Hillary Clinton and the Politics of Desperation and Deception Print E-mail

However, since history is the greatest trickster of men and women, events of the last month have made it very clear that the Clinton campaign is heading for the quicksand. I identify four factors that have contributed to the politics of desperation in the Clinton campaign. The first act of desperation is her seizing upon and parading with the Race Card. Up until it became clear that she was losing; information about race was not a driving force. White Americans were joyously rallying around Barack Obama and thousands of young people and others from the larger community were flocking his campaign. All television coverage of Obama rallies showed enthusiastic Americans dramatizing a new America where people see elements of the Rainbow coalition in full force. Not only have the Obama supporters exploded the racial mythologies of the past, but they were actually creating a new sense of political solidarity among Americans. It was a social and political solidarity that goes beyond the wildest dreams of many Americans and others from abroad. Many political pundits wondered about the Obama phenomenon. Those who are racist at heart found the Obamamania a serious threat to their self-understanding and to their erroneous belief that America is for the whites, by the Whites, and no one else. Clearly the message of Obama negated such assumptions and the mighty power of the White electorate in twenty-five states of the Union simply confounded the Clinton . Apparently, the White voters did not buy the racially motivated campaign of the Clinton since their first assault in New Hampshire.

The beginnings of this politics of desperation could be traced back to the fiasco at Iowa . Stunned by their false perception of the new American voters and determined to win at any price, the Clinton campaign led by Bill Clinton through his fairy tale misstep and subsequent maneuvers, let go the poison of race throughout the atmosphere. This was a bad casting of the dye and a fatal exposition of the Clintons . The irony of this act of desperation led to the sad tragedy of the Hillary Clinton Campaign. After having created an image among blacks and in most of American society that the Clintons represented the highest form of racial accommodation with the Nation’s minorities and Bill himself was the first Black President, the Clintons made a one hundred and eight degrees paradigm shift by behaving as the mirror opposite of the illusion they helped create in the American mind. As President Reagan used to say in his campaign against former President Jimmy Carter , “here we go again.” This time the warning is coming out of the mouth of Barack Obama, the young and electric black politician whose charisma and powers of eloquence I wrote about in a piece on Hillary Clinton and the Presidency, published in the Nigerian Village Square. Not only did I state that Obama is a Super Bill Clinton whose towering presence would make life for Hillary frightening and threatening throughout the campaign, but his charisma and his performance would foil all the Clinton attempts at a coronation. Almost all my expectations materialized until the Race Card was magically introduced into the race through their slight of hand.

In New Hampshire, the Clintons and their political cohorts  resorted to mud slinging tactics by making fond of White men for their support of Obama and by deploying the services of Gloria Steinem of NOW fame, whose political rhetoric sent all sane American or foreign observer running home from her Medusa the Gorgon smell. Like the Greek mythical character she oozed venoms and if and when allowed petrified her victims. Again, like her mythical counterpart, she too wished to prevent a black leader from being elected and she sought devilish means to make strong and enthusiastic White men and women stones and mummies. Voters from Wisconsin and the other predominantly white areas of the U.S. negated this wish and Hillary and her partners in intrigues looked for another aspect of the Race Card. This now leads me to the exploitation of the Reverend Wright story. Thinking that Obama was making headway in the White community and the original use of the Race Card did not work because numerous whites were still voting for Obama, the Clintons tried desperately to make the young senator from Illinois a “ black candidate.” Going through a series of schemes in their list of things to do, they used innuendos and mischief to woo and win whites in a racially calculated style. Sensing the historical nature of bad blood between poor and blue color white workers and the black community and banking heavily on their frustrations and anger against affirmative actions, the Clintons played their hand. This helped her to win Ohio and Texas , even though we now know that the victory was not too significant because of Republican intrigues to add more power to a Hillary they believed would not survive serious and critical Republican campaign during the fall. Not only did the poor whites rally to them but they also got the Republicans who crossed over and voted for her. The Reverend Wright Attack came only when it became clear that her victories in Ohio and Texas were pyrrhic victories. This is to say, they won a battle and not the war. Obama is leading and nothing could stop him. The Reverend Wright Story has become the main weapon of last resource. Pennsylvania is the next battle ground and the Clintons wish to win at all cost, even if it means the destruction of their party.

Now we come to the final act of political desperation. Having used the Reverend Wright weapon of mass destruction, the Clinton political magicians captured the airways for more than a week. So tumultuous is this strategy that many white voters have been frightened by the media presentation of this old speech. This strategy has pushed most Americans back to their old bitter racial polarization and also has propelled many people towards the old racism many Americans hoped to conquer and bury forever. Obama is this Prophet of Hope and his speeches and activism have combined to create a New Day. The Clinton Campaign tried hard to derail this train of racial reconciliation and cooperation in America . Apparently, their nefarious acts are being exposed and her acts of political lies such as her claims of international experiences in Bosnia and elsewhere are beginning to unravel. There are still some weeks to go in Pennsylvania . May be more lies are waiting to unfold. The most critical test is the Clinton ’s income tax returns. Many people fear the Clintons do not want us to know about their unwanted Arab connections to come to light. After having collaborated with Arab sheikhs over the years and after receiving several million dollars for an Islamic Studies Program in his home state during the era of Ambassador Banda Ibn Sultan al Saudi, Bill Clinton cannot openly deny Arab money. Not only did Hillary return monies to Muslim Americans who were despised by their Jewish political rivals but she defiantly destroyed a healthy image of being the First Lady to host the first Iftar at the White House before the tragedy of 9/11. In her campaign for the Senate she picked and chose her Muslim friends and supporters but in the end she weakened her links. to that community. But during the Ohio campaign she benefited from the balloon of political chicanery when the falsehood that “Obama does not like Arabs,” gained currency.   Muslim friends known to me have traced this idea back to several Arabs in and out of Ohio . I guess this was a game to assure the Jewish community of her open support while feeding selfishly on the fading memories of her role in creating the Iftar legacy among the Arabs. It worked in Ohio and possibly in Texas among the few Arabs and Muslims there.

I do not know if I am the only one seeing this that Hillary Clinton ’s Campaign is a journey to nowhere. The statistics are against her and her acts of political aggressiveness and political manipulations of facts and realities are doomed to fail. Not an iota, not a dot will be left unveiled as bandanna of lies designed to advance the ambitions of a woman who loved to be another Margaret Thacker or an Indira Gandhi but at the same time shamelessly, is helping in the deflation of her own party in whose political ticket she is running for a possible presidential nominee. Apparently, in the logic of this family, winning means everything. Here lies the greatest irony of this campaign. Truth be told, the Clinton, as I have written over a year ago, earned the distinction of being the family that brought the Democrats back to power twice. This is a great legacy and they deserve all the honors. However, their political ambition has driven them to undermine their great achievements and drove a wedge between Democrats. Many people angry with them, because these people now see them for what they really are, politicians of deception..

Speeches, according to them are the stuff that makes Obama, but in actual fact, words for them as tools to be used to hoodwink and fool people when you need them. They used words to capture the black bondage of political imagination but they changed radically when their personal ambition dictated otherwise. During the campaign these facts have come to light and we will have much to say after the elections in Pennsylvania . Will the real Clintons be exposed by the voters of this great state and by the mighty power of History?.  Time will tell.
