Colonialism Was Good For Africa

By Jan Lamprecht
Forwarded by Ugochukwu Ejinkeonye
Colonialism was the best thing that ever happened to Africa. Colonialism brought peace to the 300 warring tribes of Africa. Colonialism for Africa meant more development than it had ever known - before or after colonialism.

Colonialists brought far more into Africa than took out of it. It is for that reason that most world empires easily let go of the continent, with only white settlers opposing black rule. From London, Lisbon and Brussels, Africa is totally useless. Local white settlers understood the destruction the end of colonialism would bring into their lives, but for Europeans, colonialism was a waste of money and resources.

The standard of living in Africa under colonialism has not been matched even despite billions of dollars of annual aid to the continent from white countries.

Why is South Africa the powerhouse of Africa? Answer: More whites lived in South Africa than any place else, and white rule ended only 13 years ago.

As whites (and Asians) were kicked out, the continent's collapse accelerated. When Robert Mugabe took away farms and other property from Zimbabwean whites, he pulled the rug from under his country's economy. This year, inflation is expected to reach 4,000%.

Other excellent examples are: Mozambique and Angola.

Africais the richest continent on Earth when it comes to natural resources. Parts of Africa have staggering fertility. A friend of mine went to Rwanda. He told me the ground there is so fertile, the climate so wet and warm you can literally plant a stick anywhere and it will grow.

The question that must, therefore, be asked is: why are blacks starving in the land of milk and honey?

Why is Japan the 2nd richest nation on Earth and yet it has no natural resources, and is far from its suppliers and markets? Answer: The Japanese people.

Intelligent people achieve great things. That is why East Asia is doing so well (except for hardcore communist states such as North Korea). Clever people, even in unfavorable conditions, are capable of doing well.

Africa made two mistakes: (1) Expelling whites; and (2) adopting Socialist type models.

(1) White people are ingenious and hard-working. Their main contribution is ability to organize and that is what brought prosperity to Africa. Whites contribute out of all proportion to their small numbers.

(2) Blacks have been adopted by communists, Marxist, socialists, leftists and liberals - and most of these people believe in some form of government handouts and drive blacks towards socialism. Unfortunately communism doesn't work anywhere in the world - so why should it work in Africa?

The most successful experiment in black capitalism I've ever seen occured in the mid-1980's in South Africa under apartheid. President PW Botha changed laws and allowed a black taxi industry to exist. In my view it is the single most successful experiment in black capitalism that ever occurred on the face of this planet. That model, if expanded, upon could be the future of Africa and could provide hope for black people everywhere.

The problem is that blacks prefer the dreams of a socialist government giving them everything rather than working to improve their fate.

And whites are not the first to come here anyway. All across southern Africa is evidence of (Southeast) Indians sailing here and mining gold, hundreds of years before whites came. Indians came, mined gold and took it away. The Great Zimbabwe ruins is nothing more than an Indian temple built in Africa (as propounded in a recent theory by an academic in South Africa and shown to be consist with similar temples in India). Evidence of an Indian presence here is myriad.

Colonialism worked. Foreign aid has not.

Handouts to Africa achieved little or nothing and will continue to achieve little or nothng. Colonialism did what foreign aid cannot - run Africa efficiently.

Instead of pumping money into Africa, Europe pumped skilled people into Africa, who came and repeated in Africa what was done in Europe. By having them build and organise, as well as bring science and engineering, colonialists built Africa.

Anti-colonialism is leftist bunk that has now become agreed upon as the "politically correct" version of history.

Jan Lamprecht was born and raised in Zimbabwe, then called Rhodesia, during the "Bush War", which resulted in Robert Mugabe coming to power. He was educated in Harare, the capital of the country, before leaving for South Africa, where he spent some time in the Navy. He wrote a book called "Government by Deception" about African politics related to Zimbabwe and the effects Mugabe's policies may have on other countries. He publishes a newsletter called Straight Talk.

This article sounds clearly racist as the writer completely rubbishes the intelligence of an entire race without regard to successful empires and other organized states that existed in Africa prior to colonialism. HOWEVER, the facts are in his favor as Africa has failed woefully.

This should serve as call for all Africans to contribute in anyway to improve their lot. But my final message for the writer (and like I have told other racists I encounter) is that he dreams of a time that WILL NEVER RETURN.

This is quite easily the most racist, most mo-ronic and most retarded and most condescending article that I have ever read at this website!

This is is the most stench ever let loose by any writer! This is putrid, this is rancid writing! This is filthy writing

This writer and the article has no REDEEMING political, social, artistic value.... it has no value whatsoever, it is only intended to disparage, denigrate, provoke and inflame the emotions of all of us.... the readers.

MUST NVS allow this sorts of filth for publication? Would a Jewish media publish an obviously anti-Semite filth such as this article above?

I am almost certain that some twisted and warped Nigerian would soon come here and say.... Oh, it is objective, it is the truth and well, it ought to serve as catalyst and shock Nigerians and other Africans into action!

Why should this website give any audience to anyone who is advocating our re-colonization? Anyone who is praising Apartheid rule in South Africa?

