The Persecution Of Ndigbo:Indiscriminate Massacre Of Purported MASSOB Members Print E-mail
Saturday, 17 June 2006

I, and I believe so many other Igbo and Nigerians for that matter are beginning to come to the conclusion, that getting justice in Nigeria is impossible without a fight. My conscience and humanity has been constantly assaulted by the monumental and open injustices going on in Nigeria.

As I am writing, the Nigerian Police and SSS have started a   wholesale arrest and massacre of thousands of Igbo youth they claim to be MASSOB members. The frequent method of violence and extrajudicial killings employed  by the Nigerian security services against Nigerians is legendary. If a comprehensive list of all the massacres including Odi and Zaki-Biam carried out in the 7 years of Obasanjo’s “military democracy” is made public, it would become clear that the Nigerian state has Surpassed Apartheid South-Africa in the ritual massacre of   her citizens.

A Nation Without Conscience

MASSOB is a non-violent organisation legitimately protesting the unprecedented marginalization of Ndigbo in Nigeria. (Marginalization is real, but I will leave that for another day) Self determination is a human right, recognised by the United Nations Charter. Insofar as MASSOB activists are non- violent the federal government has no right to launch such a violent crackdown on a non-violent organisation. Indeed even if they are violent, the security services have a duty to prove the membership of arrested individuals before a court of law.

The Nigerian state encourages violence, and takes pleasure in the rape and massacre of her own people. It should be noted that it took a robust armed struggle by MEND, before the federal Government announced a Marshall plan for the Niger-Delta, even then as part of their marginalization policy, the 2 oil producing Igbo states of Imo and Abia states were conveniently excluded from this initiative.

If a marriage is failing, the clear option is divorce. Nigeria as a marriage of different ethnic groups has failed; there has been no indication that those who represent the Nigerian state are willing to dialogue, to redress the injustices in the polity. Rather like the late Slobodan Milosevic the Nigerian state believes they can continue to hold the monumentally unjust Apartheid nation together by force, but history suggests otherwise.

Milosevic’s Serbia has continued to crumble like a pack of cards the latest being the newly independent Montenegro.

No nation can be held together indefinitely by force. The people must be willing to be part of a nation, for a nation to survive, and the only way to achieve that, is by enthroning justice, and fairplay.

The truest and greatest enemies of Nigeria, who go about cutting peoples throat in the name of religion in this day and age in the North are ignored, while the security services pounce on a non-violent organisation because they are Igbo. These double standards will only serve to push more Igbo to extremism, and let me warn that if Nigeria pushes Ndigbo to another war, this time a “Guerrilla campaign” Nigeria can never win the war, and will never come out of it intact. Ndigbo have fought before, and will fight again if necessary to preserve their dignity and humanity.Under-estimating Ndigbo will be a grave mistake. The scenario in Iraq should be an eye opener.

Obasanjo has been a victim of injustice under General Sanni Abacha, but obviously he has learnt no lessons, as he continues to sponsor injustice against others even while claiming to be born again. (Born again my arse).

I want to use this opportunity to warn President Olusegun Obasanjo, Inspector General of police Sunday Ehindero, SSS Director Col.Kayode Are, the Onitsha Police area commander  Mathew Uyanna, and the Awka Police area commander Umar Gwadabe that the world is watching and keeping records of the mindless massacres of innocent non-violent civilians they are spearheading in Igboland.  Just like Charles Taylor, they should know that they will be made to pay for their crimes against humanity, sooner or later.

Students Burn Hostel Over Alleged Blasphemy

One of the hostels of Government College, Keffi in Nasarawa State was yesterday learnt by persons suspected to be students protesting an alleged statement made by teacher considered to be blasphemous on Prophet Mohammed.

The Guardian learnt that the incident started on Wednesday when one of the students came late for an afternoon English class. It was alleged that when the class teacher queried the student for his lateness, he was said to have replied that he went to the mosque to pray. The teacher, reportedly not finding the excuse tenable insisted on punishing the student with a reply that even Prophet Mohammed would sanction him for not doing theright thing.
The student, The Guardian learnt, went to his colleagues and reported to them the teacher to them knowing the sensitivity of the subject. His fellow students immediately reported the matter to the school patron, who in turn informed the principal school.
When the report got to the Principal, he promptly set up a panel to investigate the allegation. But the Moslem students became inpatient with the process and on Thursday a riot broke out and the protesters made for the official residence of the teacher and burnt it down. The teacher and his family however escaped unhurt.
As early as 6am, yesterday, the students joined by other hoodlums from Keffi invaded the school and began to set its structures ablaze.
One of the hostels was completely burnt before rescue came from the police. While trying to disperse from the school, a police inspector was said to have shot one of them on the foot.
Confirming the incidence yesterday in his office in Lafia, the Nasarawa State Police Commissioner, Mr. Hadi Mohammed Zarewa, said the school had been shut down and that the arrested. "He made an unguarded statement which we are investigating and if we find him guilty, we will charge him to court," the police boss said.

