The Emotional/Relationship Life of Jesus Christ

I have had two interesting weeks of soul searching and learning from the school of life. As an undergraduate in far away Kano years ago, I once boasted to one of my lecturers that I was a student of the mind. I was eager to understand the workings and the complexities of the mind, so I could tap its powers and have the 'mind-over-matter' experiences. But the good ol' Christian lady fired back with some degree of concern, "Why not a student of the Spirit?" and that got me thinking. It made me begin to see life beyond the fringes of what the mind can reckon with alone. I realised that spiritual understanding can actually help in enlightening the mind...and with time, I have come to see that a spiritually- vibrant life is the key to a balanced emotional life.

Last week, I had bouts of migraine headcahe that crippled my mind and I could only work for two full days. At some point I had to reckon that there is a limit to which one can push the mind and the body. I had books to read, public health journals to review and articles to write. My mind became so fussy and discombobulated that I couldn't read a line without my head throbbing and the right eye threatening to pop out of the socket. I dreaded anything called bright lights and my eyes looked dazed and bloodshot, and the pain killer pills did little to assuage the agony and ache I had to endure.

At the wee hours of the morning while everywhere was quiet, I stepped out of my room and reclined on a chair at the balcony to seep in the salubrious air of the morning. I heard the chirpings of crickets and the chorus of other insects and creeping animals. My mind wondered aimlessly and ruminated about a lot of things. I wondered why we have emotions and all...and I thought about Jesus and his emotional life, and was dazed that he had a very balanced emotional life that complimented his spirituality. I realised that a sound and emotionally healthy life is as important as life itself.

I came to a point that I realised how emotionally drained I was...which was beyond physical weariness. I needed to REST and indeed forced myself to rest without feeling guilty that I allowed time to tick past me without making any efforts to redeem it. No book to read; no journal to write; no writing project to engage my mind. Passing thro' a day without giving in to the urge to write or read was hard to bear. But I had to accept the reality that life is not to be activity-filled but to be lived and enjoyed. It is okay to pause and savour life and drink deeply from the wellsprings that life offers.

The emotional wilderness I passed through made me reflect on the emotional and relationship life of Jesus Christ, and I was amazed at what I found out. He lived and enjoyed life to the full. He attended parties, dinners and hung out with the bad guys to the chagrin of the religious cabal. He lived an 'open-book' lifestyle that made him express emotions freely without a care. Though seen as a maverick and superstar among the masses and noble alike, he had nothing to hide. He was a squatter yet didn't play funny when a disciple asked for his house address; Jesus Christ was a floater in some sense. He borrowed boats without feeling ashamed. He borrowed a donkey since he had no chariot or cart to ride on to Jerusalem.

He publicly wept when his friend Lazarus died. Others may have felt he would act like a superstar, and do a show at the graveside. But all he did was cry...and the women and stoic men watched in amazement... but he still raised Lazarus from the dead. He didn't hide his fears when it became obvious his death on the cross was imminent. He cried at the Garden of Gethsemane.. .and on the Cross of Calvary, he cried like a disconsolate child: Father, why have you forsaken me, your only son...

As I reflected and meditated on the emotional life of Jesus, I felt a release and came to be at home with who I am...and I felt so free to be me. I had earlier told a respected friend how emotionally drained and weak I felt, but she quipped that she has always seen me as a 'Tower of Strength'. Maybe I had unwittingly presented myself to the significant others as one that is kinda 'superhuman' in some sense who can't feel drained and emotionally week. One who's mentally focussed to not go thro' any bouts of uncertainties... the list goes. But I am as human and frail as anyother and a part of humanity with all the emotional cramps and malaise that we so often hide from the next person.

I have begun a journey...to explore the emotional and relationship life of Jesus Christ....and I plan to share my thoughts in subsequent write-ups. Keep a date with me and ensure that you give attention to your emotional wellbeing.

Shalom.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ Not all of us will follow you to this Lah Lah land. Your Jesus is your only, not mine. Why are we still believing in this unproving person. I guess we are just the mugus that just follow-follow our english masters. Our mind is in bondage and lock down in chain. These europeans did a damn good job on our mind with their white Jesus, Their god discriminate between his choosing pp (white) and reject pp (black). They are the son of god, and we are their servant, they are the bright one, we are the dumb. What a fair minded god you worship. Xtianity is a man invention not a god intension. We've been screw royally. Organised religion are waste of our time, your conscience should be your guide to eternal happiness.

I Bet Any Bamboozled Afrikan A 1000 Pound To Prove Jesus Ever Lived, If In 2008 We Still Haven't Begun To See How That Phantom, Fiction, Charade Etc Has Been Used To Hoodwink Us Into Stupor And All The Other Privations We Suffer Then God (who Actually Exist) Help Us!!!.

We Need To Drop All Thing Alien To Afrika And Start To Rebuild Our Soo Shattered Lives And Pick Up The Pieces Pls People.

Jesus Is An Illusion Created Out Of Ancient Egyptian Myths To Control Us, And It Has Worked Well, Look At Nigeria For An Example, Churches In Every Corner, Yet The People Are Soo Poor, Hopeless, Corrupt, Wicked Etc.

Every Society That Has Imported The So Called Jesus Into Their Way Of Life Has Fallen In Moral Standards, And This Is A Checkable, Proven And Historical Fact, Pls Don't Give Me That Its Up To The Individual Line Of Excuse In Your Rebuttals, Just Check The Facts Or Read Gerald Masseys Book 'historical Jesus And The Mythical Christ' To See That Jesus Is Only A Figment Of A Corruptor's Wicked Imagination OR HIS OTHER BOOK WHICH TALKS ABOUT CONTRADICTIONS IN THE BIBLE TO SEE WHERE HE PUTS NUMEROUS EXAMPLE OF CHRISTIANITY HAS ACTUALLY DISTROYED THE MORAL FIBRE OF SOCIETIES IT ENTERS ( I WILL PROVIDE THE NAME OF THAT BOOK LATER).

