The Logic For Nigeria's Disintegration Print E-mail

In life, the only thing that is permanent is change, thus by 1991 against all imaginable odds, nuclear armed Soviet Union the 2nd most powerful nation in the world disintegrated after a union of over 70 years and in its place over 14 relatively homogenous nations emerged, some with a population of less than 1 million. Other nations i.e. Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia etc have since suffered the same fate. In Asia, East Timor a nation of just about a million people recently gained independence from Indonesia, and in Africa Southern Sudan is scheduled to have an independence referendum in 2011 which is no doubt going to become a catalyst for the independence of many other African nations, just like the independence of Ghana from great Britain in 1957 became a catalyst for other African nations and opened the flood gates of decolonisation.

With the recent elections in Kosovo which was won by an ex rebel leader Hashim Thaci, Kosovo is set to declare independence some time in December. Even in nations as advanced and prosperous as Belgium, the United Kingdom, Spain etc various groups, notably the Scots in the United Kingdom, the Basque in Spain and the Flemish in Belgium are increasingly agitating for independence. This to a large extent is proof that ultimately, most relatively homogenous groups will in due course seek self rule. In the next two decades, it is predicted that more than 40 newly independent nations will emerge.

As Nigeria, an unworkable, crassly evil, genocidal, poverty stricken pseudo-nation in spite of enormous resources continues to stutter, it is important that the so called Nigerians trapped within the evil confines of such a hopeless edifice begin to think outside the box. The call for disintegration is not out of hatred, it is rather out of realism, to save the eternally warring groups, the agony of endless strife, monumental poverty and eventual violent collapse.

One of the greatest Nigerian untold secrets and ironies is that even the leaders themselves do not believe in Nigeria. They come to power to milk, loot and systematically destroy the nation.Reflect and ask yourself these questions: Would leaders who believe in Nigeria neglect the roads in their own nation, and instead loot state funds and cart the money away to foreign nations?

Would leaders who believe in Nigeria neglect the hospitals in their nation and rather choose to patronise hospitals in foreign lands?

Would leaders who believe in Nigeria neglect the schools in their nation, and send their children to schools in foreign lands?

Would leaders who believe in Nigeria buy homes in well organized foreign nations while neglecting their own nation?

Would leaders who believe in Nigeria sponsor the killing of other Nigerians for a cartoon published in Denmark?

Would leaders who believe in Nigeria send troops to wipe out whole communities as they did in Odi and Zaki Biam for protesting injustice? I can go on and on to establish that the Nigerian leaders themselves are held hostage by the ethnic and religious contradictions that has rendered Nigeria unworkable. As their actions have attested, they have no iota of belief in Nigeria, they are only benefiting from the national cake while it lasts.

Possible Nations From The Ashes Of Nigeria:

A friend of mine, an Isoko chap from Delta state came back from a trip to Dubai and was full of tears. He was literarily blinded by the development in Dubai and the pace of continuing development. There is currently an ultra ambitious plan to build a city on the sea in Dubai, amongst so many other dizzying and breathtaking projects. Though an Islamic state, their taste for modernity knows no bounds. He was also shocked at the sense of dignity and pride demonstrated by the Arabs in Dubai that has propelled them into jealously developing their homelands, and undertaking such lofty unbelievable projects, amongst them the tallest building on the planet.

I laughed and simply told him that what he saw in Dubai is possible in an independent Delta republic, if only he and his people will fight to yank off the internal colonisers that has held Nigeria down. Many Southern Nigerians have tragically accepted their fate in a cursed nation such as Nigeria that has held its people in slavery and proven to be just an extension of the colonial government even while their natural resources feed their oppressors. Employing colonial “Lugardist” methods, the new internal colonisers have held the nation down in a quasi-apartheid system that has used brutal repression, divide and rule tactics and corruption to maintain their grip in an unworkable nation.

Like sheep to the slaughter or the proverbial house slave, many Southern Nigerians have refused to see any possibilities outside the Nigerian box. But those in the former Soviet union, Yugoslavia etc which were even functional nations with relative prosperity not in the least to be compared with the rot in Nigeria, saw the possibilities of more progress outside the Soviet and Yugoslavian box and took it, today those new nations some with a population of less than 1 million people are better off than they could ever have been had they chosen to remain under the slavery of their erstwhile pseudo nations.