So,let me set the record straight once and for all, frankly speaking, i'm for homogenous nations, people can interact on areas where they derive maximal mutual benefits, what we do now is just patch work and it cant work, mark my words for that!

For beginners, as we defend criminality and tribal jingoism, we must remember that we owe at least ourselves true conscience.

You said Imo and Abia are not covered in the political expression called the Niger-Delta. That is certainly not true. The states are duly recognised, covered and even have representatives on NDDC and enjoy the derivation dividends allocated annually to those oil producing states.

Please visit:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niger_delta

and

http://www.nddconline.org/The_Board/photos.shtml

If there is a problem which MASSOD is pursuing, it should stick to it and not on some far-fetched sentimental issue you are raising.

As for the story on the present problem, please visit the under served link as make your assessment:

http://www.punchng.com/main/article01

Please always remember that ICT has now made it easy to verify claims.

Lets us love our nation.

To the guy who added to this thread the unfortunate problem in Keffi

I for one as a Muslim and a Northerner feels appalled, disappointed and ashamed by that incidence. Worse still the Commissioner of Police (his names fits well the sentiment, as it is northern and Islamic) who made a statement to the effect that the... (note missing word) is arrested and would be charged to court for making an unguarded statement. That missing word, gives an impression that the teacher has been arrested and would face the law.

The way some people interprete staements against the Prophet (Peace be Upon him) as blasphemy, deserving of murder is sad. The Prophet even in his life has never raised his arm or voice against personal verbal or even physical attacks.

There are Hadiths that speak of how the Prohet passes a particular house daily in Makkah on his way to the mosque and the owner of the house (a non-muslim) will throw garbade on his path. The Prophet will simply avoid it and continue with his business. There came a time when the Prophet noticed over a period that adverse action had stopped. He got curious and asked and was told that the man had died. The Prophet broke his journey in saddness and entered the family's house condoled them and prayed for the man's soul.

As Muslims, we must remember that the Prophet has asked us not to take actions even in his name so as not to diefy him. Is that not why he refused for his image to be created for fear he will be worshipped like Allah himself? So, where does this violence over perceived insult on the Prophet come from? Which chapter of the Quran of Hadith is that from?

It is the Prophet himself who said the Muslim must not even be seen to be arguing in public. Soo, how comes we are resorting to violence over oppurtunities to showcase our humility and tolerance culture?

It is us Muslim that are demanded to respect and uphold the dignity of our Prophet. As for our fellow non-beleiver beings, we have been requested to live with them in peace, fairness and respect, so that they can also visit same on us and our religion.

Islamic scriptures are repleat with admonishing of Muslim to avoid 'Fitnah' (trouble/instability generating issues/actions).

But then I wonder why those of us as Muslims who know the revered position of Prophet Isa (Alaihis-Salam) - Jesus Christ, in Islam, yet have not joined our Christian brothers and sisters to protest the 'blasphemous' movie Davinci Code? Or is that not fight enough?

I please emplore my fellow Muslims who are better informed on the basis of knowledge and devotion to forgive and correct me on this matter, where I have eered. As Allah know's best.

Back to the Keffi problem, my submission is that the students and their hoodlum counterparts from the Keffi town are the ones to be dealth with according to the law. As for the teacher, the school has the immediate responsibility of investigation and disciplinary action. So, the school principals board should be allowed to conclude its assignment and not engineered by the violence that ensued.

This kind of reaction by the contributor of the thread may make some people to conclude that the teacher is Igbo and he is being persecuted in the North (as usual). The usual revenge backlash that will follow, you know as well as I do.

Lastly, please remove that 'devil' thing you have as your icon. If its not your 'belief' or 'religion' (which then I would respect as your right). This is because 'minors' do visit this Blog. This I beg you.

Let us please be careful and responsible.

Long live, Nigeria.

People MASSOB is being given a bad name in other to kill it, to the extent that the so called security forces commit crimes, like that of setting fire on Zik's home on fire and blaming it on MASSOB. Where is the due process in all these actions by the forces?