Afrikans Have No Clue That Christianity Exist In Two Forms, One Esoteric And The One Given To Us To Compromise Us Is The Exoteric One, Which Will Be Destroyed Pretty Soon And At Least Then I Will Be Back If Alive To Say 'i Told You So'.

We Need To Wake Up God's Children, Time Is Running Short. Do Not Get Caught Up In Our Ancestor's Errors Learn From Them And Move On.

Pls For The Last Time, Jesus Did Not, Does Not And Will Never Exist. And Pls Do Not Get Too Emotional In Your Replies, Do Not Name-call Me Or Any One, Just Be Real And State Your Case In A Civilised Manner, Bring Extra Biblical Proof To Stamp Your Case.

God Bless
Amen

I wonder why 'some' get bothered and 'insulting' abt what 'others' believe or not.

Faith in 'whoever, whatever' should be an individual's sole business-as long as it doesn't hurt others' feeling or threathen others' existence.

Why should i be called names or derided 'cos i have believe in the 'greatest man that ever lived-Jesus.

@Delemajek: Nobody is insulting you , maybe the truth hurt. Your believe is derived on your parental upbringing, which they got from their parent, parent and so on, just hand me down. Most of these organize religion are like that, therefore, most pp dot choose their faith, it was choosing for them. The fact that you're a xtian not a muslim or buddhist means that was your exposures, you may know about other faith, but you primarilly know about xtian bcus of your environment, not bcus it is the right religion.

Just be honest to your self, your Jesus never says I am your personal saviour, I challenge you or anyone to find that in you bible, it is not there.

You say the greatest man that ever live, how do you know that, did you read it somewhere, or was it told to you by your parent or pastors? You cannot prove that statement. Be honest, european got the lock on our mind.

Delemajek, i don't remember anyone insulting you at all, that is now silently being eschewed from NVS and thank God at last we can start having proper discussions.
Back to the lecture at hand though, i ask you to first read my post and give a point by point reply to them and that of others here.

and i can even bet my left hand that you and many Xtians have never researched whether that man jesus ever existed aside from the contradictions about him in the bible?

for us to be truly free, we need to drop all foreign religion first, as it is the main chain sub-consciously holding us back, you just called him the greatest man that ever lived without providing historical proof at all. and before you use biblical references to justify your stance, be aware that we all know that the bible was written thousands of years before him, and that the books that talk about him where already written historically hundreds of years before he was substituted into them.
of the four books matt, mark, luke, john in that biblical order, mark was the first written (in the sense of substitution not originality), and this revision was done according to history 130 yrs after the supposed death of christ, so how can mark give a correct account of jesus even if he lived, or worse yet did mark outlive jesus by 130yrs? that would be wonderful.
how comes the first book mark takes second place to matt?

these are just a few things xtian are not aware of or chose to ignore to our detriment socially, economically, mentally and spiritally etc. we need reform by GOD's grace.

Bless u
AMEN

The real problem we are facing as people is the unconscionable and unacceptable poverty we are having in the midst of amazing wealth. This is still a mystery to me. As a man born into a Christian family, I have seen so much in this country to understand that Christianity has been turned to another ‘profitable business’ by smart crooks who have turned themselves to ‘men of God’. We have turned the Christianity issue to a strictly business issues, where pastors fight themselves in the open like feuding company directors. This has unfortunately given rise to another school of thought that now dispute the essence of the Christianity we are practicing.

There was an article ”men of God as con artist” where someone who I know is unsparing in condemning Government attitude to corruption, sadly tacitly giving support to the same corruption in the church by saying churches don’t need to make there financial records available to the church members because of armed robbers! What an opinion you may say. This really encapsulates the mindset to the Christianity that has sadly made our growth as a nation a stunted one. As religion is now used as a tool for retrogression instead of progression. A situation in which a man is ready to disorganize his small scale business by not paying his staff, but is willing to give his church #200,000 as a token while being assured of going to heaven. No nation grows with the kind of interpretation we give our religion here. The result is as stark in reality as our case implies.

The writer’s write up about Jesus Christ is interesting and nice in my opinion, but is it the general mindset about Jesus Christ with people who parrot his name? Your guess is as good as mine. These fellows want money the way an armed robber wants money in your house, whether the country as a whole is going down or not. The other day I read about a church planning to buy a $US20 million aircraft for her senior pastor, of course some commendations came for that move. You now want to wonder if Jesus, as described by the writer of the article, would be happy to get an aircraft like that with the mindless and criminal poverty pervading the land. Just last week, I went to Ota(outskirt of Lagos) to take an inventory of companies(factories to be precise) that are still functioning, what I found out was mind bugling. From my analysis only 15% of the industrial concerns have something to show, strangely I found out the main functioning, commercially viable and super profit making enterprise there is a church. The resources of this particular church are mind blowing. Can you now tell me God has delivered Ota people because of that church? When over 80% of factories there have turned comatose?
I just cried that day, as I could see vividly why lagos is daily becoming a dangerous place to live in, I cried because I could see that we are going down the drain with happiness, I cried because some smart people have been able to turn our poverty to there advantage.

Jesus as described in the Bible and other non religious books was a great man with astounding humility who takes the downtrodden as his people. Sadly many of his so called ‘disciples’ don’t believe in him(the way their own bible described his lifestyle), they only see him as a means to achieving their grand deceit. This has quite unfortunately brought out a rethink, even sometimes outright rejection, of his legacies.