In presenting the case for the independence of homogenous ethnic groups and related peoples let me briefly animate my own observations in the study of “the law of homogenous species.”

Travelling is a great form of education for those who chose to learn from it (not those who have been taken out of the jungle, but who have continued to nurture the jungle within). My trip to the Kenyan game reserves brought me face to face with certain laws of nature which has continued to influence me to date. Before my very eyes amongst the animals I saw the law of homogenous species on display. I noticed that each distinct group of animals flocked religiously together. Zebras flocked together, Hyenas flocked together, Lions flocked together etc. Indeed we all remember that as children we were constantly reminded that birds of the same kind and feather flock together without considering the true meaning and wider implications. Animals are so religiously strict in their respect for the laws of nature that distinct groups in their natural state without any outside factors would never mix with other groups.

My observation in the Kenyan game parks gave me a better understanding of the most important reason why Nigeria has failed, and why smaller homogenous nations can succeed.

The Ijaw Nation:

The Ijaw are culturally rich and a very industrious people, mostly inhabiting a challenging terrain. They achieved the almost impossible feat of conquering the sea and bringing it to their service. With a rich lineage and dynasty of kings and Queens who established important trading contacts with Europeans centuries ago. Coming into contact with Nigeria has arrested the development of a once proud Ijaw nation which would have rivalled or probably surpassed the initiatives we see in Dubai.

I believe that it is important even now for the Ijaw to think outside the box and struggle to have an independent Bayelsa nation that will stretch to contiguous Ijaw speaking areas of Delta state, Rivers state etc Such a homogenous oil rich nation has the potential to become one of the richest nations in the world, with Yenagoa as a scenic well planned garden city, also doubling as a major African financial centre.

Delta republic:

This same plan holds true for a potential Delta republic, hosting the Urhobo, Isoko who are a related homogenous group and possibly the Itshekiri. The Urhobo, Isoko are a fiercely proud and enterprising people whose development has been arrested by contact with Nigeria. Delta republic can have a federal union to accommodate marginal diversity that exists within its union and allow the few distinct groups within the union to develop at their own pace. In a smaller nation like Delta state a more equitable power sharing arrangement will subdue the marginal diversity that exists. For example an Urhobo president might have an Itshekiri vice-president, an Isoko senate president, an Itshekiri speaker of the house of reps. An Isoko Chief of Army Staff, an Urhobo chief of air staff, an Itshekiri inspector general of police etc. ministerial lists, Ambassadorial postings, board appointments etc will also be shared exclusively among the federating units etc. These positions that are being scrambled for in present day Nigeria, with the minorities getting next to nothing will be perpetually theirs to keep in their own independent Delta republic.

Edo republic:

A great people with a proud history of empires and kings that famously fought the British invaders to a standstill. An indomitable nation blessed with an ambitious, adventurous and hardworking people. Like others, contact with Nigeria has arrested their development. But an Edo republic has the potential of becoming one of the richest nations in the world through prudent management of massive human and material resources.

Oduduwa republic:

A highly civilised, urbane, culturally rich, industrious and accommodating people, and a showcase of religious tolerance, the Yoruba nation needs no introduction to her potentials. The massive developmental exploits of the Western region in the first republic is enough evidence of what astounding progress lies ahead of an independent Oduduwa republic. With an abundant human and material resource base, and a massive pool of Diaspora based experts in different fields of human endeavour an Oduduwa republic freed from the contradictions of Nigeria, is potentially one of the worlds richest nations.

Arewa republic:

Arewa comprises the North, and represents the group that has imposed themselves as the new internal colonisers on other Nigerian’s and increased policies and injustices that has over the years exacerbated Nigeria’s contradictions, and engendered an unworkable nation, enmeshed in unending strife, frequent ethno religious bloodletting, dysfunctional infrastructure, and above all, grinding poverty in spite of abundant human resources.

