BREAKING NEWS: Fayose and Deputy, Olujimi impeached, his whereabouts still unknown

By Omoyele Sowore

After many twists and turns, intrigues, manipulations, black mails and threats, today at about 9:00 AM in Ado Ekiti, Southwestern Ekiti State at the state house of assembly, 24 out of 26 lawmakers, finally impeached Governor Peter Ayodele Fayose and his deputy, Mrs. Biodun Olujimi on corruption charges. Amidst palpable tension and tight security, the members of the state house assembly led by the speaker, Mr. Friday Aderemi convened an emergency session after which they moved back into Ado Ekiti from a neighboring town where they hid since their last sitting that was attacked by hoodlums.

In a short, precise and concise sitting they passed a guilty judgment on the governor who they earlier accused of embezzling state funds, particularly the Ekiti State Poultry Project handled by his childhood friend and contractor, Gbenga James. Mr. Gbenga James was star witness against his former pal, Ayo Fayose. The speaker, Mr. Friday Aderemi is now acting governor of Ekiti State and will be sworn in today at noon (12 Noon Nigerian time).

The governor’s whereabouts is still unknown at press time, sources have claimed that he possibly slipped out of Nigeria through a method popularized by Chief Mike Adenuga, that Saharareporters was told is known as “Glo-Exile”- largely assisted by security agents to cross the border to a neighboring West African country in order to avoid arrest by EFCC officials who laid in wait for his impeachment in Ado Ekiti.

The inspector general of police, Sunday Ehindero and the commissioner of police in Ekiti State, Mrs. Ivy okoronkwo were fingered by sources as aiding the escape of Governor Fayose from Ado Ekiti early Sunday morning, the state police commissioner was said to have dismantled road blocks leading to Ibadan and Lagos between 2:00 AM and 4:00 AM while her counterparts did the same in other states to facilitate Fayose’s escape. A source who monitored her since yesterday told Saharareporters that she was heard talking Governor Fayose (now former) till this morning from his hideout.

This is good ridance to bad rubbish, it is long overdue. In my view and as many Ekiti people will opine, Fayose is nothing but a thief, rogue and a criminal. The fact that he ran away proved that there is something he has to hide. The issue here is not whether it is the elites that want to remove him or not, but the allegations leveled against him.
Where was Fayose when Alao-Akala replaced the former governor of Oyo state? Where was Fayose and Belgore when Bayelsa governor was impeached? Were these two impeachment in line with Nigeria constitution?
Fayose is nothing but a crook, thank God he has been impeached!

Rule of law or rule of jungle, Fayose deserves no pity, we should insist he is apprehended, tried and jailed if convicted. Same must be done for all the robbers (governors) in different states.

Why can't Auspicious celebrate the much-awaited impeachment of that loathful buffoon? Why doesn't he feel a rush of excitement over such 'good riddance to bad rubbish'? I mean..I have looked forward to the eventual disgrace of that imbecile of a Governor for 'the love of Lolade'!!! Could it be that, the ILLEGALITY of the process adopted in Ayo Fayose's removal has soured the celebration? Yeah..probably. Unfortunately.

Why do we fool ourselves in Nigeria? Why do we bungle everything? Why do we insist on calling it "Democracy"? Let those who cry out to those who care to listen know, that whatever it is they are doing out there in government is not in the name of the people they claim to represent. Or let me speak for myself; your latest action in Ekiti is not in my name!

(DEMOCRACY!)
Demonstration of Craze..
(DEMOCRACY!)
Crazy Demonstration!
(DEMOCRACY!)
If e nor be Craze,
(DEMOCRACY!)
Why for Africa!
(DEMOCRACY!)

Auspicious.

I am ashamed of the circumstances we have found ourselves. We can not challenge corruption (or any form of illegality) effectively with another form of corruption.
Yes, Fayose might be gone today, but are our problems gone? Or do you believe that we are taking the right steps in the right direction? These are the questions that every "right-thinking" Nigeria will have to take to heart.
It is a pity when we become the laughing stock of the rest of the world because of vendetta and the vindictiveness of our leaders and their yes-men.

Nigeria will not "move forward" until we believe and begin to do things the "right" way irrespective of the emotions attached. When democracy can not be protected by the constitution and everything is done to achieve a "set" goal, then democracy dies. Nigeria's democracy is effectively dead under OBJ's watch. What a legacy!

I Wonder Why People Always Complain Or Fault The Way These Rogues Are Removed From Office, I See Nothing Wrong With Removing A Governor In Gestapo Style If The Govrnor Has Stolen Gestapo Style, I Hope The Issue Of Third Term Will Not Arise As He Was Believed To Be The Presidents Son, So My Brothers Let Us Wobble And Fumble We Will Get There. Rome They Say Was Not Built In A Day And The Western Democracy We Compare Ourseleves To Was Not Achieved In One Day Let Us Continue To Make Mistakes We Will Get There.

I agree Sniper but unfortunately this anti-climax might be because we suspect there might be something lurking in the darkness. It is not unusua; for a 'magic' trick to surface whether from Ekiti People or OBJ.

It will be a wait and see thing as OBJ reacts to this or even the scramble for positioning which is 'normal' in naija politics.

Fayose is gone and that is the only thing we are sure of now. There is Plateau and from the reports today Anambra which the President just finished visiting.

We wait.

@jibitoye
The problem with some of us is that we stay in Europe or Lagos and do not know what is going on at the grassroot. Fayose is an evil which has to be eliminated in Ekiti by any means. This is a man who personaly supervised the murder of Omojola, a Nigerian in dispora who came home for holidays.
Fayose was like a god in the streets of Ado-Ekiti. This is a boy (Fayose) who openly insulted and abused the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, a first class Oba in Yorubaland not only in Ekiti. He arrogated power to himself. The best the people of Ekiti could get is if this boy is impeached, he got what he deserved.
The whole world now know that not only is Fayose a thief, he is also a coward, he ran away. So all the noise he is making is just lies.
Whether we want to accept it or not, Fayose is gone FOREVER, rule of law or not
