As Nigerians in 20 countries across the globe protest today to demand for a probe into the maltreatment and subsequent killing of a Nigerian,Osamuyia Aikpitanhi, by Spanish security operatives aboard an Iberia Airline aircraft on June 9, the Federal Government has ordered investigations into the matter.

Nigerian Tribune on Thursday gathered that the government, through the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) while awaiting the report of the commission of enquiry set up by the Spanish government on the case, had ordered the Nigerian embassy in Spain to equally investigate the matter.

According to a top officer in the authority, the government gave the order in writing through the NCAA to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nigerian embassy in Spain for action.

Aikpitanhi was said to have been beaten, bound hand and font and gagged on board an Iberia flight bound for Lagos. He died shortly after the plane left Spain.

Today’s march is being organised by a group called Concerned Nigerians Worldwide[CNW].

Very good beginning for Yar'Adua's govt. It's about time Nigerian life is valued.

Thank God our government seem to have woken up from slumber. The public outcry spearheaded by NVS etc seem to be yielding results. Mr Go-Slow may really be a listening and servant-leader like he said.

This is good. I just wish it didn't take all the outcry from NVS for the government to respond.
The government should be leading the people in matters like this and the people then should follow. Haba!

Without NVS this would have been impossible; God bless the initiator of NVS don’t relent in your effort as the monetary consideration is just by the corner. Like the bible says the soul of those who water shall be watered too. Unlike school teachers your reward will be both on earth and in heaven.

It is heartening to know that our government is after all alive to its responsibilities, especially to its people.

May God bless NVS and its initiators and all the guys on this forum!

If not for NVS that championed this cause our government wouldn't have done anything. They're supposed to have summoned the Spanish Ambassador in Nigeria to give explanations to this inhuman act by security operatives of his country. Shame on our so called leaders. How can all these countries respect us and take us serious with this kind of attitude by our government. Almost two weeks after the incident they're giving order to investigate the death of Osamuyiwa Aikpitanhi.

Na wa for our people O!
