This author is merely restating what Nigerians knew all along, that Mrs. Waziri in cahoot with the rogue National Assembly are out to protect powerful people who are calling the shots. What good can come out of a former Nigerian police officer? I have personally taken the first step of giving up Nigeria by cutting down on reading news from that country. What we have on the ground now is a perfect example of rule by the clan. And the most annoying thing is that these criminals in power are not making any pretense about their deviousness. They tell us right in our face that there is nothing we can do.

With all the noise being made about anti corruption Ibori is still overseeing the affairs of state. He even wants to transfer his case out of Kaduna to his backyard. The governors are strategizing on how to loot more. With all Rotimi's energy in fighting the "militants" he is busy stealing money behind the scene. In Nigeria everything has taken on a new meaning. When crooks are granted bail, it is another term for acquittal. Chukwumerije is going to Indonesia to address the plight of Nigerians on death row. Let him be reminded that Indonesia plays by the rule. Those convicts knew about the death sentence before they ventured into the drug business.

Sum total.

You have to give it to these writers for the audacity and non-stop strength in churning these same stories/commentaries week-in week out. ....

And yeah, the in-your-face stealing now is just beyound atrocious... O sun mi.

It appears since the Gani Fawenhimis of our generation are now involuntarily retired, the Kutis of our lives wiped out, the Wole Soyinka' n the rest of them, numbed out, we are all primed for a rocky-dodgy-ride-to-the-rocks...

O ma se o.

Ladies and Gentlemen, fellow country people, what do we do? Do we sit here at our various computer desks pressing keyboards and just hope for the best?

Country people, we need people like you to match down the streets of Aso Rock with placards peacefully demanding for our country back from the grip of thugs and muggers in agbada. Do not wait for tomorrow as it may be too late.

How delighted I am to see one, two, three..............twenty hands up. I need more. What about you, you and you are you volunteering?

A public official resign in Nigeria? That would be the day!
FW was planted there by Ibori, Saraki et al. Until the tree bears fruits and cannot bring forth more, no farmer will uproot it. So FW must bear fruit for these rogues to enjoy before she can be her own (wo)man and by that time the damage is done. Well one day we will come out of the woods.

Thank you to the author for reminding us all about our civic duties to stand up and be counted. Now what do we do? First, the EFCC has a contact us page where one could send emails to the Commission. We could all [and get others to] send emails to the EFCC to deliver the report within the next, say, 14 days. Second, we write a 'letter before action' (called Pre-Action Protocol letter in the UK) and send it straight to the Chairman of the EFCC, demanding the statutory report be presented forthwith. A copy of the letter will be sent to the Speaker of the House of Representatives [in whom I am personally disappointed for lack of pro-activity, seeing that he belongs to our generation] and the leader of the Senate [in whom I do not expect much for obvious reasons; he's not a democrat and will never be one!). We could take a full-spread advert in one of the dailies. Third, as an alternative to the first two suggestions, we could instruct a firm of Legal Practitioners in Nigeria to commence action at the Federal High Court Abuja for an Order of Mandamus to compel the EFCC to deliver the aforementioned statutory report to the National Assembly, as stipulated by law. Seyi Olu Awofeso, if you are reading this, are you in a position to help please? If so, could you let us know how much the most effective strategy will cost? As the proponent, I will lead the donation train.

The author has done more than his fair share, Villagers who are in a position to actualise some proactive action should please respond with better ideas and generally the best way forward. We need to act as quickly as possible to compel the EFCC to deliver the statutory report.

PS
Reproduced below is a copy of the email that I have sent to the EFCC Chairman. The email address I sent email to is: info@efccnigeria.org. If anyone knows her official email address, please use it and cc the info email address too.

Chief Mrs. Farida Mzamber Waziri (AIG rtd.)
Executive Chairman
The Economic & Financial Crimes Commission
No5 Fomella Street, Off Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent
Wuse II Abuja.
Nigeria

Dear Mrs Waziri,

ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL CRIMES COMMISSION (ESTABLISHMENT) ACT 2004

As a concerned citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I write pursuant to section 37 of the EFCC (Establishment) Act 2004 (the EFCC Act) which mandates you to deliver a report to the National Assembly no later than 30th September in each year.

I note with concern that the statutory report required of you is yet to be delivered to the National Assembly as required by law. In furtherance of my civic duties as a citizen of Nigeria therefore, I now invite you to submit the annual report detailing the activities of the EFCC in the preceding year and as required by law without further delay.

With respect, I believe the delivery of your report is not discretionary but mandatory and it is a matter of regret that the EFCC Act may have been breached by your non-compliance with the provisions relation to delivery of annual reports. Finally, I should like to state that, as a lawyer and officer of the court, you have additional professional responsibility to ensure compliance with all extant laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

I, and the whole nation, look forward to hearing from you in due course.