But in all this, the North has paradoxically lost as well, as contact with Nigeria and all the attendant contradictions, fears and suspicions, has arrested their potential to develop their indigenous economy which they did so well in the 1st republic with their groundnut pyramids, religion, and culture. Today the North is caught in a web of poverty, illiteracy and strife as a result of the ever so present Nigerian factor. An independent Arewa Without Nigeria will be able to achieve relative peace and stability, give them the opportunity to pursue their religion i.e. Sharia without any impediments, develop an agricultural economy, and even become a major producer and exporter of alternative fuel by massively cultivating the Jatropha plant that is a ready source of alternative energy. (www.jatropha.org) which has the potential to create great prosperity in the Arewa nation.

Biafra:

The Biafran struggle to create an independent, all Christian,  homogenous  nation, free of the enormous contradictions of Nigeria needs no introduction. It has been ongoing since 1967. In due course I will publish a comprehensive blueprint and working paper on “the roadmap to Biafra.”

Conclusions:

There are many compelling reasons for Nigeria’s disintegration. Except a miracle allows the rogue leaders to radically restructure the nation, Nigeria has failed irretrievably. Some people are attracted to Nigeria’s size, but of what benefit has Nigeria’s size been to the poverty stricken masses? Wouldn’t it be better to have smaller more manageable and prosperous nations? Many small nations around the world i.e. Switzerland, Singapore, Belgium, Luxembourg etc are models of prosperity. Even in Africa smaller nations i.e. Togo, Gabon, Republic of Benin, Ghana, Gambia, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Botswana etc enjoy more functional prosperous societies with regular electricity, water supply, healthcare etc compared to the rot and chaos in Nigeria. Besides Nigeria’s size is a myth in the real sense. How many Southerners for example, can live in Sokoto or Kano and feel safe enough to call it home? Size alone hardly makes a nation. Neither Japan, France, Germany, nor even the United Kingdom is half the size of Nigeria, yet these nations are some of the richest and most powerful in the world

It is thus important that we think outside the box, face the reality and act sooner rather than later as civilised persons for once to peacefully tear down this unworkable hellish contraption. The right to self determination is a fundamental right enshrined in the United Nations charter. In due course, as the geo-politics of the world continues to change, I expect the same measure that led to the disintegration of the erstwhile Soviet union and other Balkan nations would be applied to carve out many new nations from Nigeria nay Africa.

Long live the new nations!

Chinedu,
Your article is very important. It is an insight into a near everlasting solution to the problematic status quo of Nigeria. Villagers seem afraid to comment. That not withstanding, be rest assured that what you have written on the web has flashed through the minds of Nigerians. While it scares some, it is a hope for relief for others. Either way what will be will be.

I am already billed to travel to Nigeria to start Jatropha cultivation and discusions with SHEDA Abuja on biomass conversion. It is a new research 4 development field with a potential to curtail Nigeria's dependence on oil

I wonder which nation on earth does not have its own share of the problems that you have identified.

I also concede to you that you have every right to call for the disintegration of Nigeria and you owe no one any excuse as to your intentions.

However you should be conscious of the consequences of such happening and I have not seen you discuss the consequences. For instance how will it affect a Chukwuemeka that is struggling for survival and managing a pharmacy shop in Kano or Damaturu. What will be the new status of those Alaba traders. Or are we to prepare for another crocodile tears after ten years that will result from “abandoned properties” and “forceful ejection from Nigeria”

Personally I don’t have any problems with anyone wanting to opt out of Nigeria but it should be done in a civilized way. For instance can we have the maps of these new countries and the consent of the federating states?

And in case you don’t know Nigeria was partitioned a long time ago during the Abacha regime into six geo-political zones. The only unifying force now is the strong, very strong centre.
Once the centre is weakened it is almost going to be “to thy tents oh children of Israel”. Each geopolitical zone can then be further broken down as the constituents desire.
But let me warn that if any zone is eyeing the resources, especially oil of other zone, that zone should be ready for the Iraq treatment when it dared enter Kuwait.

So as you can see your article has not touched serious issues. It is just hot air with no intellectual backbone. It is not different from what a Clifford orji will call for under Oshodi bridge in lagos.

And finally, while you attempted to identify some of the characteristics/peoples that will be in your suggested countries, this is what you have to say about Biafra republic

Biafra:

The Biafran struggle to create an independent all Christian relatively homogenous confederate nation, free of the enormous contradictions of Nigeria with autonomous political and economic development regions needs no introduction. It has been ongoing since 1967. In due course I will publish a comprehensive blueprint and working paper on “the roadmap to Biafra.”

