An Ibo President: A Mission Impossible! Nigeria's 419 constitution (Part 4) PDF Print E-mail
By Bode Eluyera

"In a time of universal deceit - telling the truth is a revolutionary act."

- George Orwell

DO YOU LOVE NIGERIA?  ARE YOU READY TO DIE FOR NIGERIA?

How can a country test the patriotizm of its citizens? What do you think? Please try to answer this question before reading on. In my opinion, it is through the number of its citizens that are ready to pick up arms voluntaryly, and defend its territorial integrity, if his coutry is attacked. You will surely agree with me that nothing is more valuable than life. Do you agree with me?   How many people can the Federal Government count on today to pick up arms happilly, voluntaryly and defend its territory incase of attack? Are you ready to pick up arms and die defending the integrity of Nigeria? Please answer before reading on. It is very important.

ONE NIGERIA. ONE NATION. WHO IS IT BENEFITTING? AT WHOSE EXPENSE?

If you answer yes, you are either out of your mind, or most likely from the north, or you benefit tremendously from the present regime and structure, or all of the above. Personally, I am not ready to do that now, and I will never do it! And, I am sure millions of Nigerians will not too. Mind you, I am not saying that one's country is not worth dying for, but not today's Nigeria. Olorun m'aje! So, who wants to die for today's Nigeria? Is the Ndi-Igbos that the Federal Government massacred mercilessly between 1967-1970, and not long ago  again in the north, expect to carry up arms and defend Nigeria's integrity? Or, does the Federal Government rely on  the oppressed, terrorised, suppressed, colonised Niger deltans out of patriotizm and gratitudes to do that?

I am 100% sure that if Nigeria is attacked today by a foreign country, instead of voluntaryly carrying up arms, and lay down their lives  defending it, in  contrast, a large number will be glad to collaborate with the "enemy?" for free. Millions will cross to the other side. It is unfortunate, though, it is the bitter truth, that after the  forced and unequal marriage between the south and the north, known as "amalgamation" in 1914, the Federal Government can only rely on a very few to defend it. If any senior government official diagrees with my assertion, I openly challenge him to conduct an independent opinion poll in different parts of the country, and make the result known to the public.

As I have already said, personally,  I can't even risk my health, talkless of my life for the integrity of the present Nigeria. However, if an enemy attacks Yoruba land, as a true son of Oduduwa, I am ready to carry up arms voluntaryly and fight till my last blood.  Oduduwa Republic is totally different from Nigeria.

The bitter truth is that only the north or northerners will carry up arms to defend Nigeria's integrity simply because their existence and survival depend on Nigeria's existence.  Today, only the north is for the integrity of Nigeria because the Niger delta oil is their life blood. Only the descendants of Othman Dan Fodio care most whether Nigeria breaks or not, because they benefit most from the present Nigerian political system and constitution. It is the lazy, barbaric, backward, illiterate, unproductive, parasitic and lovers of Bin Laden that today's Nigerian political structure favours most, and they will do  everything within their capacity to maintain the status quo. Political events unfolding now is an evidence of my assertion.

You probably need further explanation. From my analysis, with the present political structure and constitution that Nigeria operates, all things being equal, if a presidential election is held at any time t, at least in the next 50 years, the probability or chance of a northerner becoming the president is 75%, compared to 20% for the S.W., and 2.5% each for the S.E. and S.W. respectively. This data can also be interpreted like this: If 10 consecutive presidential elections are held from today in Nigeria based on the present constitution and political structure, the north has a good chance of producing the president 7-8 times, the S.W. 2-3 times, the chances of the  Ndi-Igbos and the S.S.  are practically zero. You might want to know how I arrived at these figures or percentages. I will definitely explain.

Dear Bode,

Regarding the issue of Igbo presidency and SS presidency and their zero chances, I think this is one challenge that any Nigerian constitution might find prudent to address in the near future because it has continued to be the reason why the emergence of Nigeria as great nation has indeed become a mission impossible. It is like the US aspiring to be great while denigrating the various indigenous Indian tribes.
On the issue of a foreign invasion of Nigeria, I think you are being hypothetical. Firstly, no country is willing to invade Nigeria, for what? Secondly, Nigerians have a way of mobilising in the face of an external onslaught. Nigerians were willing to fight for Bakassi for instance but government was afraid that separatist tendencies in that area of Nigeria might cash in on the crisis to break away. However they forgot that the loss of Bakassi have handed these forces even more ammunition to continue pressing with their demands because the heart of the people of Bakassi for a long time will remain with Nigeria and many patriots in 20 to 30 years time will question the unpatriotic nature of that decision. :frown: :frown:

In the interest of State Security, people who say "Ibo" instead of "Igbo" shoud be arrested and detained indefinitely by the State Security Services forthwith...

