She made my room mate stay awake all night as he reminiscedabout her
charm, beauty and the life he dreamed they'd spend together. They had been good
ol' friends but she was one that was within reach, yet so difficult to win her
heart over. She visited us at my friend's behest yet she was resolute and was
sure to always offer a NAY to his marriage proposal. He had sent her
freshly-cut rose flowers with their red petals by courier to her work place.
Her colleagues were envious and not a few guys were in hot pursuit of her,but
she spurned them all. Her heart was somewhere else and the guy was one that had
stolen her heart, yet he had no plans to marry her. I wondered what on earth
would make her not marry a smashing and smart guy like my room mate, whose future
is so promising....and my friend rightly christened her, Odinso Eruaka! Someone
that's too close, yet not within one's reach!
Then again, I fell in love with another in her ilk,
whom my heart yearned for but she rebuffed my offer of love. Then did I reckon
with what my room mate had faced, and why he was disconsolate for a pretty long
time when it was obvious that the lady whom he loved, didn't love him as much
yet preferred to remain his friend. But poor guys as we are, we seek for love
where it's unrequited, yet disdain those that easily walk into ourlives. Maybe
it's the hunter's instinct in us that makes us drown in the river while
pursuing an elusive love-made-in-heaven. Frommy interaction with a couple of
guys, not a few have had this 'Odinso Eruaka" experience and after the
reality hit home, they accepted that the lady they loved was not ready to
settle down with them and they moved on...which was the best and most realistic
option available. Lick your wound, bind together the edges of your broken heart,
and move on with life until you find love that will be requited....and it's
same for women who find themselves enmeshed in the pursuit of a man that they
love, whose heart is somewhere else!
Enjoy the read!
Odinso eruaka! My mirage, my ghostly maiden
You
consume my thoughts and blank out
Memories
of those that have adored my reality
Odinso
eruaka! The reality that evaporates
Seehow
youoccupy the throne of my heart
Yet
defy the ordinances and statutes of my kingdom
Ikuku ama na onya! The air that defies the hunters
trap
Why
benumb me with your poisoned smile ?
Yet
implant my heart with a load of lead stones
And
drop me from the heights of expectations
Like
an eclipse, you cast an eerier shadow
Over
the blazing sun that lightens my heart
And
soak way my hopes, wishes, illusions and dreams!
Odinso eruaka! My waning and fading maiden
When
I was locked in an embrace with you
My
world began to spin with eternal delight
But
like the sloughs left in the cobras trail
The
scales fell off my eyes, and I saw you truly
As
thewaking nightmare that haunts for life
Odinso eruaka! The fantasy that kills reality
You
brush me with your skins hairs
Yet
you are so far from my reach and grip
For
in a moment you seem closer to my heart
But
in a flash you float like a dispersed smoke
From
a distance your smile flashes like light
But
they darken my mind and bleach every essence of you
Odinso eruaka! The tree full of leaveswith no fruits
Yet
fiery angels guard you with their rare lives
Can
I release myself from your seductive grips?
Bid
me to drink from the rock, that exuding spring
From
where you were sculpted and burnished
Then
would I share in the source of your essence
And
be able to trap and grip you as a living reality
Angels and Saints! Fathers and Patriarchs!
Why
watch me swim in this misery?
What
gain would be yours if you ignore my cry?
If
you loathe and let me die in this state,
How
then would we hallow your virtues and
Revere
the sacred grounds your feet had touched?
May
my tears rouse you from your eternal rest!
