Iran's Perestroika And Glasnot .....Democracy Or Subversion? PDF Print E-mail
By Deji Saanu

Today, the spiritual leader of Iran, Ayatollah Khamenei gave a speech and l waited all over the T.V western media, hoping to get an English translation of the speech (just like l have been keeping a copy of major speeches by Obama) so that l can get a complete view of what he said. What l have come to realize is that the western media only dishes out small-small “sound-bites” of areas they find suitable to their own hidden agenda. They did the same thing during the American election when they bombarded us with a sound-bite of Rev Jeremiah Wright, in an effort to bring down Obama’s election campaign. Today, all that is history

Finally, l got a full translation and the video.

http://www.shiatv.net/view_video.php?viewkey=42562c0d031ff830ad09

Listen it and make your own judgments concerning how the likes of CNN, BBC and other Pro-Western media have portrayed the speech.

Robert Frisk of the of the U.K “Independent Newspaper called it a “THREATENING SPEECH”! “It was a threatening speech, he basically said: 'Enough is enough - from now on, no more street protests.'”  I was expecting the Iranian people to “stone” the Ayatollah, if his speech does not resonate with them or is as portrayed by the western media!

The speech is included as a background which highlights the duplicity the west uses when it comes to standards it tables for its allies and those that are not.

The thrust of my essay is summarized by the question: Who stands to gain from an Iranian “implosion”?

No one deliberately sets his house on fire, aside people who are suicidal and by my reckoning, Iranians are not suicidal.

Followers of the Iranian election and comments about it in the western media would agree that the turn-out of the election was a surprise! 85%, 40Million people turn-out was not something anyone expected from an Islamic republic with a bad image in the west.

Western media have predicted a low turn-out with one side of their mouth, to justify labeling the election a sham but due to so many factors, including how the U.S meddled in the Lebanese election which concluded a week earlier, where a pro-western “Hariri faction” won the election though, not without the bastardization of the political process with American dollars (election for cash) and the subtle intimidation of the Lebanese people (withdrawal of financial aid, visit and pressure by American Vice President and foreign secretary, Biden and Clinton respectively, economic sanctions, e.t.c).

We must observe a-priori that there is a big and dangerous power struggle going-on in the Middle East and the more pro-American governments installed around there, the more comfortable America and Israel would be and the more difficult it would be, to force the hands of America and Israel in particular, in accepting a two state solution or one that gives Palestinians a “true sovereignty” even when and if a two-state solution becomes impossible to avoid.

So, with Lebanon securely in the bag, the next stop is Iran, an even bigger prize since what happens at this election might decide another middle-east war, between Israel, supported by America …and Iran, supported by Hammas and Hezbollah.

On one hand, we have those who feel cheated that their vote have been stolen or diverted and on the other hand, we have those who feel anything short of a pro-American leader in Iran, is a disaster in-waiting for the middle east.

Mousavi and his supporters are obviously pro-western, he has made a lot of promise which seems to go well with western culture and thinking. It is widely suggested that Almedinajad is too anti-American and his quest for the bomb, is unstoppable through peaceful means.

So, “the west”, using all its influence and propaganda machine, is keen on seeing him out of power, a repetition of the “Lebanese upset” but what a shock it got when the electoral board, our own version of INEC, announced a “wuru-wuru” result (as the opposition claimed) that gave the “bad boy” an unprecedented 65% victory! Like the Ayatollah observed, eleven million votes is not an easy number to steal!

Immediately after the announcement of the result, the western destabilization machinery went to work. From a U.S administration that initially claimed it will respect the wishes of the Iranian electorate, an a white house mouth-piece that said America will not interfere in Iranian electoral process, the mood quickly swung and snippets of “prompting and inciting” the Iranian opposition party to “violently protest” the election began to litter the E-space.

Every interview about the Iranian election on western media seems to end with the inciting question of “whether Iranians will accept the result or take to the streets in protest”?

Of course, Mousavi, sensing that he has the backing of the western powers, took the bait and began to rally his supporters, using the electronic and social networking sites.