Considering the fact that you are ibo, THIS IS A SHAME and goes to confirm that you don’t even know a thing about your people. No history, nothing . You wrote “The Biafran struggle to create an independent all Christian relatively”
This is FUNNY. VERY FUNNY.

I will stop here for now before I lose my temperature (that is Dr Zebrudaya for you)

tanibaba,

If all you see in the hue and cry for freedom from people with self determination is oil and the resources of others other than theirs, then you need to check out what the grey matter in your skull is made of .

Assuming for the heck of it, that one decides to reason along with you like a sane person running after a naked mad man nakedly, let me in the process point you to South Korea that has nothing beneath their earth but only their human resources. See what they have done with their self determined life.

You must be one of those who have refused to learn from the tons and tons of submissions made in this village on various topics that should have made you disabuse your twisted mind from your prepubescient level of reasoning.

At this rate if nothing changes drastically in Nigeria, I bet you that in another decade there would still be issues and people will continue to go through the same ugly situation we are in today.

Look at the recent statistics of police killing armed robbers. Either way you look at it, is that not shameful enough to you? There is no need going through the list as you have read, seen, heard them all but you want nothing to change.

Tell us another country that mirror images Nigeria that you know without call for separation since according to you, every country has some problems. Tell us just one country like Nigeria in this world. Remember to state the nature of such problems and how soluble or insoluble they are and at what cost?

It is not only in Nigeria as a country that people have opted out of the union to self determination. Even if they are still struggling, they at least have their freedom.

Mr. it seems that all you know is material things. How about spiritual and other harmonious things of life. Make sure you do not produce ofsprings with genes of your materialistic value otherwise when this oil dries up during their own time they will wither away like a flower.

Someday you will be drinking this crude oil I suppose.

BTW is it only one group that has or that is asking for freedom from Nigeria?

Since you want Nigeria to remain as is physically today, why not consider the call for a national conference for the entire nation to decide how they can continue to live together instead of your treatment of their call with ignominy?

What is your problem, Mr?

tanibaba,

It is interesting you mention consent as the basis for any section of the currently Nigerian space opting out.

Let me remind you the the South East zone of the country is the second largest oil producing zone after South South. The South West zone lays claim to offshore oil of the own. Last time I checked the Nothern zones are not counted as oil producing. Or are they?
I hope every zone, inclduing the Northern zones are taking note of your proposed "Iraq treatment".

Don't worry, in the fullness of time, something will give. In any event, the oil is likely to run out in our life time, another 30 or 40 years by certain estimates.

Now is the time for a serious intellectual and honest debate concerning the unworkable political and economic union we find ourselves. In its current form, Nigeria cannot and will not work!

AW.

It is very clear that you did not read my post. And if you did you did not understand it at all

Your statement is UNTRUE.

I saw something more fundamental - the lack of planning and consideration of the consequences for this call to self determination. I also talked about the maps of the new zones suggested by the author, the partioning of Nigeria into six presently and i also talked about the consent of the constituents in the proposed arrangement.

These are more fundamental than the issue that you have raised and i am disappointed in you that you couldnt process the information i made available.

With the benefit of hindsight i can conveniently say that BIAFRA FAILED because there was no Plan B or a comprehensive consideration of the consequences. With Ibo man all over Nigeria now the need for consideration of the consequences is more important than the call for BIAFRA.

Please shine your eyes :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Ozoodoo,

Your lazy mind that refuses to think and reason will take you nowhere.

You come across like one those who wish away things. If your response to the issue is as simple as those words you wasted, why do you think that Uwazuruike was thrown in jail?

Why do you think Obasanjo once sent killer police men to ambush loads of unarmed MASSOB youths during which the police shot and killed many of them coming from Okigwe in their bus convoy?

Why do you think MASSOB tried to promote Biafra currency?

Where were you when many small businesses in Nigeria closed in response to Uwazuruike; a day when traders sat tight at home and the nation caught some local economic cold?

They are peacefully asking for freedom and if given they will take it and run with it and you won't see their back with your corrupt stinking status quo.

You are the one talking cheap, with your empty head.
