Mallam Nuhu Ribadu Has no Faith in Prophet Mohammed or Allah

It has become obvious that the history of Nigeria cannot be completely written without the mention of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). When this institution (EFCC) was signed into law, the belief to everyone was that it would bring succor to the common-man because money meant to elevate living standards of Nigerians would be judiciously utilized. How then can you talk about this important institution in the lives of Nigerians without the mention of its chairman, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu. No doubt corruption is the antithesis of Nigeria’s democracy, so courage and faith are the key words Ribadu needed to radically reduce this most dreaded disease in Nigeria. It’s a           shame that, Ribadu, like his former boss, Chief Obasanjo,(OBJ) missed the great opportunity to write his name in “gold” in African history.

When the media quoted Ribadu as a man ready to die for Nigeria in the course of fighting this magnanimous war against corruption, the thought of courage and faith crossed our minds. Why would anyone doubt Ribadu when he beats his chest frequently that he knows how to cleanse the nation of corruption? To have faith, is to believe or trust in your creator, Almighty God and His son Jesus Christ. But to the Muslims, which Ribadu is, after God, is Prophet Mohammed. Faith can be buttressed from the teachings of the Holy Bible which says, “He who gives to the poor, lends to the Lord.” This is a powerful part of the scripture Ribadu and many others are not privilege to know. Imagine when you lend to the Lord, what is it on this planet earth and in Heaven do you need that God would not give you? Is it protection, or your needs, just name it. Inshort, every person with wisdom want to be a creditor to God because of the embarrassing reward associated with it. Perhaps, if Ribadu had known this fact, he would have damned the consequences of crossing the path of his boss (Chief Obasanjo) and carry out his assigned duties of reducing corruption which is a direct assistance to poor Nigerians. There are many ways to give to the poor, and this is one of it. Indeed, when you give to the poor, you don’t see God standing there to witness your kindness, but because you believe, there comes your faith and your huge reward. If Ribadu knew this but refused not to cross the path of his bosses: first was OBJ and now is President Yar’Adua, for certain reasons, then the question is; what are his problems? His wife didn’t marry and bore children for him because he is the chairman of EFCC. Ribadu is not seen as the average Nigerian with complex who thinks that only their position in office and being affluent can make them pose for their concubines and wives. Suffice it to say, that Ribadu should not get sleep when Nigerians die of hunger on a daily basis in a country that is blessed abundantly.

One school of thought feels that Ribadu does not want to investigate the cronies of his bosses ‘cause he is contended with being a local champion in Nigeria. Another group of tink-tank feels that, if he had done a good job without any exception to the laws of corruption, chances are that he could get more paying job(s) abroad like some of his counterparts who got better job offers at the World bank or else where across the globe as well as leave a sound legacy for his generation.

It’s palpable that Ribadu did not understand the role his commission was meant to play in the lives of Nigerians. Perhaps, with his education and exposure, he did not know that the debit to his monthly income was not charged to OBJ’s business empire but to the nation’s resources. Imagine how people perish daily in Nigeria due to bad roads and most of the money meant for road construction was last seen on paper, and thereafter the money vanished into the bank accounts of the untouchable(s) yet Ribadu is comfortable with that. The revelations of Alhaji Atiku during the OBJ/Atiku saga have been swept under the carpet. We would continue to go on and on because instances abound where Ribadu turned his eyes in the opposite direction of massive corruption. What about the glaring financial profligacy that took place in NPA few years ago? But for Bode George, the NPA chieftain who filled a legal suit for his supposedly libel, the recent revelations, would have eluded Nigerians if Bello, the guy who represented EFCC was not there to tell some of the heart-breaking and half-baked stories. Furthermore, you want to ask that if Ribadu is a trained lawyer and Police officer, does it mean he doesn’t have people trained in finance in his team? Whereas the Elders Forum in Delta State is telling us that the embezzlement in Delta State under Chief Ibori’s leadership is more than 150bn naira, Ribadu is telling us of a peanut of 9bn naira against Ibori. Does it look like Ribadu knows what he is doing? Though you don’t want to jump to bias conclusion, but it’s interesting to know the facts. The reality is that, on a monthly average, billions of naira was disbursed to Delta State for a period of 8 years during Ibori’s tenure. On this note, you’re inclined to tilt towards the figures of the Elders Forum, give or take 3% margin of error. In effect, the 9bn quoted by EFCC against Ibori can be disingenuous to Nigerians. On the other hand, just after Ibori left office, we were told that, Ibori was questioned by EFCC and his travel passport was under EFCC lock-and-key. But how the same Ibori traveled to America and elsewhere remains a secret to presidency and EFCC. Of course Nigerians don’t have the right to know even when a different picture was painted earlier to the public. When Ibori was recently arrested, we were told that EFCC had been looking for him as if EFCC did not know that Ibori had been moving freely in and out of the gates of Aso Rock. Oh yes, it’s a coincidence that, Ibori was only arrested when Ribadu’s current boss traveled outside the country, and the plea-bargain chorus is waiting to be executed in a bid to continue to cheat on poor Nigerians.