Knowing the power of the internet, some faceless Western-based, “international experts and analyst” on Iranian politics were invited to foreign media houses principally to “predict by incitement”, that Iranians must take to the street and protest the election result!

Lets us assume for now that the election were rigged.

The questions that begs an answer are:

1. Must foreign governments, notably the American and British, encourage the Iranians to take to the streets to protest such rigging?

2. Is civil unrest and wanton destruction of property, breach of law and general insecurity, the only avenue left to seek redress in a disagreement about election result?

3. Why the urgent and fervent interest in seeing chaos descend on Iran, on account of this election so much so that the American government has to unmask itself and its biased position by asking Facebook not to undertake its planned maintenance, just to ensure that the stoked fire of protest does not diminish?

4. Is it right for foreign government to so blatantly interfere in the internal affairs (that’s what an election is) of another “hostile” government?

These interference, those who are “for it” and those who are “against it”, is not all about love for the Iranians and the entrenchment of democracy in Iran, there is a bigger picture and a bigger prize at stake. Its all about the soul of Iran and its sovereignty, Its position in the middle east.

While l do not support “election rigging” as it truncates the will of the people, while l do not have any love for Almadenajad, l am much more concerned about its history of “proneness” to foreign meddling.

Recently, in his speech in Cairo, the American President made a long overdue apology for its role in the C.I.A sponsored coup in Iran, in the 1970’s which toppled the Shah’s regime and replaced it with an American puppet. History is about to repeat itself and one is forced to wonder whether such apology was actually genuine and from a contrite heart or whether it was just done to “soften” the ground for a bigger onslaught on the Iranian nation!

Iran wont be the first country that America subverted their democratic process and installed a stooge. It happened in Chile, Nicaragua and some other latin-American countries including Cuba (Bay of Pigs), most East African countries, Vietnam and so on. The “hand of America” in the death of Gen. Muritala Muhammed, here in Nigeria in 1973 is documented for those who care to find out.  As former President G.W. Bush puts it, “You are either with us or you’re (with the) a terrorist”. That is the definition of American foreign policy.

So, the current prodding’s that aggrieved Iranians should take to the street, in protest of the election result, should be seen from a wider angle. Elections have been rigged in America, the recent one been the 2004 election that returned G.W. Bush to the white house. The rigging was so apparent in the state of Florida. The Human rights activist of the western world and European Union, the BBC’s, CNN’s, other western media and the “arm-chair analysts” of this world did not ask Americans to go on rampage and start burning, looting and face the military head-on!. That would have been an invitation to chaos and lawlessness. They knew it was wrong to advocate that.

We are all witness to the peaceful way Al Gore went about accepting defeat, albeit grudgingly but he never once made a ‘call to arms’. Americans were “smart enough” not to destroy their own country, on the face of a rigged election. American were smart enough to make recourse to election tribunals and other channels of redress, as laid down in electoral laws, the same message that Ayatollah Khomeini sent to his people today, that foreign and western media are caricaturing as an “insult to the Iranian people”! What a double-speak!!

Figures have it that between fifteen to thirty people have lost their lives as a result of these protest, a needless waste.

Another question that arise is “why does America always prescribe a different set of pill for others, than it prescribes for itself”? Is it deliberate or just a coincidence that American “prescription of democracy” to other nations always result in the weakening of such country’s military and area of influence or the installation of an American puppet government in such countries. Let’s take a prominent example.

Back in the 70’s, there was relative calm in the world, after the second world war, the emergence of Russia, (as in USSR), and America as the two main regional power, led to a policy of “balance of terror and nuclear deterrence”.

It’s on record that the only country that have ever used a nuclear weapon is America, on its current ally (out of total submission) Japan, at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Till today, Japanese and South Korean security is heavily dependent on American fire-power and “say-so”.

It is widely accepted that the American invasion of Iraq and its current war in Afghanistan which has spilled into Pakistan, would never have happened, had the ‘balanced of terror’ that existed when we had a strong USSR and a bi-polar world power, continued.

So, there is danger in having only “one bully” in the neighborhood!

