May I suggest three additional award categories - newspaper or media organization (in NIgeria) of the year, agency/commission (in Nigeria) of the year as as well NVS writer of the year. Thanks for your kind consideration, Uche and the Awards committee.

Is this a joke?

NVS (Political) Awards 2006 annouced on Dec 23, 2006 & nominations closes Dec 22, 2006.

5/7 awards dedicated to politicians.

The remaining 2 awards likely to go to politicians too.

Are politicians the only people that NVS celebate in Nigeria?

What about NVS award for the best Nigerain Scientist/Architect/Musician/Philantropist/NGO e.t.c.

I think it was available on the square b4 the 22nd. just not as an article.

I am not a big fan of these kind of awards, so my comments will come across negative. But ur questions were my thoughts when i first came across it earlier in the week.

The 2006 NVS Awards is a fantastic idea and we should all support it but the categories chosen and omitted for nominations runs counter to almost everything I thought the NVS stood for.
I have always viewed the NVS as a forum of the civil society of Nigerians mainly, albeit not in only in the Diaspora.
Your list completely leaves out
Nigerians in the Diaspora Main constituents of NVS
Professionals Back bone, hope ad pride of the Nigerian Society
NGOs Those who Give to and Care about Nigeria
Media Our source of information and watchdog of power
Feature writers They inform, challenge and entertain us.
Nigerian Activists Abroad They still find time and resources to actively care

Mazi Uche Something must be done.

• Nigerian Woman of the Year – The long-suffering Nigerian women
• Nigerian Politician of the Year –None that I know
• Nigerian Governor of the Year - None that I know
• Nigerian Minister of the Year - None that I know
• Nigerian Senator of the Year - None that I know
• Nigerian House of Representatives member of the Year - None that I know

Footnote: Better to say ‘None’ than scrap the bottom of the barrel, in a manner of speaking, for possible candidate.

Doc,
Prof Charles Soludo? Capital NO...........The Awardee must be someone balanced in all spheres..........Soludo is not, he turned the banking industry around and left many jobless, he should have created a buffer, if not for all but atleast for a chunky percentage!

Cheers,
Wale
