Open Letter to Lamidi Adedibu's Children Print E-mail

I felt constrained to write this letter to you guys. I would have directed my complaint to the old man himself, but it seems he doesn’t believe in his culture’s proverb: Omode gbon, agba gbon ni a fi da ile-ife (Ile-Ife was founded upon the wisdom of both youths and elders). It seems also that the old man has determined to enjoy the life of his children on their behalf. O ma se o. What a pity! Lamidi Adedibu’s behaviour is socially demeaning, brutal, and even sadistic. Do I need to go at length before you guys know the action to take?

Now that the Court of Appeal in Ibadan has ordered the reinstatement of impeached Rasheed Ladoja – a man your dad accused of being stingy with Oyo State’s treasury – as governor, one expects the old man since he solely impeached Ladoja to at least respects the law, sheds his clothes of tout boy image, be bold enough and become a man once in a life time. I know I am asking for impossible but I guess this is the only way out for your dad otherwise he might be forced to take his own life – sooner or later. The old man has deliberately caused too much trouble in my town and beyond.

Just listen to what the old man did in response to the verdict of the appeal court nullifying Ladoja’s impeachment. He hurriedly adorned his aso etu (bullet proof vest), whistled to a junior thug to prepare the esin (horse jeep). Off he went to his family’s house (government house) in order to support his adopted son, (Alao-Akala). And the old man bragged: “No Jupiter will bring back Ladoja as governor”.

In all honesty what do you think of such holler insults, even godlike impunity? Of course he is enjoying presidential backing. Your papa even gathered his educated errand boys including Diran Odeyemi, a man I expect to know better. Together they stormed Agodi NTA (Nigerian Television Authority) in angry protest over the airing of court judgement, which had reinstated Ladoja. Your papa had predicted the outcome of Oyo State affairs even before the Federal government through the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of justice, Bayo Ojo, declared that Ladoja could not return to Agodi government house!

Perhaps you do not know that the old man has become a political demon, a nuisance who is dangerous to his immediate environment. He is a septuagenarian but his thinking leans towards youthful exuberance. At such age, I suppose the old man should have mellowed down. He has reached the age when he should atone for his wrong doings. I mean this is a man who has used his talent and experience to transform thuggery from obscurity to apex of love and acceptance. The old man has succeeded in lording himself over Ibadan people and beyond. He has gradually turned Molete, his base, to Mecca – of Ojelu (polithiefian).

Perhaps you know that the old man takes pride in being Obaiyeje (a treacherous person). I am not sure whether he still surreptitiously enjoys the thought of operation wetie so I won’t speculate on that. However, his ego of destruction to perpetrate all sorts of political opportunism is known to Nigerians, especially people of Oyo State . They may not have power to check the old man’s excesses but they are watching, counting days of reckoning. It shall come. It shall come when my people will be liberated from your dad’s inordinate cruelty.

Your father was given the appellation of strong man of Ibadan politics because of his conceited personality, and his ability to deal ruthlessly with opponents and friends alike. You may be proud of your father but his “achievement” has given amala a bad name. Many Nigerians have stopped eating this delicious food because of the old man. They often argued that eating too much amala, the old man’s favourite delicacy, might make them behave like him – in their old age. See, papa Adedibu has succeeded not only in killing politics in Oyo State.

It is sad and surprising that as a self-proclaimed Yoruba man, your dad has forgotten the charm and advantage of a good name. He has allowed greed to overwhelm his thinking. The old man’s principle has gone with the wind, destroying any ingenuity he might have acquired through experience. Any government is okay by the old man as long as such government shares the treasury with him. Over the years he has become a political contractor. Your dad has meticulously sold his conscience and his birthright to the highest bidder. What a wonderful father!

His latest show of abracadabra, according to Saturday Tribune, is the issuing of nomination forms in favour of his candidates, and to be picked at a cost of #300,000 at his Molete den instead of the party secretariat! It was reported that your dad “told the aspirants that only forms sold in his house with his endorsement would be valid for the primaries”. Moreover, your dad, Olu Molete of Molete, has stood his ground that the incumbent governor, Adebayo Alao-Akala, whom your dad forced on my people would be the sole candidate for the governorship!

You and I know where your papa belongs had Nigeria were to be how a country should be. Yeah, the fact that your dad is being treated with kid’s glove by his buddy in Aso Rock has inspired and convinced him that thuggery, after all, is a plum job. He has since vowed to remain a thug until his last day. Wow.

Do I hear you guys arguing that the old man is also a victim of his environment? Perhaps you are right but your dad is not playing the victim but god among my people. That is his undoing. Of course he is currently riding a high horse; too obsessed with his own inadequacies to be really concerned about yours.  The old man is so absorb in today’s enjoyment, and so the iniquity upon his descendants – for his wrong doings – matters not to him.

