Time Up for Nuhu Ribadu In The Nigeria Police Force

Everything has a begging and certainly an end. The end of Nuhu Ribadu, the former Chairman of the EFCC, in the Nigeria Police Force is at hand. He is not indispensable as his admirers want the world to believe. His continued stay in the Force is an embarrassment to the Nigeria Police Force and the country as a whole. Since he now sees himself bigger than the institution that produces him, it is better to ease him out so that he can continue to live in a fool’s paradise.

Other nations of the world have someone at the head of their anti-corruption agencies, in one form or the other. They are never heard. Ribadu’s job at EFCC got over his head that he thought he produced Yar’Adua as president and hence he is untouchable. If he is the Mr. Clean he wants the world to believe he is, why ask the court to prevent EFCC from investigating him? Why is he running from pillar to post just to scuttle the EFCC’s attempt to try him? He ought to have thrown himself up for investigation and let the world see that he possesses what he preaches. His fear that he is being hounded does not justify his attempt to escape justice. After all, the case will still end up in the same court that he runs to now.

His friend Nasiru el-Rufai demonstrated to the world that he is willing and ready to answer questions on his tenure. When the Senate Committee on FCT invited el-Rufai for questioning, he did not run to the courts to prevent the Committee from questioning him. El-Rufai stepped on toes too as Minister and he did not accuse any of his perceived enemies as those responsible for his travails at the time. Rather, it afforded him the opportunity to state his own side of the story. Let Ribadu be a man and emulate his good friend.

What is most annoying in the whole saga is to refer to Ribadu as the architect of the war on corruption in Nigeria. What is the place of the Murtala Mohammed and Tunde Idiagbon, both of blessed memories? What is the place of Muhammadu Buhari? These gentlemen fought corruption with all their vigour without anyone accusing them of being biased. Also, they were never accused of being corrupt under the guise of fighting corruption. Ribadu swam in corruption. That is the reason why he is being chased about by his shadows. The world would be shocked when Ribadu is investigated and he turned out to be another Obasanjo.

Tunde Idiagbon was in Saudi Arabia for the annual pilgrimage when his government was toppled in a place coup. He was offered an asylum by the Saudi government but he rejected the offer, even though, he knew what awaited him in his homeland. He came home and was arrested and detained. He did not ask heaven to fall on us through the period his travails lasted. He stepped on toes but still he did not say that his enemies were after him. This is because the anti-corruption war they initiated was total and genuine. Till date, Tunde Idiagbon remains an icon in the minds of the generality of Nigerians.

To continue to discuss Nuhu Ribadu is like we don’t have anything to do as a nation. Enough of this nonsense, please. Other nations of the world are discussing issues and ideas and not trivialities.

In most parts of the civilised world, positive things done by dictators are not remembered after their depature from power. That said, every dictator Nigeria as a country had the ill-luck to have had till date, lived above their legitimate income and those still alive are obviously living above their legitimate earnings as heads of state.
Many people have taken the issue of Ribadu personal.Iam not his fan for the single fact that he allowed OBJ to use him for selfish political gains but that does not mean he did nothing for the nation. As a police officer however,he has been insubordinate to his superiors in recent times.Iam afraid. The results of such actions in any armed force, is not difficult to contemplate.
As I say usually, I wish him the best of luck

May God bless the author of this article. You have said in this short essay what nobel lauretes, Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Distinguished Senators of the United States Senate and the mass of herd that were deceived by Mr Ribadu's false posturing have refused to see.

Time will expose Ribadu for the fraud that he is. May God bless you and enbolden you to always speak the truth as you see it.

