Default Nigeria’s Real Witches And Wizards

Nigeria’s real witches and wizards By Okey Ndibe Most Nigerian politicians deserve the tag of vicious “witches” and “wizards.” Their specialty, these politicians, is to fatten themselves by creating collective misery for other Nigerians. Obsessed with cornering more and more of the nation’s resources for themselves, they hardly have time to raise their heads from the trough long enough to notice the millions of fellow citizens who have become hideously emaciated as a result of prolonged hunger. Truth be told, most Nigerian politicians are unconscionable sadists who gleefully live off the blood of dispossessed citizens, the men and women who at night drop to their mats in air-filled stomachs and awake dizzy from famishment. Yet these pauperized hordes must drag themselves out of the shacks and hovels that serve as their homes and report to work as drivers, bus conductors, cleaners, civil servants, teachers, even doctor...Read the full article.

An apex court that rewards stealers of office is sending a message that rigging is right. Oh, the Jos-grade carnage that such a message would trigger all over the nation during the next round of elections. The justices can’t afford to make themselves candidates for inclusion in Nigeria’s gallery of sinister witches and wizards.
will they have the spine to do it ? I am not sure of anyone who is sure of this.

My dear ON,

How I wish the justices of the supreme would do the right thing by declaring the 's'election the sham it was and by extension UMYA the pretender that he is. But then, this is only a wish.

What one gets to realise in contemporary Nigeria (having lived here all my life) is that the judgment would be hidden under legalese and at the end of the day, anything but justice would be served. The reason for this is that the judges are also members of the fraternity of real witches and wizards that own Nigeria. We, the people had over the years abdicated ownership and since nature abhors a vaccum, these scoundrels from the pits of hell have taken title.

Only when we collectively begin to fight for what is ours would we win our country back. Otherwise, it Somalia I'm afraid.....................

Default Witches And Wizards of Justice

All,

It looks like the Judiciary is going to be the last hope for the Nigerian collective.

There are so many interesting cases out there that anyone with common sense can predict the rightful outcome. I didn't even know that UMYA's election was still in (legal) contention. Wow!!!!

1. The Presidential Election.

2. The Arogundade case and the other 3 cases of violence by the Navy against civilians.

3. The Akwa-Ibom Churches child murder cases.

I believe there are some others of a non-judicial nature like the British Airways protest.

We should all be patient, the outcomes of these cases and the reactions of the victims whose rights were violated should tell us all we need to know about Nigeria and what future we have chosen for ourselves.

There's really no need for too much turenchi. Let's wait and see.

Obugi.

I have said this to friends and now I truly believe this. Even if all the money in the world is poured into Nigeria, events like these will still happen in that country, nothing will change. Because what hails Nigerians is our mentality. Everything is connected.

It starts with believing we are actually self worthy because we are Nigerians.
It starts with us embracing and knowing the worth of our culture instead of trying to be American.
It starts with us understanding that black is beautiful instead of us bleaching our skins.
It starts with us understanding our history and knowing where we came from. Because when you understand what our forefathers fought for, you will not give it away that easily

Everything is connected. Because when people understand that they are worthy, then they don't settle for mediocrity. They demand respect and value the life of their fellow Nigerians. They understand who the enemy is. They challenge authority to be better.

I would analized with you folks, it would have been intellectual. However, I lost my big brother in this senseless carnage. At this time my intellect betrays me. Some persons for no good reason marched to his house and massercered him, though he had nothing to do with the politics. He was 57 years old, and left behind two young sons; 15 and 13 years old, in fact the children pulled his corpse away, so it could be retreived for a humane burial. Their emotional state is your best guess. He was a jolly fellow, as a teenager he played rugby and drew a lot. He had an instinct for the arts. Had our parents being more enlightened, he may have become a name, for he had a way with colours.

My big sister said to me on phone; do not cry, that is his destiny! A destiny indeed. Some destiny, I try not to curse, of what value would that be? As they bury him on thursday, my heart will be with them.

May your soul rest in peace: Maxwell Oladehinde Morris.

Thanks indeed to this contributor.

Its been long I read any article that is detached and dispassionate, yet capturing the deep thoughts on the subject matter as the Jos and indeed the Nigerian quagmire as this.

May the Almighty Allah reward you (the author) with higher wisdom and grant protection to your entire generation, from now to eternity.

Ameen.

For those dead (Martyrs of all political inclination, tribe and religion) and for those of us who are most likely to pass-on in similar circumstances, may it be quick and painless. What is certain about life in Nigeria is not life, but death by sudden and grave unwarranted violence.

May Allah fulfill His mercies and benevolence on the Peacemakers. Ameen.

.......for over 10 months, I made a decision about Nigeria;......... "SIDDON LOOK"!!..but now I must say, "I am genuinely afraid for my Country!
The reasons are not far fetched. In the last few weeks, there have been various threads on the NVS alluding in several themes on the possibility of a "Revolution".

If one looks critically at the events in Jos, at the manner of the randomness, and obvious senseless killings and wanton destruction of property, I'm afraid, one can only come to one conclusion, and that is that the time of reckoning is fast approaching.
The average man has had enough and is prepared to show it, "no matter whose ox is gored"..in the process!!

