Remembering Charles Alaba Joseph

"In every era the attempt must be made anew to wrest tradition away from a conformism that is about to overpower it. The Messiah comes not only as the redeemer, he comes as the subduer of Antichrist. Only that historian will have the gift of fanning the spark of hope in the past who is firmly convinced that even the dead will not be safe from the enemy if he wins. And this enemy has not ceased to be victorious." ---Walter Benjamin, "Theses on the Philosophy of History" (1940)
The Unknown But Known Assailants

It’s that time of the year again when we remember the passing on in very painful and unusual way Engineer Charles Alaba Joseph,(the late Mobitel Ltd Boss) a Brother, Cousin, Uncle, Friend, Husband, Father and Associate, all thanks to the Unknown but known assailants.

We remember and recall today and always how Charles was cut down and laid in a pool of his own blood and how an autopsy was conducted that showed that he died as a result of gun-shot (“Cranial Cerebral Injuries”) wound to his head. The position of his body to even a layman showed and debunked the initial lies sold to the media same day by the interests in the case.

One cannot but marvel at the capacity of us human to inflict the maximum of pain. I’m referring to the lackadaisical attitude of the former IGP Sunday Ehindero when Charles was cut down in what was so glaring. A man was shot to death, but our Police Chief will have us believe that his death was because he was fleeing from unknown assailants. And rather than continue with a full enquiry along the directional line of scientific evidence was so fast in closing the case, hence condemning it to the famous “Cold Case File“.

We cant be surprised anyway as most cases of murder under Ehindero’s watch were all treated in the same fashion and are yet to be resolved. There were so many pointers and clear indication that the Nigerian Police bungled this case. And it was very clear that there was ere a huge cover-up.

Thanks to the Lagos State Govt during the tenure of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the present Governor Mr Babatunde Fashola..SAN, and people like Prof Oluyemi Osinbajo -former Attorney-General of Lagos State, for acceding to our request for an inquest and for arranging for experts to be flown in. Also thanks to the doggedness of family members on ground and lawyers. In spite of the inquest showing that the Police did a shoddy job the Chief of Police refused to bulge.

We thank God for every single day, but regret to have to say that not having a proper closure to this case gives us pain. I could still remember all the Shenanigans that went on including the role of Intercontinental Bank - the bank responsible for the murder of my late husband while effecting a forceful takeover. The then receiver-manager Kemi Phinero must now believe that no one can indict him because “all he did was to take some armed guards and policemen to Mobitel Ltd to effect a takeover”…..

Charles Alaba Joseph gave of his best to each and everyone of us. Have we given of our best to him and the family he left behind? He’s done and gone, what are we doing to give of our best to our family, friends, community and Nation. Are we lackadaisical in terms of things that are important and prefer to join the Shifty-Race or cut the chase and do things in orderly and progressive manner. Posterity will judge us all.

There will be a Memorial Service for my Late Husband at the usual Regions on Monday 15th September, 2008.

"And as it is appointed unto man once to die, but after this the judgment’’ - Hebrew 9 Verse 27

'Dupe,

My heart bleeds for you and the entire extended family as the painful memory of the death of your husband comes around once again.
While memories like this won't die quick{if it ever died},yet, see to it that you adopt the method of Shakespare that "things without remedy must be without regard".

What a sad state of affairs. I pray the soul of your gentle husband and father rest in perfect peace. I truly hope the aforementioned Kemi Phinero you refer to is not the same one who has since become a SAN. I read the various accounts of what happened and firmly believe that Kemi Phinero's hands are stained with the blood of your husband. If it is the same Kemi Phinero who is now a SAN, what can one decipher about the selection criteria but then we are talking about Nigeria so I should know...!

Mrs Joseph, please accept my condolences for this still painful injury that was done to your family.

May the Almighty never depart your sides and, may you keep finding comfort in that ever bountiful love.

Be assured that justice will come. There is a lot more to life than what we see and it would be a million times better for the assailants if they answer for their transgressions in this life.

Rest assured that should they avoid justice here, it awaits them in a most terrible form in that place where we will all be going after our brief stay here.

More strength to you sister, and to your family.

Sis,

I know how you feel most especially on the 3rd anniversary of the death of your husband, Engr Charles Alaba Joseph- An Egbon to the core

I know how you feel when a loved one is yanked off brutally and in such manner

I know how you feel when the Police released his photograph with all the blood on his head without due consultation with the family.........What was their motive anyway?