Sad as it may sound but all the issues raised by the writer appear to be spot on. Take a look at the people running for elective offices in Nigeria (Akala and co) and tell me the people of Oyo state are going to have a better quality of life than those who lived in the state under the British.

Numerous examples abound all over the country, the British left us with a viable railway system, decent road networks, excellent schools, a disciplined armed force and a professional police. But what did we turn them into: A collapsed and out of date railways system, pothole ridden death traps called roads, one of the worst educational establishments in Africa, an army of thieves with a corrupt police force.

We lived under a constitution under the British and even the garrison commander of Ibadan testified to this (Macpherson, when he started politics as a thug for Awolowo's AG). But almost six decades after we have what looks like a constitution that the orisa in Aso rock will violate at will.

We held one of the best elections ever and cancelled it; a band of murdering teenager ran wild in Gombe and killed their teacher, even the principal handed her over to the blood thirsty vermin. People are killed for making their intent known that they wish to run for office to turn things around.

Governor’s wives take on the role of the deputy governor, while area boys take over the city centres.

Sad to come out with the truth, if we do not allow sensible ones amongst us to take over the reins of government then one day Nigeria will blow up and we can be rest assured that when it happens the French will ensure the war is contained within our crazy border and not allowed to spread to their colonies that border us in the North, East and West.

Then we will see the return of the new Colonialists under the UN after the warlords and garrison commanders must have had a field day. The writer might have expressed views which might bother on racism to some but to me he has hit the nail on the head, by alerting us of our nakedness

Mr. ILN,
Sock it and stop blowing hot air al over the square. If I, a Nigerian said the things that this racist scum have said above, will that make it more palatable to you or will that make it less of the truth? Yes, he is racist and a despicable person but also YES! YES! and YES!, he is saying the Godamn, very painful truth. Get that through your skull. Rail against him all you want but if we had our acts together, he would have no basis for his comments. You don't read him making such comments against asians do you?

When all these dirty racist that wished they never lost Africa talk all they remember is the woes. They tend to forget their own past that was more battered than Africa`s past.Where the pre-colonial wars in Africa worse than the wars characters like Napoleon and Bismarck engaged Europe in?

Why does`nt he see the success stories like Botswana that has been successful for over three decades under Black rule?

What about the Black government in South Africa that has managed to push through a level of economic growth that was unattainable under White minority misrule.

Why did he forget the role of questionable figures like Mrs.Thatcher`s son in much of the misrule many African countries are facing.

There were several organized kingdoms in Africa prior to colonialism but the racist would not take note.

Colonialism was certainly good to Mr Lamprecht. For the Nigerians that are not sure, you might need to help to arrive at clarity:

In 1960 there were about 50 Secondary Schools and 3 Universities in Nigeria. They were not free. If you could afford the University fees you had to be academically brilliant to secure one of the few spaces or be wealthy enough to go to overseas. The graduates of these 3 universities did not really have any sterling prospects outside the civil service. That is why many of them became Journalists and published Newspapers. Nigeria was better of than a lot of other countries, for instance, DRC(former Zaire) had 19 University graduates at independence. Apparently life was so good the natives decided not to even bother with education. In 2007 there are about 50 Universities in Nigeria alone.

Prior to 1960 very few babies were delivered in Hospitals. If you had childbirth complications, you were in God's hands. Pre-natal care? Maybe for the rich elite, both colonials and natives. If you lived in a village and fell with with an illness that could not be cured with traditional herbs your chances of survival were closed to zero.

Prior to 1960 it is doubtful Nigeria had close to 1 million Bicycle owners, talk less of over 5 million registered vehicles. It seems colonial overlords do not pay well. Few towns were wired for electricity, those outside the grid could not afford generators or even the fuel to put in them.

In colonial times, there were few tarred roads. They tended to be on the route to the GRA's, Ikoyi, Country Clubs, and Colonial Offices. The expressways in Nigeria were not built by the British. Their superb public works consists of the Carter Bridge, Niger Bridge, and the crossing at Lokoja. Nigeria covered approximately the same land mass in 1960.

Here is a picture that shows how good Africans had it in 1951, a picture says a 1000 words.

this guy is a joke.

I say, why dont you talk about the corrupt dictators Europe have forced upon africa. Why dont we talk about the mobutus , the bongos, the eyademas and the bokassas. theiving tyrants who were fully supported by our so called caring colonialists.

how many villas did mobutu have in belgium alone ???? 9!!!!!!!!!!!! . how many billions did abacha have stashed away in swiss bank accounts ? close to 3 billion dollars !!!!

Enough with the hypocrisy.

the same Europeans who claim they care about good governance in africa are the same Europeans who will provide support to the most brutal and corrupt dictators in africa.

Africa doesnt need "friends" like that.

You claim Africa is useless to Europeans but why is it that you Europeans are still heavily invested both politically and economically in Africa? Why do the French still maintain troops in their former colonies? Why do they still interfere in the politics of these countries ??

You my friend need to stop and think.
