Once again the internet rumour mill has it that Yar Adua has finally kicked the bucket.

Is it true this time, and if so, will Nigeria be permitted to enjoy 10 minutes of uninterrupted mains electricity, in honor of the man who promised it so often but never actually delivered so much as an instant of power ?

Apologies for repeating what now turns out to be an unfounded, but nonetheless plausible rumour. A couple of contributors to other Nigerian-themed forums reported Yar Adua's death simultaneously some days ago, and since El Presidente has been functionally dead for as long as anyone can remember, those statements seemed credible enough to warrant verification here.

That being said, I would not be surprised at all if it transpires that Yar Adua has in fact been comatose or dead for weeks, but that the transition is being concealed while the northern Nigerian power brokers try to figure out a way to sideline the non-northern vice-president in favor of some semi-literate buffoon with a muslim name, whose first televised speech would begin with the words "Pellow Kwantirimen".

The apprehension of a Hausa Nigerian man just in the past few hours, for trying to reprise that retarded shoe bomber incident aboard an American airliner, has further sharpened my personal disdain for the megalomaniac machinations of the guys with the tall hats, so please forgive the ranting nature of this post.