Such myopic comments are some of the reasons why Nigeria remains in the death clutches of such corrupt individuals as Ibori and the like. Yes it is true that Ribadu is not the first to fight corruption, however what you fail to acknowledge is that Murtala and Idiagbon/Buhari's fight against corruption was also brought to an abrupt end by the very same cabal still milking Nigeria dry. Also at the height of their fight and long after, they received the same accolades and praise as Ribadu has been getting. I believe no praise is too much for Ribadu and his like and totally disagree with your desire to sweep his issue under the carpet as we Nigerians are so fond of doing. Yes there are corruption fighting agencies in other countries however until it becomes the norm rather than the exception, when periodically such individuals as Ribadu are brave enough to distinguish themselves no amount of praise and support should be too much. Though Ribadu like any mortal being is no saint (the issue of the over forty suitcases belonging to a northern Emir comes to mind during Idiagbon/Buhari regime and the unfair promotion of Danjuma over his peers during Murtala regime)he dared to step on toes of the powerful without fear and though his fight may have been viewed as selective(to which the fact it should be realised that the ultimate decision of who got prosecuted ended with Obasanjo) none of those tried were innocent of the charges against them. It is a huge shame that those very individuals are now being encouraged by people like you to carry on with their brazen looting of our dear country.Ribadu has a right to fight his demotion by the Police considering the present IG also enjoyed such a promotion at one time. His court case is against this injustice and not with trying to stop his investigation as you erroneously stated.I wonder with comments like yours how anybody in their right senses are ever again expected to put themselves forward to diligently serve their fatherland if Ribadu is allowed to be unfairly trampled upon by the very criminals that caused and still continue to cause millions of Nigerians unbearable suffering through their corruption(a case in point is the removal of the very diligent Dora Akinyuli from NAFDAC to be placed in the Ministry of information!!!! HABA). You speak as though you are happy with the such figureheads as the current EFCC chairwoman(who coincidentally was recommended by ibori, saraki and their like!!) and happenings in Nigeria currently, under this obviously directionless government.

So you and this clueless writer know something that Nobel Laureates, SAN and the distinguished USA Senators do not know? Your comment and the article are as dumb as they come.

So your hero the writer thinks Ribadu wants to scuttle justice by running to justice?
Only an idiot will compare Military Heads of State with the power of life and death to an appointed Police Officer with many seniors ahead of him in fighting corruption.

So was Buhari/Idiagbon and Murtala Mr. Cleans? Then I would ask you and the dumb writer what you know about the N800 Million ITT contract when Naira was money. Will like to know in what planet he was when the nations security was breached by Buhari in order for them to help his in-law smuggle 53 luggages into the country at the time the country was undergoing currency change.

Abeg go find ya mate for kindergarten class.

Ribadu did well, FG admits
By Oluwole Josiah, Abuja
Published: Thursday, 18 Dec 2008

The Federal Government on Wednesday, cautioned the former Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, on his protracted conflict with the Police Force.

Mallam Nuhu Ribadu

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chief Ojo Maduekwe, while briefing journalists on Wednesday in Abuja, said that having done so well as EFCC boss, Ribadu should not destroy what he had laboured to build.

He said, ”It is unfortunate and I wish that this problem didn‘t occur. I will wish that Ribadu’s patriotic instincts will assist him in this difficult time and equip him on how he can put the nation above every other issue.

”If he does that, he may begin to locate certain answers that can help all sides to come out of this mess. This is a mess that is totally avoidable and we regret that it is happening, but what can we do?

”Nigeria is a state and has the duty to explain what is happening and that is what we are doing. We didn‘t want to take issues with Ribadu, he did a good job, he showed commitment, courage, and passion, and this, for me, is welcomed, but he should not destroy what he built even if he feels he is not well treated.”

According to Maduekwe, Ribadu should not run down the police, adding that, ”He is a member of police force and he signed to be obedient while in the force. What is his respect for rules and authority? Taking his employers to court is wrong, all in the name of fighting for his right.”

The minister said that the situation was giving the country a bad name, noting that it was not acceptable because Ribadu would always remain a Nigerian.

He said, ”So if this is about institutional capacity and the rule of law, how can one person quarrel with his bosses, or even with the Nigerian government. The important thing is that we know what we are doing, we are not fighting corruption because somebody is giving us lectures on how to do it, we are fighting corruption because our national survival depends on it.”

I repeat, the author of this article has seen what the herd cannot see. No apologies. No regrets. No joining issues with the herd until they shake-off the spirit of ignorance.

Once again, God bless the author.
