News Flash...Peter Obi of APGA Declared Winner in Anambra State Print E-mail
Friday, 12 August 2005
Thirty minutes ago, the Election Tribunal sitting in Awka , the Anambra state capital finally declared Peter Obi the winner of the 2003 election held in Anambra state, two and half years after. Yesterday, the police commissioner in Anambra state warned parents not to allow their wards to partake in any form of demonstration as a result on the verdict. There was heightened security in the state in preparation for today’s verdict. Apparently, he must have been informed of the outcome and they feared the response that will come from the masses in the state

As you read this, the tension in Anambra state is building up. In a telephone interview I just had with one of the Chris Ngige Boys five minutes ago, he confidently told me that they are going the weather the present storm and lamented why OBJ and the PDP administration are bent on kicking their man out of the government house. He added that they are moving into an emergency meeting to chart the way forward and that I should get back to him later this night.

Thank God finally that we have seen justice after all these long delays. The questions however are: what happened to the presidential election that was equally rigged in the state in favor of PDP and OBJ? Why did the Supreme Court through out the case of Buhari? Why didn't other election tribunal across the country judge in favor of other opposition parties in the country that were equally rigged out? Where do we go from here? Is this the case of dominance by aggression rather than wisdom? Justice between the duke and a horse-man?

This judgment has raised many questions than answers as we watch the drama unfold in my beloved state. Justice at last, but we still have a long long way to go. We are watching.
