Consultant and Consulting In a challenging time, opportunities emerge for consultants. As corporations have been reorganizing and right sizing, merging and seeking opportunities from different parts of the world, the need for consultants’ increases. During the 1990s, U.S. revenue from consulting increased by average of 15% every year until 2000 economic downturn. Nonetheless, by 2003, many corporations had needed to turn to consultants and consulting became a growth market. In the present economic meltdown, corporations are rarely spending and when they spend it is with expectation for targeted productivity. In this situation consultants are sought for to bring on board specialized services and expertise that minimize risk. In my first service to support a company: The case of Eniola (Artistry) Gallery -EAG, a company that is starting to feel pain caused by unpleasant revenue situation in an industry with lots of opportunities in the market. You might ask your self, as you read the case, what would you do if you were the consultant who was called in by Eniola (Artistry) Gallery. How would you proceed to help this company with its challenge? Eniola Artistry Gallery is a small artistry and design company that was founded about 14 years ago by 2 sculptors and paint artists who met while they were in senior secondary school. The company quickly established a reputation for its creative, often-sculpturing to decorate internal and external of buildings. In the year 2000-2002, the company acquired several major clients and increased its staff from 2 founding employees to more than 10 staff. However, in the 2003, the company had faced challenges and had lost two of his best employees which included a founding artist. I was part of the team in the year 2000-2002 working as internal consultant-known as special assistant-and my job was to redesign operation and provide strategic support for us to maximize opportunities available in the market. There was something going on in the market that we didn’t understand, and we have to get grasp on this quickly lest we are forced out of market. The EAG scenario is not uncommon in a competitive business climate. A new enterprise started by some talented people, experience fast growth with a very bright future, and suddenly hits a wall. The company officials can not figure out what’s wrong. What they are currently doing has been successful in the past, but it does not seem to be working now. This became opportunity for EAG to engage the service of a person who can provide insight for the company. I was engaged and I relied more on my intuition for strategic moves and little diagnoses on internal operation and its customer within the market. I made some recommendations to what the company needed to do to jack up the revenue. I help EAG see into need for a marketing strategy and innovative products and service that beat competition. We were not always right but we were able to turn EAG to seven figures in revenue and over 100% growth in revenue on annual bases. This is what consultants do: help organizations and individuals that have a need. The big question is how to most effectively help the client. This is my passion and my fulfillment comes when I have achieved client interest. The ultimate goal of consulting is to increase on organizations’ level of effectiveness. This requires considerable skill and understanding of organization’s people, problem, and culture and as well a strong grasp of the right things for assisting organization to change. My strength is to support individual, organization and government through principles that produce result. When you have a need to move to the next level don’t hesitate to involve me. “A consultant is defined as some one who either advises a client-another person or an organization-on the desirability of taking some actions, or who assists the client in making a decision as determined by the client. Stroti and Johnson 2006”
