| NIGERIANS IN THAILAND A MOCKERY OF A NATION.
Journalism lecturer Dr Ndaeyo Uko has revealed unbeknownst activities of some Nigerians in Bangkok. In his article titled; Nigerians in Thailand- Nigerian Village squire, he maintained according to Embassy sources in Bangkok that 99 per cent of Nigerians who came to Thailand and, in fact, who live in that country, went there on drug-related business. In this article he gave an account of a Nigerian who went to renew his visa on another country's passport. The name on the passport was called many times. The man thought it was someone else.
In recent time, these Nigerian rotten eggs in Bangkok have formed Nigeria Drug Mafia in Bangkok. They carry on their operations underground, while recruiting newly arrived Nigerians in Thailand to distribute illicit drugs for them. Without knowing Slightest implications of what they do, this new comers hawk illicit drugs around sukhumvit road, Ramkhamheng roads, Ratchada areas, Phuket, Pataya and other islands, even some of the shopping centers like Big C and foodlands are being used.
These Nigerian drug barons in Bangkok are so determine to continue their nefarious act, not minding the endless efforts of Thai narcotic Dep. to put them off business. In their attempt to recruit new members into Nigeria Bangkok drug Mafia, they applied methods of intimidating and false accusation against innocent Nigerians in Bangkok who are not into drug business. In one of their sponsored published article of 12th Nov. 2007 by Temple Chima Ubochi Titled; Federal government please help Nigerians in Thailand. They deliberately, in attempt to discourage the Royal Thai narcotic from doing their good works, falsely wrote that Phuket one of the major tourist cities in Thailand is a haven for HIV Virus, and that prostitution there is widespread. In the same article they accused some noble minded Nigerians in Bangkok of abetting Thai police to apprehend them.
Some of these notable illicit drug kin pins that operate under shadow are in Thailand narcotics blacklist, namely OKORIE PRINCE VITUS, MGBAJI ERNEST, LAWRENCE OKAFOR CHIDOZIE and host of others who are as elusive as to find. Most of their nicknames are merely to conceal their true identity and as such may not reflect their real names. These people are avaricious and will do anything for money. Back home in Nigeria they own and drive the best choice of cars and also own and live in edifice. Even the current Nigerian community chairman in Bangkok Mr. Loyld Nwafor who has since desisted from illicit activities is still helping them in some write-ups for propaganda purpose. In one of their numerous articles, precisely the one of 11th Nov 2007 captioned; DRUG STIGIMA: NIGERIA LAMENTS ORDEAL IN THAILAND by Uche Usim, the Chairman of Nigerian community in Bangkok gave his tacit approval before it was posted on Nigerian daily sun of Sunday 11th of Nov 2007.
The activities of Nigerian Bangkok Mafia are so alarming to the effect that good Nigerians who do legitimate business are beginning to feel the impact. It is now a game of if you can not win them, you join them. Recently, two Nigerian notables who are seriously against drug business were deliberately and wrongfully accused of being police informants. In furtherance of their actions, they went and published the names of these two innocent men in Nigerianworld.com in other to tarnish their image. Since the said publication, the two men have been subjected to the object of ridicule among their kin’s men. From all indications, it is clear that these cabals are not relenting at all in any of their shady deals.
In every month, a Nigerian in Bangkok is caught with any of the prohibited drugs in Thailand. In every two weeks, an Asian lady is caught either for delivering illicit drug or bringing it for a Nigerian in Thailand. In every week, a Nigerian in Thailand is caught for illegal use of other country’s passport and in every six hours, a Nigerian in Thailand is caught for any illegal activities. Their Godfathers as they are being called are so rich that they can pay any amount for any bailable offence that concerns them. Take for an example, one Nigerian drug baron (name withheld)paid half million Thai bath for his bail in a twinkle of an eye for drug related case, while another Nigerian seasoned drug dealer paid over three hundred thousand Thai bath for bail, all for drug related cases.
While I do not doubt the sincerity of many genuine Nigerians living in Thailand who are not into illegal business, I am becoming worried by recent developments where these Godfathers are recruiting some of genuine Nigerian into their organization. It will be of good idea, if Nigerian anti drug agency and Thais will work together to flush out this organize criminal before they consolidate. Written by..... PRINCE JERRY CHIKE OBINABO, (BANGKOK)