I know how you feel when the inquest indicated a single gun shot wound to the head and the police said he jumped to his death.

I know how you feel most especially when their is no more a fatherly figure to the Children, now adults and doing well in their various fields.

More importantly, i know how you feel when the assailants are still roaming the streets of Lagos when they should be behind bars for life or better still awaiting the gallows.

We need not worry about them, they've done their worst but we leave them to the judgement of God who in time past was a user of a rickety Volkswagen for His retribution of justice but now a proud owner of a MACH 5 craft.

Take heart and solace in God who is able to do more abundantly than you think, He will certainly guide you through the turmoils of this world.

I leave you with the old Baptist hymn called Sweet Hour of Prayer (Adura didun):

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
That calls me from a world of care,
And bids me at my Father’s throne
Make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief,
My soul has often found relief
And oft escaped the tempter’s snare
By thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
The joys I feel, the bliss I share,
Of those whose anxious spirits burn
With strong desires for thy return!
With such I hasten to the place
Where God my Savior shows His face,
And gladly take my station there,
And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
Thy wings shall my petition bear
To Him whose truth and faithfulness
Engage the waiting soul to bless.
And since He bids me seek His face,
Believe His Word and trust His grace,
I’ll cast on Him my every care,
And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
May I thy consolation share,
Till, from Mount Pisgah’s lofty height,
I view my home and take my flight:
This robe of flesh I’ll drop and rise
To seize the everlasting prize;
And shout, while passing through the air,
“Farewell, farewell, sweet hour of prayer!”

Notes
Sis, If you see this post at all, do know that we really care about you! Expect my call later today pls.

Love you!

Your Brother,
Wale

My darling sis!

Just like yesterday............... it is well my sister, these people may think they are untouchable but we know they are not. The God that administers justice will visit them sooner than we all think. Justice will be done on this earth and continued in the thereafter if they do not repent!!

I pray that the good Lord continues to uphold you and the children......they shall be a testimony to the greatness and goodness of God.

It is well.........

I'll call you later!!

@Ajimoh

Yes, its the same Kemi Phinero. Isn't it sad the sort of people being made SAN's in Nigeria? That such a person and Kalejaiye are SAN's in Nigeria only shows the legal profession has nose dived into the sewers like most things Nigeria/n. SHAME:cry:

Sis, thanks for the clarification. Shame indeed but we will not let reprobates like those two (Kemi Phinero & Kalejaiye) tarnish the good image and memory of the late venerable gentleman, so let us consign the mention of their names into the garbage can of history, where they rightly belong. Those who murdered Engr Charles Alaba Joseph for lucre will never know peace here and in the hereafter and ditto the murderers of late Bola Ige (an authentic Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN)).

The bullet of the assailants may have taken the life of your beloved husband and the father of your children. The memories will always remain. Nobody can take that away from you.

Memories of both of you building your lives together...your dreams and aspirations.

Memories of the joy and laughter that filled your home.

Memories of him gingerly cuddling your first newborn.

Memories of him putting you and the kids first...before even himself.

Memories of him lifting the heavy stuff so you will not hurt yourself. (if only he could see the things you are capable of lifting now.lol!)

Memories of the intimacy in your loving relationship.

Memories of that side of him that nobody but yourself knows.

Memories...memories...memories...they are all yours, sister! Cherish them, and as you do so, be thankful...

Thankful that God gave you the opportunity to know someone as wonderful as your husband.

Thankful that you still have a part of him in your children.

Thankful that he did not die before your children were old enough to know their father.

Thankful that the pain and grief that came with his death did not destroy you...you have come out stronger.

Thankful that you have the opportunity to carry on with the plans he had for your children.

My dear, there's so much to be thankful for.
May God, who has brought you thus far, continue to hold your hand and I know that someday, you will find happiness again.

Later.

This case is indeed pathetic to put it simply. But what do you expect in a country where a whole Attorney General, the the chief law enforcer of the most populous African country was murdered in cold blood and till now the police has not provided a commonsense answer to his death? Who will ever want to live in a country like that. We all know that we must all die one day but at least somebody should be able to tell our loved ones exactly how we died.

Your husband must be a hell of a good man and you, a wonderful wife. I wonder how many women can fight fiercely for justice as you have been done?
