I am not Committed, Now you all Know! Print E-mail
Wednesday, 18 January 2006
Yes, I know you sister. . . . If you want to read a fairy tale, don't come here. If you want to pretend that life is always roses and kisses, come and buy the golden gate bridge. You can save that for your fake friends that you lie to. Me, I am being real. And this man has gotten on my f******* last nerve today. . . .  When he throws up these kinds of insecurities, I wonder so what if I make it big, become the general counsel of a Fortune 500 company or make partner in my firm, is this how he will be having insecurities? What if he loses his job and we have to rely on me as the provider, will he be unable to take it because he is so intent on being in control? Where do these insecurities come from anyway? Why? I respect him. I try to be a good wife.

Matrimonial Homes, Uncle Biodun and Sugar Print E-mail
Thursday, 12 January 2006

I would hear my mum and her sisters talking about who was in danger of losing her matrimonial home to someone who was out to wreck it; or who was threatening to wreck somebody's matrimonial home; or who wrecked another person's matrimonial home; or who should be careful before she uses her own nasty behavior to wreck her own matrimonial home.  . . .  So, one day, I asked my mum, what is a matrimonial home? The way she looked at me, I knew it was one of those adult phrases. Then she confirmed it: "Where did you hear matrimonial home?" So, I said, you and your sisters always say it so what does it mean? Answer: "It is not everything that adults say that children must know."

Avec beaucoup d'amour, Moi, Ibu Print E-mail
Thursday, 05 January 2006

There was an arbitration between the country and an American company that was doing BOT port contracts for them.  The country was our client.  Well, as the only African in my firm now, they assigned me to work on the case.  Being African can be good for something, trust me!  From day one, Ibu felt that I was part of the services for the country on the case and I don't mean in a professional way.  At that time, I was not yet married.  But, I was seriously dating Boo.  Initially, I ignored Ibu's attention but he soon stopped being subtle.  Actually, let me be honest, I kind of started enjoying the attention.  You know, it was real African attention, the way a Naija guy will toast you and make your head start feeling dandy.

Na Sexy Sasu wake me for Christmas morning oh. My cell phone started ringing at around 3:30 a.m. and I just knew that my people in Naija done come again. No, not the ones that ask you for money. You know me, all those who have ever tried to stiff me up for coins know that they won't get anything so no one bothers anymore. In our extended family, they call me the hard one. It is not that I don't give oh. But, no one can just call me and expect a freebee.

When a TV is Your Competition and Australia Print E-mail
Wednesday, 21 December 2005
Why would a full blooded man insist that soccer, basket ball and the Tour de France must compete for his attention with me, even in my bedroom? Tell me o, if you know, tell me. Because, am I not attractive and engaging enough to sustain his attention? Ehen, answer me Lance Armstrong? Abi na Michael Jordan sef person one call to this matter? So, I decided, I won't watch the TV. Since he loves the TV more than his wife, he should watch it himself. .