Yours sincerely

Abdul-Aziz B Jimoh

But where are those people who are quick to label critics of the present Nigerian set up prophets of doom? What are they proposing to do to remedy the situation? Sanitizing Nigeria means a complete dismantling of the system, anything short of that is postponing the evil day. As a first step, people must form resistant groups who would make sure no public official is free to enjoy his or her loot. Dont also forget that volunteering means being ready to pay the supreme price.

12th October, 2008

The Chairman
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
Abuja

Dear Madam,

ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL CRIMES COMMISSION (ESTABLISHMENT) ACT 2004
ANNUAL REPORT

Kindly refer to section 37 of the EFCC (Establishment) Act 2004 (the EFCC Act) which mandates you to deliver a report to the National Assembly no later than 30th September in each year.

In light of the pervasive corruption and its detrimental effect on ALL aspects of national life in Nigeria, I, a concerned Nigerian citizen, in line with the above mentioned EFCC establishment act, wish to exercise my right to be made privy to the activities carried out by the commission which you head, in the line of your fight against corruption.

I understand that you have been busy apprehending some corrupt officials and commend you, if this is true. I hope that, as a means of signifying the transparency with which your commission operates, you will find it fit to release the required annual report. This will encourage both your staff and other Nigerians to have faith in what is going on at EFCC, so that they can continue to make required reports that would engender further investigations and convictions against corruption.

Have a great day, Ma.

And i think paying the supreme price is what most Nigerians are scared of. You know, it is more easier to go along with a system (even if you are not comfortable with it) than to change that it. We too dey fear for Nigeria.

Hi all,

The EFCC has now provided a rejoinder through its spokesman, Femi Babafemi, for which you can see the link below to Saharareporters

http://www.saharareporters.com/columnefccrej.php

My reading of Mr Babafemi's riposte is that the report sought, in respect of the activities for the year 2007, termed 2008 report by Mr Olumhense, has been provided to the National Assembly. Perhaps Mr Babafemi will go a step further and post a copy of that report on the EFCC's website or provide a link to where the same may be downloaded. We trust that there is no issue of 'State Security' or 'threat to national stability' preventing the public from seeing the report.

Nigerians will not cease to amaze me,Mr Babafemi read and ignored the first article by the author about this EFCC Report for reasons best known to him and now he is screaming blue murder because this 2nd article may likely cause an uproar.Nonsense.

Since the removal of Ribadu as EFCC chairman and his subsequent demotion from AIG to DCP of the Nigerian Police force, his successor on the seat of the EFCC has known no peace from a large section of nigerian populace. It will be wrong to dismiss the laudable achievements of Ribadu but it has now become very clear that he acted the script of OBJ who used him to intimidate political opponents of the third term agenda and his daughter Iyabor.
Ribadu turned his face elsewhere when there was a damning report from one of his investgators against Bode George. He publicly declared that OBJ was not corrupt only Atiku was as president and vice-president respectively. The various probe panels set up by the House of Rep. have proved the contrary.
Nigerians should allow the current chairperson of the EFCC do her job in peace:She once told the press that she was first contacted to take the job when the commission was about to take off but was denied the job because she chose not to lobby.

T.

some of our peoples thinking's'/excuses just amaze one.

So the writer is not letting her do her job in peace by asking her to her job - any job at all ? Damn !

Ok we don hear, mr.Ribadu was obj's boy and that is not exactly breaking the law... We can at least count 1-2-3 things he did, that didnt break any law.

Now, its unpeaceful to ask mrs. Waz to do just one thing that should normally be the easiest of her responsibilities ?

ha. Rosmay needs to see the light....

The reason you are punching at shadows here is because no lawyer has yet sued for an Order of Mandamus mandating Waziri to perform her statutory duty, according to Law. WOULD SOMEONE IN NIGERIA PLEASE SUE? (Let's hear their lame excuses in court).

If she was sued, all dis turenci will be directed at conforming to the law and not some PR rubbish.

Where is anaconda of the Rule of Law Memos to the President.