Ribadu told law makers in Nigeria recently that, “I challenge all of us to take the lead in changing our country. History will judge us harshly if we fail.” What an irony. Does Ribadu not know that his ex-uniform counterparts (military men) he exempted from investigation are still manipulating the polity of the nation till today with their ill-gotten wealth? Or it is a secret to him that the greed and unaccountability of those military men pauperize Nigerians and yet they’re living in opulence and causing political instability. Here was a man (Ribadu) given all the tools to fight corruption, he decided to make exceptions against the Act that set-up EFCC, and yet had the effrontery to tell law makers that, “law makers in several countries have been in the vanguard of positive change of their societies. You should not be an exception.” Ribadu has not asked himself why he decided to make exceptions to his investigations. Apparently, he does not have the courage and desired faith to do the job. Initially, we thought he had too many cases to deal with at a time and would soon catch-up, but it turns out that, the nation’s path to reduce corruption under Ribadu is still very far-away. This writer could be the most disappointed person across the globe on Ribadu’s performance especially as the first chairman of this commission. With all sincerity, this is a simple job to uplift the poor and make life more meaningful to mankind in Nigeria. There is danger in Ribadu setting this pace, because the next person to take over this leadership would begin with a dilemma.

It’s still a surprise to many people that Ribadu has not adequately addressed the nation’s myriad corruption cases. Indeed, his fight has only reverberated in certain quarters. Ribadu ought to have put in herculean effort, instead of his miniature style. If the founders of democracy thought of Executive, Judiciary, and Legislature, what is wrong with Nigeria modifying her own democracy to include EFCC as the 4th arm of government in order to bump up living conditions of the masses in Nigeria?

This article is completly out of contest with the NIGERIAN situation.
As far as i am concern MALLAM RIBADU NUHU have done his job perfectly well even with interferance from the Senate,Presidency, traditional rulers, religious leaders and co.
Mallam Ribadu did not creat EFCC.
EFCC as an institution might have failed in some aspect.
Because of the limits of law.
But what do you expect from a country were there no respect for human lives and law and were the President decides who become Police boss and A.G.F.
I am sure you are aware he (RIBADU) have been relieved of his position as EFCC'S chairman.
The fact still remains that he was not relieved of his position due to non performance.
I am sure in few months time those that wish NIGERIA well will come to appreciate him.
Only the likes of IBORI AND CO will be rejoicing now.
As things are working according to plan.
In few months time IBORI will work free.
I don't understand the reasons for faulting EFCC'S chairman rather than the institution and the power bidding it.
Lastly one those not have to be a christian or muslim for one to carry out his/her duity perfectly.
After all one of the indicted governor was said to be a Reverand Father.

I second Ray wrt to the direction of this article. NR should not be seen as a personification of anti-corruption and cleaning the augean stable of filthy lucre in Nigeria. Most Nigerians are genetically wired to be corrupt as result of systemic exigencies. (Not my words but a quote from the Hon Alamieyesiegha 2005).
I have divided corruption into fiscal or monetary corruption and no-fiscal or non-monetary one and the latter which is outside the remit of EFCC does more harm to the nation. The former involves a one time stealing of huge sum of money and is and end in itself. The latter eg falsification of population figures or votes remains with us and continues dealing with us for ever and ever.
Two things cannot be legislated away in Nigeria, Coups and Corruption. Both are endemic.
NR has done his best, let some other person carry on where he stopped. It is just UMY'A did the right thing at a wrong time ( after Ibori has been arrested).:mad:
Regards to all villagers and Happy New Year in advance.:D:D:D:D:D

