From Bastogne to North Korea: By Patrick Nwadike nwadike2@gmail.com The drumbeat of war is sounding in Korea peninsula. It has not reached pandemic level but it is almost there. North Korea has been testing “weapons of mass destruction”. Kim Jong-il dares the civilized and not too civilized world. Even as UN pulls sanctions, North Korea replies with more deafening tests. Hilary Clinton, US Secretary of State has said that the whole world will unify against this threat. While visiting Japan, she made it clear that Japan has right to defend itself. Obama has repeated consecutively that North Korea aiming to be recognized as a nuclear power in Asia belt is not acceptable. He has denounced the attitude of a “rogue” nation threatening its neighbors and black-mailing the world. This circle of horse-trading must stop, Obama feels and states. Already, South Korea in concert with USA has raised the danger posed by North Korea to Orange level. They have massed armies and intelligence within telescopic shot of North Korea attempts or taste for bloodshed. With this move by South Korea and America, any surprise attack from North Korea has been whittled. If North now makes a mistake of attacking South, they will be shocked and awed with repercussions from South Korea. North Korea is in dire straights. The leader, Kim Jong-il appears to be trapped in the past, a time when a President Bush use to call him Chairman has been done with. He no longer hears that voice. The man presently at the helm of affairs in America, President Obama has this imbibed psyche that the world is legitimate and that any existence is as important as another. Obama is not ready for short-term solutions; he eyes long term amendments and history is with him. In the remote seas of Somalia, he held pirates seeking ransom at daggers drawn. When the pirates turned down chance giving to them to live, hostage takers became hostages, the hunted became the hunter. An American captive was freed while the pirates were nipped with one taken alive. Obama is not therefore ready to continue on the part of dishing supplies to North Korea. Hear him, “Concessions in the form of food, fuel and other incentives in return for backing down, only to later see Pyongyang renege on its promises must end. This is a pattern they’ve come to expect”, Obama said “we are going to break that pattern”. China seems no longer to hold the ace in solving this problem. A friendly newspaper to China communist regime has written about North Korea succession crisis. It may be a signal that all is not going well between North Korea and China. Obviously, Chinese do not want refugees streaming from North Korea to their country. China has issued its concerns to North in a joint statement with Russia’s Medvedev. China however should not be trusted. There should be plan ‘B’ incase at a point, China decides to tilt the balance. Here in Japan, serious military maneuver has been going on. The air fleet has been on course. Looking out from my present base, I can see droplets of parachute from the sky, times without number. The weather this few days has helped momentous drills possible. Japan will not go to war but has earned the right to defend itself if attacked. The Samurai Sword has been drawn and like baseball GIANTS, this island country will defend itself against a foreboding enemy. At the proper time, they will begin the charge. Kim Jong-il will discover that the battle ground will be North Korea. America has drawn the parameters and South Korea is holding forth; and Japan is on precision. North Korea has since withdrawn from six-party talks involving US, South Korea, China, Japan and Russia. North Korea has also withdrawn from the armistice ending the Korea war of 1950 and establishing 38 parallel; the boundary line between North and South Korea. If North Korea continues to be defiant, Kim Jong-il will find out that his newly appointed son, Kim Jong Un, will have no country to lead. He will loose North Korea. This appears to be the ultimate destiny of its own people. Kim Jong-il is lacking a definite back power in his arsenal to contain a serious and consistent onslaught. His one million foot soldiers will be dealt a crushing blow. His advances on land and see will be grind down and his air defenses will be rusted once it soars. If he starts this war and in defeat he decides to withdraw and negotiate, that will not be acceptable. Provoking this war will be a not too significant ‘game changer’ for Asia peninsula. Its defeat will only serve as a lesson on how evil ends. During the 2nd world war, Germans tested American might at “The Battle for Bastogne”. Germans mounted assault and tattered American front. When it seemed all hope was lost, Gen. Bradley broke German ranks and secured Bastogne. I predict that this war will not hold. Kim Jong-il will expire in frustrations and get back to the negotiating table. But where is Africa’s place in all these incase push comes to shove? What information is there for Africans incase Kim Jong-il refuses to bulge? In Guangzhou, southern China, thousands of Africans live and thrive. In South Korea, Seoul and Pusan hosts most Africans. In Japan, Tokyo and Chiba prefectures has largest share of Africans. What preparations are there to create collective well being and cohesive access to same information incase my predictions falters?