It was through the “excuse” of fostering “democracy” that the then Russian leader, the drunken Gorbachev, was tricked into applying the policies of GLASNOT and PERESTROIKA, (and he got a Nobel laureate from America, in return!) which led to the complete disintegration of his country USSR, and the weakening of their military strength. The rest as they say, is history. Iranians, especially the leaders of the opposition that have aligned themselves with their American and European backers, need to be very cautious and “shine their eyes” less they become another “Gorbachev”, drunken and blinded by American promise. How.

Today, American policy is about weakening other nations so that they can maintain their own superiority. Iranians must put things in proper perspective and look at the "bigger picture". If Americans went through the courts and proper legal channels to settle their own election dispute, why are they pushing you to set your country on fire, to challenge the election result?

They are setting you-up for the final kill...a blow to your heart! A disintegration!!

Israel, supported, maintained and armed by America, to be the only super-power in the Middle-East, is waiting to bomb your Iran into submission. The plan is that Israel should controls the Middle-East, as the only nuclear-powered super power while America controls the whole world but then, we know that Israel also calls the shot in America so, in the long run, the plan is for Israel to control the world through its American proxy.

Today, the greatest obstacle to America and Israel, in their quest for domination of the middle east is Iran. Israel is at a critical junction where it must decide to either continue its genocidal war on the Palestinians or harken to the voice of reason and allow a two-state, peaceful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to occur. Using superior military, Israel has dominated the Palestinians for long, it continues to build settlements on their lands in defiance of U.N resolutions, it used Napalm/Phosphorus on them during their last conflict, weapons of war that had been banned world over (America interestingly did the same in Iraq!) and Israel is still at a loss at how it can accomplish, as fait-accompli, the final annexation of Jerusalem for itself only, even in a two state solution.

If a two state solution is to happen, Israel wants it to be a “state-on-paper”, with Israel controlling the borders, energy source, and such Palestinian state can not have its own defense forces, its defense must be at the behest of an Israeli government!

Difficult positions to accomplish but one which can be accomplished with the aid and support of an American super-power and “no-challenge” from anyone in the Islamic world, the major possible challengers being Hammas, Hezbollah in Lebanon, (won over already), possibly Syria and Iran.

So, the only ones who stand to benefit from another “Perestroika and Glasnot” in Iran is majorly the Israelis, the Americans and their kow-towing European allies (Boot-lickers). This is the picture that Mousavi and his protesters must be made to see, even if they must continue in their violent challenge of the election result.

Aside military hardware and technology, population is the other major factor for any aspiring world power. No matter how rich Japan is, it will not go beyond being an economic power but China, with its huge population, is assuming its rightful place in world politics. Were China to be “split-up into tiny nations” today, it will simply transform into another Russia – Angry and rich but less powerful.

Americans and Europeans are generally wary of Muslim nations (France is considering banning the wearing of the veil by Muslim women in France). The major issue lies with the clash, not of culture as is often used in a façade, but of religion.

But religion in itself, is a “way of life” and therefore a major factor in “culturalization” of the people.

In a ‘subtle spread’ of its own religion and therefore culture, the west is trying very hard to uproot Islamic culture, using a very attractive tool; democracy, but who says Islam and democracy cant go hand-in-hand?

Thus, for the spread of western religion to take root in the middle east, and for Israel to be able to dominate and call the shots in the middle east, for its occupation of Palestinian lands to become a fait-accompli and unchallengeable in the future, the strength of the Israeli military in that region must be over-whelming.

An Iranian nation that is Muslim, cohesive, unfriendly with Israel and seeking the nuclear option, is not only a challenge to the broader Israeli objective, it is unthinkable.

Having stated repeatedly that it considers Iran as an “existential threat”, Israel is prepared to do anything to bring Iran to its knees but the American prefer a “soft bomb”, as an internal uprising would present, causing a “self implosion” through internal unrest, and the installation of a weak, pro-American puppet as leader.

This is the danger that the current “electoral impasse” brings to the Iranian table and the Iranian citizenry needs to be educated about being careful concerning what they wish for.

