Press Statement

Nigeria’s Elections

The United States regrets that Nigeria has missed an opportunity to strengthen an element of its democracy through a sound electoral process. Analysis of the process by most international observers does not conform to what Nigeria's national electoral commission has reported. There are credible reports of malfeasance and vote rigging in some constituencies. The scope of violence that occurred also was regrettable. Overall, the process was seriously flawed. In spite of these significant shortcomings, the commitment of ordinary Nigerians to democracy remains noteworthy: We praise those Nigerians who adhered to the democratic process by exercising their right to vote.

The United States urges all Nigerians to eschew violence or any other extra-constitutional actions that would foster insecurity and hamper political dialogue. We commend those political party leaders who are urging their supporters to remain calm and peaceful notwithstanding disappointment with the conduct of the election. A peaceful, constitutional, and civilian-controlled resolution of challenges to the electoral results is vital for the growth of democracy in Nigeria. Whatever the outcome of legal challenges to the electoral results, we are encouraged that on May 29 Nigeria will experience its first civilian-to-civilian transfer of power.

The United States is prepared to work with Nigeria's next administration in building upon our excellent bilateral relations and to continue promotion peace and security throughout Africa. We also look forward to helping it implement international recommendations for improving the preparation, administration, and conduct of future elections in Nigeria.

The benign art of speaking from both sides of the mouth at the same time, is best fuelled by an insatiable appetite for crude oil.

Terse Statements are the stuff of Diplomatic Speak! To leave wiggle-room! So whats new?

Americans have not taken the bait thrown by the Nigerian Chalabi(s) here at the NVS and else where! The self-exiled Nigerians are upset?

So, some Nigerians here are upset? Aayah

So, does this now mean the Americans will not INVADE us and conduct a free and fair election for Nigeria? Does this mean that the Americans will respect our sovereignty? respect our political independence and territorial integrity?

Does this mean that America will not militarily intervene in Nigeria's internal affairs..... as some Nigerians have wanted and had demanded?

DW,

Which one you dey now? What else do you expect from a diplomatic channel. They have already condemned the elections and asked the aggreived parties to seek constitutional means to seek relief. Do you expect them to be threaning fire and brimstones against another sovereign State or recommend violence?

By the way where have you been?

K'olori d'ori e mu (make everibodi cova/take kia of eim head)!

One can only force a Donkey to the Waterside, but not to Drink.

In this World of ours, we Humans are essentially selfish Beings -

Only the Degrees of Selfishness varies between us all.

Maybe we should learn to speak from both sides of our mouths as well.

Even as we protect our interests as others like America do.

And who says we don't anyways, even as we keep mum over Mugabe.

In the interest of protecting the Black Man from "western hegemony".

Elemi ni o maa last, o'jare - it is the survival of the fittest o'jare!

America knows what she's doing - always taken care of herself first.

Unlike us giving Ghana electricity when we can't boast of 20,000MW

All in the name of being a Big Brother - who can't shower himself.

The sooner we got our acts right, the better for us all.

Auspicious.

Who made this requests or wishes of the Americans?

Who has expressed any displeasure with America's "terse" statements?

I dare you to name one person who has, Mr. Adujie..

I bet you you're gonna go:

Kwaaaaaa-kwa-kwa-kwa-kwa-kwa-kwa-kwa-Kwaaaaaa!

(Gosh I am laughing my balls off here!)

Auspicious.

What America, Britain, South Africa or any other country for that matter thinks is of no consequence. What matters is what I, a born and brought up Nigerian citizen thinks. And it is simple, OBASANJO AND CO MUST BE FORCED OUT AND THEIR HEAD DELIVERED TO US. What we need now is a credible leader of the revolution. The sin of Atiku is forgiven for showing us the light in the law. The sin of Babangida is forgiven for sparing us a blood shed by quitting the presidential race. The sin of Buhari is forgiven for showing us that a Nigerian can stay incorruptible. The sin of Kalu is forgiven for showing us that you can stand alone. If only Pat utomi will step up to the plate.......... then these other men can suffice because they are cleansed.
