Remembering Charles Alaba Joseph

Late Charles Alaba Joseph was my Brother, Nephew, Uncle, Cousin, Husband, Father, Friend, Colleague, Mentor, and Business Associate.

We remember Charles today 15th September, 2007 not just as the son of late Pa Evaristus Joseph and Late Chief Mrs Folushade Joseph, but as the man who lived for others. Why you might ask? I had the pleasure of interacting with people that I had no idea knew him. They spoke glowingly about him when he passed on and still do so today. He was a man that was filled with human kindness, indeed too kind to a fault. Do we miss him? Oh yes we do sorely miss him.

Like everyman of his age and generation he wanted the best for his family and friends. He had this innate passion for the Sector that was after his heart- Telecommunication. He set out to carve a niche for himself and make a difference. He was the Prseident/Ceo of MOBITEL LTD, President of ATCON (Association of Telecommunication Companies of Nigeria), and a Trustee of ALTON (Association of Licensed Telecommunication Operators of Nigeria).

He made a huge difference during his tenor, and we are thankful to God that the sector witnessed a lot of growth and improvement.

Even as we remember the ever smiling and hard working Charles, we also remember the shabbiness, failure and the ineptitude of the Former IGP (Inspector General of Police)(men in black), Mr Sunday Ehindero. Not only did he help in bungling a clear case of murder, he helped with the cover-up and closed the case file, claiming that our Charles died of Misadventure (fell and died). Well Mr Sunday Ehindero and the members of the Couldron-Table, remember that it is appointed unto man to die but once, after which Judgment…….death is a price that every man must face, when and where is what nobody knows. That which is hidden to man is not hidden to God. We leave you to continue to live with the knowledge of what went down.

As for me and my family, it is well. Today (and everyday) is a day of thanksgiving for us. We will continually lift up our voice to sing High praises to the most High God, for he alone is sure and worthy.

There will be a memorial Service at Holy Cross Cathedral(12.30pm) on the 14th Sept, 2007, whilst a Thanksgiving Service will be held in Canada on 15th Sept, 2007. We are indeed grateful to all family members, friends and associates for standing by us always. God bless you all.

Tributes from the Kids
CHARLES ALABA JOSEPH(The Greatest Dad)
Mobolaji Joseph

He was the greatest dad of all. He loved his family very much and makes time no matter how tight his schedule is to attend most reasoning sessions, be it with the teachers or the children.

It was hard for him to say no to me. It is very hard to say goodbye and I miss him every day of my life. I remember him in everything I do. All his life, he worked to give his children an education and I believe that is what all his hard work was for.

The last time I spoke to him, I had called to ask for advice and guidance for the choice of courses for my IB. He told me something that will stick with me forever. He told me to do what was easiest because the easy road in life is the safest(believe it or not), don’t be afraid to learn, knowledge is weightless, a treasure you can always carry- easily, and that what matters was me coming out at the top at the end of the day. Need I say more about my father’s wisdom?

We thank God for his faithfulness, his banner over us is love.

CHARLES ALABA JOSEPH (MY FATHER AND CONFIDANT)
Oyinkansola Joseph

My father was an astute businessman. He was a family man, who inspite of being busy due to his passion for Telecom still had time for my mum and us.

Though I spar with him often, he was my buddy. He was a kind and loving father. He made sure that we had the best of everything. He reached out to other people who were remotely related to us. I remember how he helped a woman and her kids when her purse that had her passport and other important documents was snatched from her. He met her at the Embassy weeping and nobody ready to help. He was waiting to see a Senior Embassy official. He had to intervene to get them to attend to her, and made sure that she got the help that she badly needed. I had the pleasure of meeting the woman and her husband when they came to our home in July 2005 to say thank you.

My Father valued friendship and forgives easily. His death is a painful loss to us. Humanity is indeed lost. Even as we remember my dad today, I pray and hope that I will be able to one day return to Nigeria and not give up on her.

CHARLES ALABA JOSEPH(AKA The Greatest Father and Friend Ever)
OLUMIDE O. JOSEPH

First and foremost he was a father, and no matter what anyone says he loved nothing more than his children. He always did everything in his power to make sure they are happy, comfortable and have decent education. Further more he was always helping people even when he wasn't getting along with them . When they needed help, he always did what was within his ability for them. Even if something seemed impossible, he always find a way to make it possible.

Secondly, he was a very kind and compassionate man, he might have seemed tough and strict on the outside but really he was the kindest man ever.

Another thing no one can argue is that no one i know was wiser than him in giving advice and directions. He propels your thoughts towards developing a positive attitude towards life and people. He gives talks/lectures that have substance. He was such a good public speaker. You might probably say that's why he was elected President of ATCON and returned to the same post several times over. He was able to build up the fortunes of Mobitel ltd to the point that the company was coveted by so many new Networks and Investors.

The reason why people would choose to take him away from us completely mystifies me. The only explanation i can offer is that the world is full of uncontented and greedy people, who we can do nothing but pray to God to purify their heart. I pray that God will help my family and friends get over the pain of his loss. May he give us the strength to forgive.
Please do remember us in prayers always!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

It is well, with my soul,
It is well, with my soul,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Smile, make them think you're happy
Lie, and say that things are fine.
And hide that empty longing that you feel
Don't ever show it, just keep your heart concealed.

Why are the days so lonely?
I wonder where, where can a heart go free?
And who will dry the tears that no one sees?
There must be someone to share your silent dreams.

Caught like a leaf in the wind
Looking for a friend, where can you turn?
Whisper the words of a prayer
And you'll find Him there, arms open wide, love in His eyes.

CHORUS
Jesus, He meets you where you are.
Oh, Jesus, He heals your secret scars
All the love you're longing for is Jesus
The friend of a wounded heart.