Rosemay,

It is very intesting to hear it from your own mouth that Ribadu did laudable job.
The question you may want to ask yourself is that; why was he put out of place? Was he not put out of place by unseen corrupt clique and friends/clients of Farida?YES!
That Ribadu acted out Obj's script is too ridiculous to to hear from you.
In your own thinking, he may have acted out Obj's script but pls tell your readers, who and who were founded guilty by Ribadu that were not corrupt and truely not guilty as charged?
If a crook is guilty as charged, would you call it an intimidation? Did Obj ask those that Ribadu investigated and founded guilty to be corrupt?
And how are readers {who already responded} preventing Farida from doing her work?
Readers are only angry that Farida is not doing her job. Were readers angry with Ribadu? NO! Readers were not angry because readers were so pleased that Ribadu was doing great job.
To the best of my knowledge none of the readers you are trying to confront here ever lied about Farida's lousiness.
If for any reason you are uncomfortable with what you are reading about her, then talk to her to do her work. Her train is already running late and readers will not ceased to be angry.

Thanks for your usual good job and keep it up. I will now go and vote for your GAB awards.

First, the Commission responded to my second article in which I demanded the resignation of its chairperson, within hours of its publication. For two weeks, however, it ignored the first, which did not seek sanctions against its head. This seems to confirm my position that top Nigerians often put themselves ahead of Nigeria.

Second, the EFCC says the issue is the 2007 Report, not the 2008. This is untrue. On 27 September 2006, the Commission submitted the 2006 Report to the General Assembly. If that was the 2005 Report, as the EFCC now claims, the Commission owes two reports: 2006 and 2007 (the one it now says it has submitted).

The Commission asks of me the following questions:

(1) Is he aware that some of the issues he raised in his first article were those that should have been taken care of in the 2006 report?

I am not aware. The Commission should specify what those issues are, and what it means by "should have been taken care of." Is he suggesting that there are important issues that were not taken of in that report, and that are also omitted in the “2007 Report”?

(2) Was there any effort to confirm from the Commission or the National Assembly whether the report he erroneously called 2008 report has been submitted before rushing to call for the head of the Chairman of the Commission?

Yes of course. And I also had other journalists try to confirm the existence of the report. On the basis of those inquiries, I know that by September 30, 2008, no current report (whether called 2007 or 2008) had been submitted to the General Assembly. If there had been such a report, today's EFCC reply suggests that the Commission would quickly have pointed that out, if only to put me to shame.

In fact, following the publication of my piece on 28 September, Mr. Femi Babafemi, the EFCC's Head of Media & Publicity sent out a piece entitled: “UPDATE ON THE ACTIVITIES OF THE ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL CRIMES COMMISSION, EFCC.” Not once did he mention that a “2007 Report” existed. If the report indeed existed at that time, why did he not draw attention to it?

My suspicion is that in the past two weeks, the EFCC has cobbled together some kind of report labeled the 2007 Report in which it treats some 2006 issues, and smuggled it into the National Assembly.

I hereby ask Mr. Babafemi, who penned the reply to my article, to fulfill the demands of full disclosure and tell Nigerians when the so-called "2007 Report" was submitted to the National Assembly. Why did the Commission wait for me to write a follow-up article before announcing that a current report has been submitted to the Assembly? And if the 2008 Report is premature, where is the 2006 Report, and when was it submitted?

Finally, I would like to assure Mr. Babafemi that my concern is Nigeria, not my ego. I am happy to hear that there is a report, and I will try to obtain it over the next few days. I hope it is thorough, thoughtful, and honest. In 2006, the EFCC submitted a 32-page report on the mess on Enugu State alone.

Hopefully, the report also covers such important issues as that of Patience Jonathan, the wife of the Vice-President whose husband was at that time the Governor of Bayelsa State. Nigerians would recall that in August and September of 2006, the EFCC seized N104 million and $13.5 million dollars (US) in two cases from Mrs. Jonathan. At that time, the EFCC told the media that Mrs. Jonathan had tried to launder the N104 million through one Nancy Ebere Nwosu. It sought obtained a court order to freeze the money.

I am sure I am not the only Nigerian who would be pleased to be updated about this and hundreds of other outstanding epochal matters. Our being educated on the issues would be easier if Mr. Babafemi chose to make the reports in question available to the media. Otherwise, we will find them on our own, and make a judgment about the quality of work that the EFCC is doing.

[/B][/URL]
Kudos Sonala, to your response to Babafemi.

Admin, what's happening. The thread to Babafemi & Sonala's response are closed.

I wanted to respond to Babafemi but was glad that Sonala quickly responded.
Babafemi's response was typical. Not well thought out, full of lies & lame.
Osita Nwaja's replacement is glaring in his mediocrity just as we are clearly seeing that Farida can't fill Ribadu's shoes. He's wearing a size 12 & she's a size 5.
EFCC under Farida has just been talk shops & workshops. You can see how th Rivers state government was emboldened in their defense of their "Thief of Staff" Nyesom Wike for laundering over 4 billion Naira recently.

Sonala & Villagers let's pile up the pressure on EFCC. Corruption is killing us.
