilliant article and direct on point. I am with the writer 100%. I am not sure what the writer has done wrong in the article that is getting some people all worked up and insulting him. If any of his conclusions are factually wrong, then that point should be raised. Attacking the messanger and ignoring the message is one of the reasons why Nigeria and Nigerians are on their knees today and that will likely remain so until we are able to separate the message from the messanger.

I really do not like taking issues with any one's comments but I do not know what point there is to be served by those who attack Nigerians in Diaspora and imply they are not smart. Living outside Nigeria has never been a crime in Nigeria. This struggle is for all Nigerians and this type of Diaspora and non-Diaspora Nigerians dichotomy is artificial and and therefore a luxury that the struggle to free Nigeria cannot afford. But for being an avid supporter of free speech, these are the type of comments that I believe over congest and overheat the political environment and should be removed, if not for any other reason but for the protection of innocent consumers of political commentary.

Unlike many of us "funny name revolutionaries" who find comfort and security by hiding behind usernames while verbally claiming to be the leader of one type of revolution or another, this writer had the boldness and honour of showing his name and face, hiding behind no literary obfuscation that is conceived and intended to confuse the masses of the Nigerian nation, and by so doing the writer may have earned himself a place in the SSS's growing list of wanted Internet bloggers and commentators. In an era where so called revolutionaries do not even have the guts to participate in simple demonstrations outside the shores of Nigeria, in environments devoid of police brutality, violence, imprisonment, torture and even death, out of fear of being added to the SSS's notorious list of wanted Internet bloggers and commentators or losing favors from their friends and associates in government, this writer deserve's the praise of every holistically grounded consumer of political commentary. He layed bare the fraudulent contraption called governance in Nigeria. Based on a very sound theory of compensation for our lives efforts, these scoundrels were awarded their just awards - a place in the hottest part of Hell.

Sometime when I read some reactions to otherwise academically and factually sound articles, I remember one of Transparency International's watchwords: corruption is often hidden by those who benefit from it. For everyone of us we must re-examine our positions vis-a-vis Nigeria. We should ask ourselves whether we are taking our current position because our friends and or family members are benefiting from the on going corruption or because we hope to get our "breakthrogh" soon. In making our decision we should bear in mind that service to the people is the ultimate responsibility of every one of us. We should ask ourselves whether we are not capable of serving Nigeria in better capacities if only we just take personal gains away from the reasoning.

For all those who look forward to their participation or are already experienced in the brutal rape of Nigerians and their resources, to this group I dare predict that history will be very unkind to you. Justice will ensure that your desires are twarted by the collective aspirations of a people that you are out to destroy. Your reward will be a V.I.P. seat in the hottest part of hell.

Thanks for a wonderful piece. You have captured the true essence of the Nigerian debacle in this article. But expect to find trolls coming here to vent their anger on you. Like aneyetonto above, you could see the hollowness in the thinking of the average Nigerian. We are talking of the 6th largest exporter of oil that cant provide electricity for her citizens and he/she talking of war torn countries like Somalia, Gaza Strip and Sudan. He is certainly one of those blind members who frequent the church on Sundays. He is saying to have hope and be a positive thinker, but who would convince him that hope is such a terrible thing? These are people who board luxurious buses and start singing gospel songs with the hope of escaping armed robbers.

Just today a Nigerian lady friend visited us at home and narrated what happened between her and a white guy. She told the guy she is from Benin. Then they planned traveling to Africa to see her people. This white guy bought tickets for Cotonou in Benin Republic. When the lady informed him that the Benin is in Nigeria, he told her he would never travel to that place and that was the end of it.

There are too many terrible things wrong with Nigeria but our top journalists are rather interested in Abuja plots of land. Where else in the world would police de-congest their cells by summary execution of inmates who have no people to bail them? No matter the pretensions people make, Nigeria is a living nightmare.