Some youths from Agbo, Ahaba, Onicha, Owere, Aba, Umuahia, Calabar, Abakiliki are included as victims of the report above. Reports from home says that they were arrested by the security forces, beaten mercilessly and dispersed to unknown prisons all over Nigeria so that their people will not be able to find them. It is not known whether they are alive or dead. Their relatives are getting the reports here in diaspora. Those they carter for, are now left in hunger and suffering and they are in turn crying out to their relatives in diaspora for help. You will neither find these reports in Lagos-Ibadan press nor in BBC because they don't care about what happens to any Igbo or sympathiser of Igbo. When their Baba feels the shame of his failure in office he leashes out the security operatives to go on such rampages.

Those who are proposing romance among Nigerians should remove their head from the sand and see the reality on the ground. Will they speak up now or keep their utopian dreams to themselves? Would those who chose to publicize those dreams on all websites do the same to this report, if they are sincere in their so called aspiration for harmony among all Nigerians? If they do not, then theirs will remain shame, shame and nothing but shame.

Igbo so called elite, where are you?? One of the reports includes that a twelve year old
boy was short by the police in Aba sometime ago for possessing Biafran flag. What is that?

Well said, Tsohon Soja..well said. It will great if we find many more
of your Faith speak in the same vein you do - to condemn/caution
those who commit heinous attrocities in the name of a faith many
say is a peaceful one.

It will also be great, if we find within the rank and file of those who
agitate for self-determination, people who will only speak after
they get their facts right - to avoid igniting inflammable issues
around us.

Yes, you are right: "as we defend criminality and tribal jingosim, we
must remember that we owe at least ourselves true conscience."

God bless Nigeria.

Said the author:

If I may humbly ask, can the author can provide us with the source of
that information? Or did he witness the "arrest and massacre" he talked
about in his article? See, it's not a matter of whether one believes you
or not, it's just that such story will have more credibilty if it is supported
with proof.

Those who hear about crimes against humanity sponsored by the State, a state with a history of such barbaric acts and ask for proofs and “URL’s” are just as guilty as the trigger happy murderers, perpetrators and their sponsors.

This much is certain: one day the murderers will come for you or your loved ones and you and they too will meet the same fate. You may want to understand that the crab mentality which has dominated the mind of the average Nigerian will not go away anytime soon, a sure indicator that the barbarism is not about to stop. Unless if you and your kind are willing to play dead and not have any resolve to free yourselves from the yoke of oppression represented by the current environment, only then can you be assured that the crab mentality, which abhors creativity, self effort, personal achievement and self-assertiveness (I am) will spare the miserable life extended to you by the status quo.

The current theatrical act (reality show, actually), is reminiscent of the allegory of the house nigger and the slave laborer. The slave laborer is out in the hot sun slaving all day and angling for ways to secure his freedom by killing the master slaver or running away while the house nigger is willing to lay his life on the line to protect “our house”, the status quo. He is willing and eager to tell the Master on the slave laborers escape plans to curry favors from the Master. He is too willing to bow down, prostrate and dance a jiggle for second hand clothes from the Master, which makes him look outlandish, however, he is too myopic and too feminine to see himself as the buffoon he truly is. He is afraid to stand up for himself and be accountable to himself. He does not have any confidence about his manhood. He can’t imagine life outside of “our house”.

Off course, sooner or later, the master will sell him off in addition to the periodic floggings for any iota of indiscretion, including a mere look at the lily white one.

Carry on!

Tsohon Soja:

Nice try, unfortunately, that is window dressing as you are preaching to the wrong crowd. You should direct such publication to Gamji, The Mosque up North, BBC Hausa Language, This Day and various publication up North.
Having said that , It is still a good try. You however tried to destroy it, by being patronizing especially the one about the "Davici code" thing. That in itself is very pedestrian as we all know christains, buddist, hindus, shango...etc do not give a f--k what anyone says about their God. You could literarily walk into a church right now and abuse the s--t out of Christ and the worst you would be faced with is astonishment and surprise.
So trying to equate comments from a handful of so called christains about davici code to repeated morbid destruction by muslim fanatics and active or passive endorsement of such by the so called "silent peaceful muslim" majority, just rendered your writeups above as insincere and grossly patronizing.

Apparently it turns out that this so called banning of "the davinci code" was/is a government bureaucracy thing and has nothing to do with religious groups.

Looks like some bureucrates(probably muslims) are trying to force controvercy where non exist thereby giving them room to draw parallels between islamic criminality.