The Nuhu EFCC is a political hog-wash. Nuhu was just a paid bully and you can see his 'tiny brain" when he said that corruption is worst than terrorism because of his myopic view of acknowleding the senseless slaughtering of the Igbos by Northern Religious fanatics. Consequently, Nuhu has reserved the PDP machinery led by Obj very well and now that all the "thieving governors" led by IBORI are ripe to be charged, somebody is playing a political game of sidelining Nuhu to confuse the hell out of al Nigerians. The plain reason Nuhu is sidelined is that the "Truth" about how corruption stemmed from the highest cadre of government(The Presidency) is about to be revealed with the capture of IBORI. This style is tatamount to the so-called "Palace Coups" of those days where each "Mititary Junta" was side lined in a pre-arranged "Chop-I-Chop" fashion resulting in no body being probed.

The fact that his EFCC commission left Folks like IBB, OBJ, Atiku and several others to walk around as free men who are busy installing leadership in Nigeria is a shapeful display of medioricity for a job that started since 2003. Nuhu's tiny brain is also at over drive when he mentioned that money returned to others without a chronicle of billions returned from "safe heaven banks' overseas to Nigerian treasury. His complaint about lack of effective tools and software is so elementary and nonesnsical when many Nigeria IT personnels all over the world could have designed a system to aide him grab more rogues. Also, he did not think of setting aside say 10% of recovered money for procuring the needed tools to carry his work effectively. Here in the USA, it is called administrative cost because the tax payers money used to do the job must be replaced handsomely.

For the sake of history, I may join hand to say that corruption fighting that is politically engineered is not going to be effective in Nigeria because if the same party keeps recircling themselves into power, how can a meaningful probe take place? For one thing, we knew IBB begat OBJ who begat Yar'auda. Given this line of force, who among their political appointees will probe his paymaster? Not in Nigeria. So for effectiveness, the EFCC should be revatilized as an "independent" crime fighting Agency similar to the FBI for which all crimes are prosecutable from writing laws of the land without consideration to immunity to anybody, elected officials or not. I find it ironical that poor people who stole salt or pepper in Oyigbo market are lavishing in jails without proper representation or trial while those known to have robbed us dry with their "pens or guns" are basking in glory and ostentitous life styles in Nigeria as our kids have no school to attend, our products lack dependable transportation for econic growth, as our natural resources and revenues are weigh-housed in foreign banks while our masses die in abject poverty compounded by lack of medical infrastructure. What a shame to the "Sham" called corruption fighting in Nigera?

Nigeria has just succeeded in deceiving the world with the so called improvement in corruption for over eight years compared to how Nigeria got strenghtened up within six months under Murtala Mohammed-OBj boss, who OBJ could not emulate due to his own GREED and CORRUPTION. Nigeria will be serious only:

1) Shipments to Nigeria are received without the "Thieves" called Customs stop pilfering and collecting senseless bribes

2) When you can send books and they received by the deserving students

3) When the menace of "Oga wetin you carry mentality of hungry police force" in Nigeria is quelled to zero

4) When every Nigeria is documented in a National and State registery for inland revenue collection which cannot be converted into personal aggradizement.

5) When every business dully registered is taxed according to the income stream and when money made through business transactions pay stipulated taxes for improving the lives of the masses.

6) When proper identification resulting from item #4 helps to transact business without hauling "Ghana has gone money bags". Use of credit cards and checks can help track money movement as a $10K transcation in the USA attracts attention for tax purposes.

7) The public waste of Government expenditures with nothing to show for it has been properly strutnized as a wholesome excercise and not as a political witch-hunting as EFCC has just proved.

8) Until our Judicial system has the 'Ball" to prosecute fearlessly as an independent balance-of-power arm of the government. IBB comes to court all tell us where he ammasses the money to build his estate in Minna. Until Atiku and OBJ tell us where they got the money to build Universities after letting our academic institutions go to waste. Until all those government officials whose salaries are public records tell us where they got the money for erecting mansions in their villages and elsewhere. Every Ex-official must be accountable through the courts.

9) When every Nigerian elected or not is accountable without hiding under political umbrella or man know "devil" mentality

10) When hard-work is rewarded instead of sycomphacy or hero worshiping called respect to "Thieves", "Chiefs" and other jaw-breaking and frivilous titles - Where every body answers his real name with some humility. Habaa!

