The ranks of Nigerians supporting the convening of an independent conference to be composed of ethnic nationalities to discuss pertinent issues affecting Nigerians as well as to fashion out a new constitution has swollen considerably since the on-going government-sanctioned NPRC conference hit the rocks on resource control and derivation.
Several groups and prominent individuals based in the US have come together under the umbrella of PRONACO–USA. As part of activities lined up to drum up support from Nigerians at home and abroad this new group has invited a delegation of PRONACO leaders in Nigeria to visit the US and confer with Nigerians living in the US.
The events are scheduled to kick off with an all-day sensitization and strategy conference at the Sheraton Hotel, near La Guardia airport in New York which will include speeches that address the "People's Will and Sovereignty in Nigeria". Addresses by Chief Anthony Enahoro and Prof. Wole Soyinka (among others) are expected.
The Protem-Chairman of PRONACO-USA, Dr. Baba Adams has assured that Nigerians from all walks of life will be attendance on July 23rd 2005 to witness the birth of a new era that grants the Nigerian people the power to decide for themselves how to be governed.
PRONACO-USA intends to reach out to all Nigerian as a way of mobilizing resources for and ensuring full Diaspora participation in the convention which is scheduled to commence as soon as pre-conference activities such as this are completed.
PRONACO has asked every willing adult Nigerian to contribute 20 naira towards the convention, which is US dollars equivalent of 15 cents per person. PRONACO-USA has pledged to raise $20,000 towards the convention.
