President-elect Barack Obama, the son of a foreign student from Kenya , has displayed to the entire world the spiritual power of hope, faith and perseverance. Barack’s father, having completed his education in USA ( Harvard University ) returned home ( Kenya ) whilst he (Barack) stayed behind with his mother in USA . The sudden death of Barack’s father in a car accident in Kenya robbed Obama the joy of developing father and son relationship with his father. But Barack never detach himself from his African root. He has been to Kenya and other countries in Africa on several occasions. I am certain that the continent of Africa can expect to see more of her son again very soon.

The world is still rejoicing to see a black person in the White House. People around the globe, regardless of skin color and nationality, celebrated the achievement of the president-elect on November 4, 2008 . Black Americans and Africans in general had revisited the milestone journey they had endured and the priceless price paid to reach the current political podium. Past African American leaders (Dr. Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Rosa Park, and other martyrs) gave up their precious lives for a better today which humanity would record to commence on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 .

Faith, biblical speaking, is to be sure of what we hope for and certain of it even though we have not seen it. The giants in the bible anchored their faith in God. Abraham became father of every nation. Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt . David killed Goliath.

The black race has come a long way having endured rivers of tears, valleys of falls, endless circles of struggles and fires of heartaches. Today, all African Americans can stand up tall and proudly acclaim that with our faith and hope in God “YES, WE CAN.”

The struggle for black Americans is not over. The same goes for Africans and other minority nationalities. The human race is endless until the coming of Christ or our crossover to heaven. As Barack Obama said with grace and humility, in his acceptance speech at the 2008 Democratic National Convention, “Let us hold on to the faith which we profess….”  Needless to say, that faith swiftly propelled him to the presidential victory which all the world is joyously celebrating today and will continue into the future.

I was on the phone celebrating the historic victory of Barack Obama with my daughter (Olayinka Oni-Orisan, a student at Howard University, Washington, DC) when it dawned on me, that the utmost effect of this historic moment is yet to unfold. For now, truth be told, president-elect Barack Obama has greatly inspire all of us regardless of the color of our skin, age, religion, profession, nationality, and our aspiration.

Barack Obama was elected to become the 44th president of USA because he is a divined presidential package being. Yes, he is a black man but the color of his skin was not a factor to being elected the president of the most powerful country in the world. His name and skin color alone are liabilities to the natural realm. But Obama has been graciously polished literally, has humorously endeavor perseverance, and spiritually strives on hope and faith in God Almighty.

“A new spirit of liberty and inspiration revolves in America and around the world” are the words emitting from people’s month since the election’s day. School children, though not eligible to vote due to their minority ages, participated to bring the historic election into its phenomenon. There were school dances, plays and debates staged by these children. After the election, these same children like adults were inspired beyond words. When a black youngster about 12 years was asked what this election means to him, his eyes were watery and body shaking but he struggled to express that “I have been told many times that l can do anything in life. Now, I believe because of Obama.” Even adults were speechless about the event of November 4, 2008 . Here is the remark from a successful businesswoman about the election “… Silence, sometimes is best…” Huh?

Needless to say, this historic election means different things to a host of people. Many entrepreneurial individual has been capitalizing on the election by selling various Obama memorabilia including but not limited to T-shirts, pins, wall papers, posters, and other income producing initiatives. Musicians (rappers) are earnestly producing Obama-influenced songs and concerts around the globe. Money, money …..

How about the humorous show-business group called The Obama Girls? Do you know about them? They were created when Obama made the gigantic announcement of running for president. Some bakeries are baking and selling Obama cakes in New York area now. Only God knows how other businesses are capitalizing from what has been fondly called Obamaism. In Kenya , women are naming their children after Obama.

Barack Obama is now a member of the exclusive club of presidents. With all the celebrations going on in America and around the globe about him, let us not forget how he attained the victory. Villagers and readers of NVS, regardless of your religion, remember to pray for the president-elect Barack Obama and his Cabinet. Even if you did not vote for him, he needs our collective prayers more than ever. America economy is in disarray and presently in two separate wars.

So, those of you who are prayer warriors or intercessors, you need to immerse yourself into prayers for Obama and his Cabinet right now.  May God download His wisdom and protection on President Barack Obama, his family and his Cabinet, Amen!