WHATEVER IS THE SMOKES SCREEN, LET US STOP DECEIVING OURSELVES OR LET THE POLITICIANS AND EX-MILITARY LEADERS KNOW THAT THEY MUST COUGH OUT OUR STOLEN BELONGINGS WHETHER THEY LIKE IT OR NOTE NOTING THAT CRIMES COMMITTED OVER 100 YEARS ARE STILL BEING UNCOVERED IN THE USA AND OTHER ADVANCED WORLDS. UNTIL WE RECOVER ALL OUR STOLEN MONEY FROM ALL PAST CRONIES, THERE WILL BE NO JUSTICE IN NIGERIA. Thanks.

I disagree with Alams quote that Nigerians are wired with corruption, i can say that the Nigerian system demands that only the corrupt can survive, Why do we think that locking Ibori, kalu. nnamani up and getting back the stolen money will make PHCN to start functioning or roads plyable or do you think these present governors are not fleecing our economy. We need to build institutions that make corruption more difficult to thrive and then run a transparent, independent anti corruption agency. These factors are fundamental factors which we should get right before moving to score goals with docking Ibori, Ethnicity is still the biggest problem in nigeria and somewhere in its coven lies corruption. Most human beings, be it white or black given the ease and opportunity to steal money in Nigeria while in power will give it a shot.
Just as an aside information, at the end of the year in the United Kingdom a list of gifts recieved by the Prime minister is listed and mad public.

Hi, folks!

I am constrained to have to express my utter amusement about the author's rather impudent resort to attention-grabbing, by mischievously deploying a completely unrelated set of emotive pseudo-religious catch-phrases as the title of this thread.

Nnaaaaaa, na wa for some pipul-o-o-O-O-O-O!
Anyway, make I go cool off for Elders' Forum (Bar & Discotheque) for ground floor, since I dey do overtime for Village Twin Towers Complex today. I hear sey all de Senior Babes and Big Boys of our Village (of no regret) dem go dey there, relax and enjoy de post-Xmas, pre-new year miliki to shege! Kai!!!

We go see, sha. Tomorrow! ...

Muchas gracias.

Dear Don,

I was about to urge Magnum77 to advance to your infamous twin towers to be de-JJCed when you intervened:D:D:D:D on the thread.
Anyways, remember me during your jollifications with the senior boys and babes. Mine is planned for the last day of 2007 to usher in 2008.:D:D:D:D
Dear Aguabata, you have also hinted the manipulation of ethnic origin or ethnicity which I describe as non-fiscal corruption and which is not under the remit of EFCC. Prof Nnoli in his masterpiece "Ethnic Politics In Nigeria" said that much.
Now M77, I do agree with all you have said. But NR is not the cause of the abscence of these parameters in Nigeria. The ubiquitous Nigeria Factor was there before NR and will remain after NR.
The devil was in the timing of the removal of NR, if not he is not infallible:twisted::twisted: like the Pope.
Once more to the Don, regards to the Senora Carla and Senorita and thanks for the xmas and New Year e-cards.
I wish your e-family same cybergreetings in this cyberworld.

Indeed, when you give to the poor, you don’t see God standing there to witness your kindness, but because you believe, there comes your faith and your huge reward.

Sir, other words for it is Bribery and Corruption; and I wonder why the Church and Mosque continue to encourage worshippers to bribe god on days of worship. I suppose they think that by so doing, they would have a special treatment on judgement day(Ha)—How shameful indeed!.

I wish you had not brought religion into a discussion that has nothing to do with religion. It can distract from the core issue, you know.

Gosh! If Ribadu’s performance is a disappointment to you, you must be the most perfect person in our galaxy--your standard is so out of this world!

It’s still a surprise to many people that Ribadu has not adequately addressed the nation’s myriad corruption cases.

If "myriad" mean “a very (even indefinitely) large number”, how do you expect ONE man to solve all of them. What are the Police, Governments, Intelligence agencies, and the rest of us supposed to be doing—I suppose, fold our hands and watch Nuhu Ribadu carry the cross.

If Nuhu Ribadu's performance is below your standard, is there anyone in Nigeria (or in the world for that matter) that is a success in your world? Sir, you MADE Nuhu Ribadu a god, any wonder that you feel disappointed in his performance?

Tosan,

I do not agree with your write up. I have one question for you:

Can you fight corruption in Nigeria and stamp it out based on what Nigeria is today?

If your answer is yes to the above, please enumerate the steps and solutions you will adopt so as to enlighten novices like me in this dangerous war.