Joy, comes like the the morning
Hope, deepens as you grow
and peace, beyond the reaches of your soul,
Comes blowing through you, for love has made you whole.

Once like a leaf in the wind
Looking for a friend, where could you turn?
You spoke the words of a prayer
And you found Him there, arms open wide, love in His eyes.

CHORUS

Wayne Watson lyrics

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My dear,

You are in my prayers.
God has not brought you this far to leave you.
He will, definitely, perfect all that concern you and the children.

Remain strong!

My sister

Is it that time already, is it two years? Time does fly.

Listen my darling, God is on the throne, He is your strength and comfort. There is a hymn I love, the chorus goes thus;

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow, Because He lives, all fear is gone, Because I know He holds the future and life is worth living just because He lives.

My sister, He lives. All those responsible for this will pay because God is a God of justice, though it may tarry but it will surely come. Remain strong , On this day of his remembrance, I pray the good Lord to keep, protect, comfort and bless you and the family, may His peace be with you always and the words in Psalm 91 be your daily portion.

Mobolaji, Oyinkasola and Olumide always keep the memory of your father alive, make a success of your lives, do good to others . Do not hold on to bitterness, from what you have written of your father, he was not such a person. And I pray that the destiny which the Lord has for you all, you will reach in Jesus name.

A ye se ti wan ni o, olorun bo wa se ti e (the world has done theirs, God will do His)

My sister, it is well. Awon omo yi ti fe je’ n ma sukun ni bi. Eyin Alaba Joseph a da o, o jo a ji na si ra

Been two years since your loved one left

Truly, time doth pass ever so fleetingly..

But the memory of those we love remain.

We join you in remembering the Departed.

He may not be with you in person today,

But good memories of him remain alive.

Hold on to that - the joy of knowing him.

And relive memories of those good times.

Nothing can take all that good stuff away.

It's yours to cherish and nurture forever.

As for those who snuffed out the life in him,

And those who helped cover up their tracks,

They shall reap what they sowed in due time;

If not in this World, then in the next to come.

May Charles A. Joseph rest in peace.

Auspicious.

Sista:

I know that the Lord is your strength. He is more than able to keep you and your children. But then, I know that you know that.

I always marvel at the grace He has richly bestowed on you to be such a joy and a blessing to others, in spite of the worst. I am blessed by your infectious joy; I am blessed by your good character.

I leave you with the soothing words and admonitions of Psalm 37.

1 Do not fret because of evil men
or be envious of those who do wrong;

2 for like the grass they will soon wither,
like green plants they will soon die away.

3 Trust in the LORD and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.

4 Delight yourself in the LORD
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

5 Commit your way to the LORD;
trust in him and he will do this:

6 He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn,
the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.

7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when men succeed in their ways,
when they carry out their wicked schemes.

8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;
do not fret—it leads only to evil.

9 For evil men will be cut off,
but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land.

10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more;
though you look for them, they will not be found.

11 But the meek will inherit the land
and enjoy great peace.

12 The wicked plot against the righteous
and gnash their teeth at them;

13 but the Lord laughs at the wicked,
for he knows their day is coming.

14 The wicked draw the sword
and bend the bow
to bring down the poor and needy,
to slay those whose ways are upright.

15 But their swords will pierce their own hearts,
and their bows will be broken.

16 Better the little that the righteous have
than the wealth of many wicked;

17 for the power of the wicked will be broken,
but the LORD upholds the righteous.

18 The days of the blameless are known to the LORD,
and their inheritance will endure forever.

19 In times of disaster they will not wither;
in days of famine they will enjoy plenty.

20 But the wicked will perish:
The LORD's enemies will be like the beauty of the fields,
they will vanish—vanish like smoke.

21 The wicked borrow and do not repay,
but the righteous give generously;

22 those the LORD blesses will inherit the land,
but those he curses will be cut off.

23 If the LORD delights in a man's way,
he makes his steps firm;

24 though he stumble, he will not fall,
for the LORD upholds him with his hand.

25 I was young and now I am old,
yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken
or their children begging bread.

26 They are always generous and lend freely;
their children will be blessed.

27 Turn from evil and do good;
then you will dwell in the land forever.

28 For the LORD loves the just
and will not forsake his faithful ones.
They will be protected forever,
but the offspring of the wicked will be cut off;

29 the righteous will inherit the land
and dwell in it forever.

30 The mouth of the righteous man utters wisdom,
and his tongue speaks what is just.

31 The law of his God is in his heart;
his feet do not slip.

32 The wicked lie in wait for the righteous,
seeking their very lives;

33 but the LORD will not leave them in their power
or let them be condemned when brought to trial.

34 Wait for the LORD
and keep his way.
He will exalt you to inherit the land;
when the wicked are cut off, you will see it.

35 I have seen a wicked and ruthless man
flourishing like a green tree in its native soil,

36 but he soon passed away and was no more;
though I looked for him, he could not be found
.

37 Consider the blameless, observe the upright;
there is a future for the man of peace.

38 But all sinners will be destroyed;
the future of the wicked will be cut off.

39 The salvation of the righteous comes from the LORD;
he is their stronghold in time of trouble.

40 The LORD helps them and delivers them;
he delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
because they take refuge in him.

My sista, it is well.

Our God is the father for the fatherless, mother for the motherless, husband for the ‘husbandless’, and wife for the ‘wifeless’. Take heart my sister.

My Dearest Joseph Family,

I do not share a tear
I share a smile and all offerings of thanks and praise to
Lord the Almighty for bringing us all this far
despite the gulf.

May his soul rest in peace
And may he remain ever-green in our lives.

Thanks for sharing the commemoration
with me.

Signed