And NO, I have NOT read this piece...yet. (Yeah I know, who bloody cares?)

My brother Bode, please no need to bother yourself analysing the born to rule scenario of the North which we already know.If you ask me, i would say even the Yoruba also have zero chance of producing the president in future. After what Obasanjo has done with power, i doubt if there is any Yoruba the North can trust again.

Imagine this: They never trusted Awolowo who helped them in prosecuting the war, they never trusted Abiola who was also a muslim, and ran on a muslim, muslim ticket, they only trusted Obasanjo, because after Murtala,s death he became their boy boy who served their interests very very well. But now Obasanjo has dissapointed them, so the road is also closed for the Yoruba.

The Yoruba and Igbo are roughly the same in population, so the percentage of ethnic votes should give both the Igbo and Yoruba about the same chance, however you cannot win elections in Nigeria on the strenght of only your ethnic group, that was why neither Awolowo, Zik,Ojukwu, nor Olu falae who had bloc ethnic votes could rule Nigeria.Abiola succeeded because he was able to reach out to other zones through his long years of charity.

The Igbo have a problem of Igbophobia as a result of the civil-war and other injustices. However the challenges before an Igbo or Yoruba candidate in future would be how they are able to reach out to other zones. This to a large extent would depend on individual capabilities, name recognition etc. Peter Odili and Donald Duke actually went very far and almost succeeded. People like Ken Nnamani, Pat Utomi etc may do very well in future. Utomi is already very popular, but his party has no money and is very weak. If Utomi had been a candidate in a major party like PDP, he would stand a very good chance. Dora Akunyili also has a good name recognition, i remember some northerners tried to force her into the presidential race but she refused. Yoruba has candidates like Bola Tinubu, Gbenga Daniels, Olabode George etc who may also be able to reach out to others zones outside their ethnic groups. The North will continue to be an obstacle, and will like to make sure no Southerner rules Nigeria again. Let's wait and see what the future will bring.

But it should also be noted that Nigerians deserve the kind of leadership they are getting. Let the Northern Almajiri's rule us untill the day Southerners will become smart enough to unite and either breakaway or demand a sovereign national conference.

By the way, i also noticed your eye catching Igbo president stuff in your title to attract people to read your article. Nigerians as always love to read issues related to tribes. I can assure you , you wont be dissapointed.

finally my dear Bode, killings in the North is a national problem which affects all Southern Nigerians residing there, and even people from the middle belt. Zango kataf riots sometime ago and the recents riots in Plateau state that led to the imposition of a state of emergency was strictly between Northerners. Recently a Yoruba lady was killed in Gombe state by religious fanatics. please stop being ignorant.

Dear Tony,

Sometimes the truth is very bitter! All what you said were not far from the truth. Your points, as a matter of fact, constitutes some of the anomalies that have made Nigeria an amalgam of uncertainty.

Some Yoruba groups have started, as usual, to call for their long-yearned regional autonomy. Well, It is a good idea to express ones desire than having to be like some few, who would rather take a "suffering and smiling" attitude than standing up for justice and fairness.

I don't care who emerges the president now, but any visionary leader in Nigeria must know that while democracy takes hold, the inevitability of inclusive politics, review of the structure of governance, transparency visàvis demography and national policies CAN NOT be ruled out.

A time will come when Ndigbo, Ndi-Yoruba and the rest of Nigeria would be able, like the Ghanaians, Mauritanians, South Africans and other emerging democracies to choose their leaders.

Then, no one or group would have the political guts to foist an incompetent leader/weird soldier on us.
We would have then been free, even as "one Nigeria" would have then become a worthy phrase to embrace.

Hi, Obi!

Been 'a minute' since we last saw you around here..

Welcome Back - but remember: Obi is NO Tony Okocha!

He hates the Hausa, he hates the Yorubas just as much.

The Ijaw nko? "Ogogo-drinking bunch" they are in his eyes.