Thank you Franklyn for this timely article and all that it contains. You have my respect for laying it out the way it is and I must also add that many of my friends have been asking this question lately about the fact that Nigeria may be the headquarters of hell and all the evil societies that help populate hell. Time will prove how right this assertion is when all is said and done. Nigeria is too evil not to be the devils main office and it will take something greater than the demon-leaders that have being ruling (ruining) the land to destroy and cleanse the place for the good of its inhabitants.

The fate of Nigeria needs to be decided by those that live in the land but such decisions have always been hijacked by the entrenched cabal who are determined to keep things the way it is since it serves their purpose well that way. This criminal group of persons are very bloody and do not care how much people suffer as a result of their actions. They are the same group of people that stood up to cancel the only free and fair election of June 12, 1993 and this same group killed MKO in prison and then installed 'the animal called Obasanjo as president of Nigeria. The story of Nigeria is an ill-fated one and the heavens are weeping for the sufferers of the land and very soon, it will all be over for Nigeria.

Have you taken a look lately on the stinking leader of Nigeria? Do you notice that Yaradua is actually rotten away while occupying the presidency of Nigeria? Any wonder then that things are not just standing still but actually taken a dive back to the stone age?

Nigeria remains a shame to Africa and its people and the earlier its people rise up to destroy all the criminal gangs holding it hostage, the better. A country where some of its citizens or a section of its territory are held down to advance the interest of other sections, will never know progress and that is where Nigeria is right now. While you are holding someone down while wrestling, you are also holding yourself down. Nigeria's progress is stalled due to the conspiracy of its leaders with another vile nation that has been influencing its leadership over the years. That nation is Britain and she also must suffer great consequences along with the criminals that have been destroying Nigeria over the years.

There is hope for rescue and that hope lies with the ordinary people of the land who must rise up and kill all the thieves who are openly living large among them and they can be found in the East, West, North and South of the cursed country. All the political class must be 'cleaned up' if the people are to know any peace and until this is done, there will never be any peace in Nigeria or for Nigerians.

Great work and a very bold reflection on our present state called Nigeria. Reading some responses supra, it is obvious as Nigerians are wont to believe that when issues arise, you remain positive. That my friends are all good and dandy as long as there are appropriate reflective corrective actions in place. In the case of Nigeria, no such pasture is its present and that leaves the state in a downward spiral.

Truth be told, all of the issues addressed in this article are current Nigerian issue and are not exaggerations. It is about time we start telling ourselves the truth.

What kind of a country makes it a norm that all of its elites seek medical treatments overseas. When Yaradua goes to Germany for treatment, how are Nigeria's state intelligence preserved?

What happened to all of the Senate panels of investigations, where are the findings, what of the money spent on Power generation during the Obsanjo regime? You see my friends, without accountability, there will not be deterrent and without that mistakes must repeat.

The fundamental truth is that our leaders see self before state. The problem is that they have neglected that individual before state will self preserve at some point. When you look at history, individuals always have a way to collectively realign itself. The question will be how Nigeria will realign itself. Will it be done through a silent democratic revolution as was the American Obama case or will it be another bloody revolution as we have seen in history usually attendant to groups that feel that they have lost its voice.

If Nigeria is no Hell - what is?

Dear Emmanuel,
I enjoyed your article, it's got depth. However, it is another relay of everything negative about a country we all love to hate. While it may seem hopeless, I'm afraid this regurgitation and recycling of negativity does aboslutely nothing to help Nigeria.

I have lived between the US and Canada now for about 10 years and sometimes it feels like hell (my friends in Europe have not compared it to heaven either!). At the end of the day, nobody can love us more than we are willing to love ourselves. I definitely understand that articles like this, like tough love for a bad child, are driven deep down by love for a country that did not turn out the way we all want but this self-hate is only hurting us. The reason we all come to this village everyday, guess what, is because of that unique identity that bound us together, being Nigerians. I know this bride is not looking beautiful right now, but we got to find a way to love her!