Are you guys giving implausible excuses? Are you saying the enlightened elders – Akinjide, Olunloyo, Lam Adesina and co – who suppose to confront your dad, are actually crawling to make the pilgrimage to Molete? Are you guys saying it loud and clear that these elderly men have been stalking the old man for various positions either for themselves or their children? Are you beating your chest that even the sage Awo made your dad relevant during those days? Are you saying this is the reason why the current President cannot curtail him? Ah!

Hum, are you guys claiming that people like Diran Odeyemi alias England Confidential, the current Communication and Strategic adviser to Alao-Akala, secured his present job through such pilgrimage? Are you saying these people indirectly make your dad special despite his crude manner? You may be right in your observation but this is not enough reason for your dad’s business to be destruction, pillage and rigging elections.

I am sure you guys are living comfortably in different parts of the world while your dad’s inglorious choice kills my people – everyday. While I do not actually care about whatever befalls the old man, I have genuine concern for you – the children. Apparently the old man will soon go to the house of Hades. What then becomes of you guys? You should know there comes a certain time when my people shall demand their pound of flesh. And the anger may be so uncontrollable hence you shall be the ones to pay the price.

Now are you frightened? Or are you in self-deceit thinking the long and deft hands of my people will not reach you in your Igilandi or Bushland or Kangarooland? Nna, the world is too small. You can run but you cannot hide. You guys should call family meeting right now and be candid to the old man. Tell him that he is naked whereas the vultures around him would compliment him for being well dressed. Tell him that she, who thinks she knows, knows nothing. His response would tell you the kind of father you have...

 Ire o.

Hakeem,

Nice one!!!

That was a hilarious article with a caustic undertone that will only make meaning to folks Yorubas call OMOLUABI (I dont have an English meaning for this pls!!)

Lamidi Adedibu(Ko ni dafu respect at all) as i remove the Alhaji and/or Baba as he is fondly called has become a nuisance to all and sundry, i just wonder how his children cope with the outside world, dem kids no get pallies ni? If they have, dem pallies no dey yab dem say dem papa na POLITICAL BAD BELLE cum STARK ILLITERATE with no brain at all?

I wrote him off when he said in that interview that the legacy he would like to leave when he is dead is the fact that throughout his life time, "Ibadan knew no peace unless he wants peace to reign". The likes of Olubadan of Ibadan should call him to order unless he has also become a bone in the neck of the king.

On Diran Odeyemi.................that one don chop more than he can chew, let him just rake all the money he needs now, spend it and allow his suffering to begin cos posterity will judge him, hes such an OPONU (Senseless fella) to have allowed himself to be used to go assault a fellow journalist!

Great pity on the good folks of Ibadan.

Mr Babalola,

Nice article and properly addressed to the right parties since Mr Adedibu appears hard of hearing. Maybe, just maybe the younger Adedibus will find their voice and salvage whatever tatters maybe left of their family name.

A search on Google for the word Omoluabi came up with over 500 entries. The particular definition I like is:

The Yoruba word Omoluabi is difficult to translate. If you ask a hundred Yoruba, you are likely to get a hundred definitions. It is a term of appreciation for a man who has integrity, wisdom and patience.

Clearly we can't use the word Omoluabi and Mr Lamidi Adedibu in the same sentence as he is devoid of integrity, wisdom and patience.

...of only this %#%#%#%#%# could read; really you can't blame him when the people who are suppposed to escort him to jail are the ones laying his bed; stopped thinking about Nigeria as a country long time ago, it's nothing but an uncivilized society where animals run freely, the only thing you can do is pray...

OBJ, God’s gift to Nigeria - Egwu
By AKIN DURODOLA - 08.11.2006

EBONYI State governor and presidential aspirant for 2007 election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Sam Egwu, was in Ibadan, Oyo State, yesterday where he described President Olusegun Obasanjo as God’s gift to Nigeria.

Dr. Egwu, speaking at the Molete residence of Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu, said he believed in Obasanjo and his programmes.

The presidential aspirant, who said selfish politicians should not be allowed to rule this country again, said President Obasanjo, within seven and a half years, had tried for the country.

He urged the people not to allow people who would draw the country back to rule the country.

He highlighted various achievements recorded by him since 1999 till date. These, he said, included free health, free education and other developmental programmes in his state.

I have, therefore, come to present myself to the people of Oyo State through Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu to support me to be the president of this country by 2007. I believe with Alhaji Adedibu here and the people of Oyo State, God will answer my prayers,” he said.

Nicely written Hakeem. I hope the Olumolete has few few good ones in his brood that would get to read this article. With his kind of attitude, I'm sure he would have truckloads of children (omo beere, osi beere). I have met a few people who know some of his kids. I hear the kids are stuck up and think the world of their lawless father, But the \ibadan people seem to be comfortable with the man's lifestyle. we need more people with the courage of the Ekitis to chase these buggers out.