Nigeria may ban the anti-Christ movie 'Da Vinci Code'
Olumide Iyanda,Group Life Editor, Aramide Oikelome and Rafiu Ajakaye

•It’s Unnecessary –Xtian Leaders • Movie, Sin Against Allah –Muslim Clerics

The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) may ban the controversial movie, Da Vinci Code, a film adopted from a book of the same title written by Dan Brown, an English teacher and American citizen.

advertisement

Already, Silverbird Cinemas and Nu Metro in Lagos have announced that the Board had directed them to suspend further showing of the movie.

The film, which has sold over 40 million copies since its release in the U.S. on May 19, 2006, is based on a fictitious story that Jesus Christ was married to Mary Magdalene and that Jesus was not the Son of God. It also questions resurrection, the Holy Trinity and suggests that Mary was the person entrusted with the church rather than Peter as the head of the apostles.

The NFVCB, which had earlier given its nod to the film, decided to have a second look at it following outcries from the public who wrote to the Board condemning the exhibition of the film in the two highbrow cinema houses. But Rev. Father Felix Ajakaye, Director of Social Communication, Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria was however against the idea of the Censors Board banning the film.

Ajakaye in an interview with Saturday Independent said that the Da Vinci Code is a fabrication, a story. "It is not in very good taste and it tends to portray a hidden agenda. In spite of this, I do not support the idea of the Censor’s Board banning it. By doing this, the Da Vinci Code is being made more popular and people will be excited to know why it is being banned and this will encourage wider interest.

" One may ask, why is the Censor’s Board banning it now, particularly when people are already in possession of it? There is need for caution in acting on this issue. The Da Vinci Code is a fiction. People’s faith can never be shattered just because some individuals are out to use their talents to scatter instead of gather".

In his own reaction, the Most Revd. Sunday Makinde, Bishop of Lagos Archdiocese, said that the film would not lead Christians to take up arms against anybody.

"The truth is that Jesus died, was crucified and resurrected over 2000 years ago. Nobody can deny that fact. Nobody can deny the sonship of Jesus. He is the son of God, the Messiah. That is already established and cannot be changed. Again, there is no way such a film can cause riot. Christians are different from others. We are not contentious people. Over the years, those who oppose Christianity have tried many things but failed. They tried persecution, Christianity has not died. They tried blasphemy, it has not changed anything.

"The blood of martyrs are still crying before God. So, no blasphemy as reported in this film can change the Lordship of Jesus Christ. In spite of any blasphemy, more miracles will be seen. There is no need to ban it. In fact, there is nothing to worry about. Jesus Christ is Lord any day, anytime".

In his own reaction, Dr. Abdur-Rahman Ahmad—National Missioner of Ansar-Ud-Deen Islamic Society of Nigeria and spokesman of South-West Muslims said that muslims are fully in support of the ban.

My Comment: Muslims crying more than the berieved?

His words: "We solidly support the ban of the film by the Censors Board. The film in question is not Islamic. It is totally against Islamic doctrine because the religion frowns at any statement that blasphemes the prophets of Allah. And Jesus is a Prophet of Allah".

But speaking with Saturday Independent on Thursday, the Director-General of NFVCB, Emeka Mba, confirmed that his office has withdrawn the approval it earlier gave to the movie. According to him, "we had a cause to do that after we received series of protest concerning the movie".

The film, which was released last month, has generated so much controversy all over the world. In Egypt, the culture minister vowed during the week to ban it for insulting religion and said that he would pull the Arabic translation of the novel from stores.

Farouk Hosni told parliament he had told the movie censorship board not to allow copies of the Hollywood hit into the country "because it insults religions, and what is blasphemous to Jesus Christ is considered insulting to Islam as well."

That is the same sentiment expressed by Mba who said the Board had received complaints from both Christians and Muslims. "Very many people feel strongly about the content of the movie. I’ve looked at it myself and have seen the wisdom in withdrawing its approval.

"This is not a clampdown on freedom of expression but we do not want to encourage anything that would ridicule other people’s faith. We must apply the same rigour we use in classifying our local films to the ones brought from other countries," Mba said.

The edict setting up the Board permits it to take a second look at a film it had earlier censored if it is in the public interest.

While Mba said the Board has not taken a final decision on the film, a source in the agency told Saturday Independent that the film might eventually be banned.

The Supreme Court in India has decided that it is a work of fiction and can't be banned but many in Pakistan and some other countries are considering a total ban.

The 149-minute film by Sony Pictures carries a warning at the beginning and the end alerting viewers of disturbing images, violence, some nudity, thematic material, brief drug references and sexual content.

Meanwhile roadside hawkers in Nigeria are selling the pirated copies of the film readily and investigations indicate there is a high demand for it.

All these so called controversy is being caused by muslims and not christains. christians, don't give a f------u----c----k!
