I tire 4 all these big big zeros. Haba! 400+ million naira cheque to one person? So sick and tired of both OBJ and Atiku! This, in a country where there are thousands of kids hawking on the street daily just to make enough for the next day? Where almost nothing works-security, law enforcement, energy, roads, education....
Who will save us from this bleak future we've sowed?
Where are the real leaders?
Just so tired of it all. I think I'll take a break from Naija news at least till December when we'll know who the candidates for the various elective posts are.
Is it only me or does anyone else just secretly wishes that all of them corrupt sleazebag rulers would just suddenly drop dead a.k.a Abacha style. God dey! Make I return to my midnight fast and prayers again. enough is enough!

CORRUPTION : EFCC names 31 governors •15 in court next week

COSMAS EKPUNOBI, Abuja

CHAIRMAN of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Mr Nuhu Ribadu yesterday made startling revelation on how 30 serving governors and some former state chief executives allegedly connived with local government chairmen to loot the state treasuries.

EFCC boss told a stunned Senate that the commission had already established prima facia cases against 15 governors and unspecified number of council chairmen who will be arraign in court next week on corruption charges.

Mr Ribadu was at the Senate yesterday to brief the Upper House on the report of the commission on the alleged "monumental" corruption in Enugu State and other states wallowing in corruption.

The EFCC boss who stormed the chamber about 12 noon yesterday told the senate that 31 serving governors alleged to be involved in money laundering, diversion of council’s fund misappropriation of state fund are being investigated by the commission.

Top on the list of alleged corruption states are Abia, Benue, Enugu, Plateau, Edo, Lagos, Delta, Borno, Akwa Ibom, rivers, Imo, Ebonyi, Ogun, Adamawa, Kwara, Kogi, Kano, Kaduna, Sokoto, Zamfara, Nasarawa, Taraba, Bauchi, Ekiti, Osun, Anambra, Katsina, Jigawa, and Bayelsa.

According to him, the commission will next week arraign 15 serving governors on charges ranging from money laundering, diversion and embezzlement of state funds.

He said the former governors of Anambra, Kogi, and Kwara State, Dr Chris Ngige, Abubakar Audu and Mohammed Lawal still have some questions to answer. He told the Senate that one of the former governors had since disappeared from the country, adding that the commission was working with some relevant foreign agencies on his whereabouts.

EFCC explained that the investigation of 31 governors and council chairmen followed petitions against them.

He told the Senate that governor Chimaroke Nnamani and some of his aides allegedly involved in corrupt practices in the state will soon be prosecuted.

According to him, the commission had established Cases of contract intuition, diversion of council fund and disappearance of billions of naira from the state account.

He told the Senate how one of the order to the aides to the governor attempted the other N55 million bribe to officials of EFCC to stop the investigation into the alleged "monumental fraud" in Enugu state.

Naming of the corrupt states follow-up the submission yesterday by Senator David Mark, who said that it will be unfair to the same EFCC which has last year publicly named former Senate president, Chief Adolphus Wabara and other senators in N55 million bribe scam to still keep secret the name of corrupt governors.

It was at this point that the shout "name them name them" rented the air in the senate.

According to Ribadu, the commission’s investigation showed that most of the governors misappropriated both the state and council funds in connivance with the council chairmen.

Those senators who spoke yesterday however accused the EFCC of being selective in its fight against corruption. Senator wondered why the commission has not traced the source of the N50 million allegedly paid to each senators to support third term.

Ribadu in his response challenged the senators to come up with evidence to enable the commission issue more into action.

According to the EFCC officials are not magicians and can only act when a clue or petition on allegation of fraud.

Beside he told the Senate that the commission has no power to screen candidate for election, but emphasized that the report of the commission on some politicians may guide any relevant body involved in such exercise.

Senate president, Ken Nnamani asked the EFCC chairman to charge the affected serving governors and their states to court without further delay.

He said the senate and indeed the National Assembly will continue to encourage the EFCC in the war against corruption.

Nnamani, however, prevented the EFCC boss from naming the one single Nigerian he claimed was most corrupt person in the world.
