A Pictorial Commentary on the 2007 Nigerian So-Called Elections

As I sit up typing this, I'm thinking about the range of emotions that have passed through me since hearing about the farce that masqueraded under the name of 'the Nigerian 2007 Elections'. In the days after hearing about the shameless rigging, I've gone through disbelief, anger and finally a deep sadness in realising that Nigeria's political future is more likely to mirror Russia's than say, Poland's. It's been so painful that I've tried to avoid reading stories picking over the election... but I think I now need to say my piece and be done with it. Except that for me, words by themselves don't just cut it - so remembering an article that I wrote a while ago on the topic, I've decided that what I feel is best expressed in lines and curves rather than letters and numbers.

	What is missing in your picture is the motley of PDP crowds that are ready to lap up anything that comes from Baba. I only see the rest of Nigerians who are appalled at the concotion produced by OBJ, Iwu and co Nigeria Limited. Great picture nevertheless.

	Also missing from the pic were Paul, Adujie, I,L,N, Olusola, Baronnes Chalker(madam Predicament), Andrew (checking out from Nigeria) Young, Carl Masters and the multitude of hypocritical megaphones too many to be listed here whose voices like a LP cracked vinyl kept repeating the mantra "the elections were free and fair" like the P&T radios of old, as if by repeating the moniker it becomes true, until we are numbed into sleepiness. Thanks SLB for the vivid illustration and which in spite of your cave, made both my day and breakfast to boot. :D :D :D Kindly patent it to newpapers in Nigeria.

	Nice work Shoko. I hope it gets picked up by one of the local newspapers. The only other comment I have is that INEC was not incompetent. They were actually competent. Their "Master" hired them to bungle the job and they competently bungled it. Odego

	I remain on my knees since the "elections" were conducted and results announced. What I am still doing on my knees? You can't just understand!!! I can see bleak future. Yardua annoucing a cabinet that will not perform since status quo is maintained. I can see helpless yardua in the hands of desperate hungary fellows, pushing him here and there. I can see continuation of darkness from the problem that has changed name (PHCN). I can see continuation of my people drinking from the gutters without hope of better days ahead. I can see my people exchanging their phone for the want of food on their table. I can see the closure of primary and secondary schools due to non availability of resources to maintain them. I can see our public University in several months of closure due to students' unrest. I can see the next election not conducted but results announced. I remain on my knees supplicating to the Almighty to let this cup pass Nigeria. God is still processing my applications and I am not prepared to get up until the cup has passed ,my beloved country. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Short live all those working against her progress. Amen

	What happened was not an election and it's outrageous to dignify it with any semblance of democratic procedure. Yes, what happened in Nigeria, as has been happening for as long as one can remember, is daylight robbery, started by the colonial masters and being perfected by their puppets. It doesn't look like it's going to change soon UNLESS THE JUDICIARY IS WILLING AND READY TO ROCK THE BOAT. IN OTHER WORDS, THE ONLY SEMBLANCE OF HOPE NIGERIANS HAVE NOW IS THE JUDICIARY IF THE ROBBERY IS GOING TO STOPPED. Great illustration, SLB!!!