Nigeria got Independence too soon; In almost 50 years since the British left us on our own, we have shown not just to ourselves, but to the whole world how totally unprepared we are "to behave properly and do the right thing!"

A word is enough for the wise.

My Compatriot. I never want to divert from discussing the serious issue of happenings in Nigeria and the grim future it purtends. So, I will like to join in the discussion on the opinion that 'Nigerian Independence should have been later'.

What would you say of Zimbabwe and recent happenings in South Africa? What is absent? What is it with us Humans?

We must divert from emotionalizing on the issue of violence in Nigeria. The problems there are, I will commit myself again by asserting that they are not religious. It is just out of hopelessness that our poor citizens are fluctuating into corrupt versions of it. Be it violent expressions by Muslim adherants or Voodoonic rituals by pretenders to the Christian faith.

Like good footballers - Nigerians that we are, on the problem - 'We have to keep our eyes on the ball'. Lets focus on the subject matter. The problem is absence of government (good or bad one), rabid poverty, crusted illetracy, disease and general hopelessness.

Good job ON. I love the analogy of the barbarism going on in Akwa-Ibom to show who the real witches and wizards are.

Nigeria politicians are not just witches and wizards they are something more deadly - they are ogbanjes/abiku. They combined the witchcraft powers of witches and wizards with the power of re-incarnation.

These bas tards keep coming back and keep recycling themselves and their evil agenda in a perpetual line of succession.

Oh my God! you are right ON, what Nigeria need is an exorcist.

Fancy this. Is this insensitivity or just Government for Governance sake?

From Yusuf Alli, Onyedi Ojiabor, Vincent Ikuomola, Gbenga Omokhunu (Abuja), Pam Ayuba (Jos), Tony Akowe (Kaduna), Adimike George (Onitsha), Suleiman Dangana (Kano) and Joke Kujenya

There were indications yesterday that President Umaru Yar’Adua had stopped plans by Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang to swear in winners of the controversial local government elections in the state.
A government source said the President was unhappy with the governor’s plans since Jos, the state capital, is yet to recover from riots over the election.

Normalcy is just returning Jos, with soldiers patrolling the streets following the riots in which hundreds of people were killed and thousands rendered homeless.
The source said the President, on learning of the planned inauguration of the councils, stopped it to avert a resurgence of violence.
“On learning that the governor was planning to inaugurate the new councils today (yesterday), the President phoned him on Sunday evening to express his displeasure at such a move which could inflame further passion and told the governor to shelve the idea,” the source explained.
But the Plateau State government last night denied receiving any directive from the Presidency stopping the swearing-in of the new councils. Commissioner for Information Nuhu Gagara told The Nation that Governor Jang did not inaugurate the councils owing to the “prevailing security situation.”
According to Gagara, the councils will be inaugurated “as soon as the curfew in Jos is lifted.”

Thank you Okey. The Nigerian state has been hijacked and Zaireanized by people who think they were ordained to own it. The tragedy is that an event with such massive human carnage may eventually fade into the mist. The nation's psyche is so calloused...

I wouldn't mind if these witches were exorcised brutally...

Thanks ON,

UMYA has asked Jang not to swear in the elected representatives of Jos North LGA. I do not know the reasons for that seeing that if it was as a result of rigged elections, he is the wrong man to cast the first stone. I do not know why Jos is always singled out as a barometer for political violence in Nigeria. Truth is that Jos is a Christian state and there has been attempts by some envious tribes to take the good and arable lands of this peace loving but warrior clan. This matter has to be addressed constitutionally, wholistically and not through back door politics, trickery and mischief.

Bros Tall,

Accept my sympathies on the loss of your brother. The cruelty & barbarism by Nigerian bigots is only rivaled to that of the butchers in Rwanda & Congo. The Mumbai terrorist killed less than half of the number lost in Jos & the property damage was far less. What a cruel way for your nephews to witness the death of their father.

The PDP hijackers are evil and they are trully the real "wicthes and wizards" of Nigeria causing untold hardship and misery to majority of Nigerians. Graduates with no jobs or hope of any employment; no food, water, roads or even decent hospitals and health care services, with the president and Governors rushing abroad to even minor ailments while leaving hospitals to rot all over the country.

But the worst disaster is that the PDP would not allow for a free election to hold anywhere in Nigeria. What they do now is impose PDP candidates as councillors, local government chairmen and State assembly and Governors and damn the electorates! People don't vote anymore on election dates but votes are awarded by INEC and State Electoral commissioners to PDP chosen candidate. This is the cause of the Jos mayhem and likely going to cause a major national crisis in the next election of the PDP remain determined to steal elections when they are so unpopular as the people have seen through them.

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. If over 400 people could lose their lives because of a local government election, now begin to imagine what will happen in 2011, because Yar'Adua will not only want to be re-elected, but his (mis)ruling party, as usual, will also mandate all (s)elected representathieves in Abuja, together with their state governors, to 'go and deliver their constituencies'. And since the 'witches and wizards' have the support of the police and the electoral officials, they will attempt to 'sweep' (pronounced 'steal') the polls at all costs. The opposition parties will most certainly rise to defend their mandate à la Jos opposition party, then all hell will be let lose all over again.