That much he has revealed severally on this Pages.

Never will you find him making your kind of statements.

So beware who you associate yourself with, Obi!

Yeah, we don't care who leads us out of the Conundrum

Yes, some of us are AGAIN agitating for our Identity!

But guess what? Unlike Tony & Co. we do it Respectfully!

We are not putting others down to raise ourselves...

And there lies the difference in peoples' Agitation!

Not in a Million years will Tony and Gang appreciate that!

Auspicious.

Why all of a sudden, there has been clamour from some sections of Nigeria to either breakaway or that Nigeria should go to hell for all they care. As i told my African brother one Mr. Remi 'THAT A UNITED NIGERIA IS A TASK THAT MUST BE DONE' we are all 40 years too late now to start crying, we are like chicken that was struggling when its head is already off. I am too deep into Nigeria now.
What we should all do is pray to any God that we know to give us a leader with vision, at least we are entitled to that after almost 50 years of vagabonds running our lives. I HAVE QUESTIONS FOR YOU ALL, MR.BIAFRA, MR. ODUDUWA, MR. NIGER DELTA AND OTHERS CLAMOURING FOR THEIR OWN NATIONHOOD. Do you all think if we all have our little enclave, called nationhood, we will be all happy? i may not know the answer, but i for one believe in one Nigeria, but that we have been very unfortunate with leadership right from independent, maybe we may be fortunate this time around when Baba Iyabo goes, that goes our link with old Nigeria (just kidding, who knows the mind of man that will take over from him).
Freedom, justice and equality was never given to anybody by the ruling elites, we have to demands it, we saw people's power with IBB, we push him out, we can still do that with our common future or else these vagabonds in power will never give it to us (in the words of BABA 70, the one and only Fela, 'we have to fight for am' from Original Sufferhead album).
The majority of the people in the north are suffering like us southerners, despite them been used by religion zealots. WE SHOULD ALL CALLED FOR A UNITED STATES OF AFRICA, where ethnicity, religion and tribalism will not have any place to abode.
One thing we should all know before you are a ibo, yoruba, igala, hausa, ashanti, ewe and etc you are first seen as an AFRICAN, the others come later.
All of what is stated above does not mean we should not renegotiate our living together, we should, but if there is any referendum on the issue i will vote for a UNITED NIGERIA, WHERE UNITY IN DIVERSITIES WILL BE OUR STRENGTH. SOVEREIGN NATIONAL CONFERENCE NOW.
HERE I STAND. GOD BLESS NIGERIA AND AFRICA.

TONY,
Good thinking..... good product, your comment of course is very valid.
I did my NYSC in the North and came back to the south with aching heart for a nation that we have just on paper. The boundary of the true and realistic Nigeria is Jos, any thing beyond Jos is outside Nigeria or foreign land. Majority of those clamoring for one Nigeria have never stepped out of the southern zone.

I am a Yoruba man but one tribe that I have so much feelings for is Igbo, the political scheming during elections has always relegated the Igbos to the background which is why they are never given any recognition, which is why i am not surprised that they are begining to accept their man made fate.
Who says an Igbo man can not rule Nigeria? But we all know that the constitution to always scheme out an Igbo man from ruling Nigeria is in the heart of every Northern politician and not on paper, the executioners begin to scheme them out before and during every wining party primary. We all saw these executioners doing their thing in NPN, SDP, PDP.

As for we Yorubas ....... we just blew the chance of clinching the presidency ever again.

I have just posted an article on "Why Biafra Must Be Born Again." when I came to the site after posting it to update myself I saw this article. It is straight to the point. I have read reactions to my other articles and I still have others coming. I know something is "cooking in Nigeria". Time is running out. We are all fiddling thinking that "it will be well." Nothing is more delusional than that. You can not force anyone, MAN or WOMAN into any marriage and expect the marriage to last, especially when everytime you look around you are being violated and abused by the other partner. Based on my limited anthropologial understanding of man, NIGERIA WILL NOT SURVIVE. It is not a matter of IF, it is a matter of WHEN and HOW. The CHOICE of HOW is ours. We need to make that now before it is too late. The elements are gathering. Not every human being who breaths can feel. Not every one who have eyes can see. Not every one who have ears can hear. Like Great Awo use to say "Only the deep can call to the deep."
Remi