Since American and European leaders are suddenly proclaiming their unalloyed support for the Iranian people (and what is ‘a people’, without its government?), one can never be too suspicious when such encouragement is put in tandem with their rabid (or morbid) opposition on its quest for nuclear power and “nuclear military option” bearing in mind that Israel, a nation in the middle east and a sworn enemy of Iran, have the same nuclear weapons.

In disagreement with president Obama, the nuclear proliferation in the middle east would not start with Iran’s quest for a nuclear weapon, it already started long ago when Israel was clandestinely assisted by America, to get one!

It is an impartial view that “balance of power/terror is a better deterrence” than polarization of power in one country. Some have said that the only reason that North Korea, a member of the axis of Evil, has not been invaded by America, is because it has the nuclear deterrent and should Iraq have been smart enough to accelerate its nuclear program the way the North did, it would still have its sovereignty intact as of today. This is a lesson Iran is learning and very fast too.

Mousavi and the opposition must know that their “violent” demonstration could have a far reaching consequence not only on Iran but also on Palestine’s future and the middle east as a whole.

It is fair and desirable to seek redress for electoral fraud, through approved channels of the electoral system and “make your point” if such legal challenges are unsuccessful but the opposition must not loose sight of “wolves masquerading as democratic friends”. Its not just about election rigging anymore, its the survival and sovereignty of Iran that is being tested.

To the Iranians, l would say “Listen to your spiritual leader, resolve your electoral differences through LEGAL CHANNELS”! Incitement to Violence is an ill-wind that blows no one any good.....and dont forget, your enemies, masquerading as your "democratic friends", are waiting on the wings, to crush you, so that Israel can once again, go unchallenged, in its occupation of Palestinian land and slavery of its people.

Disagree but don’t destroy your Republic. Remember, "A great civilization can not be destroyed from the outside unless it first destroys itself from the inside".

Are the Iranian Election Protests Another US Orchestrated ‘Color Revolution’?

By Paul Craig Roberts

June 20, 2009 "Information Clearing House" -- -A number of commentators have expressed their idealistic belief in the purity of Mousavi, Montazeri, and the westernized youth of Terhan. The CIA destabilization plan, announced two years ago (see below) has somehow not contaminated unfolding events.

The claim is made that Ahmadinejad stole the election, because the outcome was declared too soon after the polls closed for all the votes to have been counted. However, Mousavi declared his victory several hours before the polls closed. This is classic CIA destabilization designed to discredit a contrary outcome. It forces an early declaration of the vote. The longer the time interval between the preemptive declaration of victory and the announcement of the vote tally, the longer Mousavi has to create the impression that the authorities are using the time to fix the vote. It is amazing that people don’t see through this trick.

As for the grand ayatollah Montazeri’s charge that the election was stolen, he was the initial choice to succeed Khomeini, but lost out to the current Supreme Leader. He sees in the protests an opportunity to settle the score with Khamenei. Montazeri has the incentive to challenge the election whether or not he is being manipulated by the CIA, which has a successful history of manipulating disgruntled politicians.

If it looks like Dog-shit, smells like Dog-shit, its actually Dog-shit!

Poor Mousavi, his greed-driven brain will not allow him to learn+imbibe the lessons of history!!
He needs to learn from the former Pakistani President what the phrase "Use and Dump", means in American lexicon.

.

What context was it. In my own understanding, it was you were either with the USA in its so called 'war on terror' or against it. That means I was not allowed to sit on the fence and remain neutral. If I saw Americas terrorists as Freedom fighters (like many people do) then I am an enemy as well.

The war on terror has created more terrorists (overused word with no clear definition) and has caused more terror and loss of lives that will make Osama Bin Laden envious.

Where was their "freedom, human rights and democracy" posture, when they were doing "these" to innocent Muslims?
If it was Iran that did these things, what will we say, now tha it is America, what are we saying?

http://www.time.com/time/qu...

How can a government that prides itself about "Human-Rights" and interferes on behalf of "oppressed" Iranians, not give a hoot about granting "Animal-Rights" to those who disagree with its positions on international issues?

One law for its allies, another law for its perceived enemies, right?
