Nigeria: Demarchy And Not Democracy Is The Answer PDF Print E-mail

Nigeria just DONT GET IT! Democracy is not the solution to our problem, rather the cause. Democracy is a rule by the majority over the population, and contrarily, with no limits to what is decided as rule to the majority. Okay, it’s working for some, but Nigeria is like football field with a mobile “goal post”, where some set of people change the posts at will. To make matter worst, we don’t follow the rules of the game, so, why can’t we change the rule? Must we do “copy-copy” all our life and history? If we must “copy-copy”, why cant we “copy-copy” something that will work and suit how peculiar situation. Demarchy and NOT Democracy is therefore what best suit Nigeria. This was the original idea and the principal characteristics of the ancient democracy. What we need is change and government by the people- let select our national decision makers by sortition, people with burning desire to make a change, serve and affect lives, at least “chop and work” and not “chop and loot”. Let us be sincere with ourselves and ask if (s)elections is an appropriate way forward for Nigeria? After all, is there ever any sincere electoral election in this country? If it is not working for us then let consider or explore the alternatives?

The idea of democracy is a West thing and its foundation is rooted consciously into the birth of the country and from birth of the citizen. Voting simply doesn't work in Nigeria, and it will not work, and the fruits are our perpetual inability to ordinarily promote serious challenges to our prevailing problems. Those that suffer the most under any democracy are the minorities that constitute the so call democracy where the so-call democratically selected can not even define democracy or understand what it stood for! I am not a student of political science, but elementary science influence my stance that if some thing is not working right, check you contributory factors and try alternative methods, especially when they are readily available. Finally, One set of alternatives I strongly suggest is referendums and direct mass initiative, however, having spent time researching on wikipedia, history websites, and few government textbook; Lottocracy, Ethnocracy, and Meritocracy are some other Forms of government that will work in Nigeria and solve our problem- at least to really and truly re-bradnd us forever. Let us forget electoral politics that have failed us, and as some school of thought argued contributed to the entrance of the military in our dark times.
