It was not only my thinking that I thought. It was God's love personified. It was the collective consciousness of the entire world thinking together, in unison with pride that hope has finally won: Hope of the people. The love and beauty I saw at Chicago, Grant Park, on November 4th, 2008 knew no boundaries- this love that I speak of was expressed through President elect Barrack Obama, as he said his acceptance speech. The love he bore beamed around the world for all to feel. Fortunately, this love has to work through some being or path to freedom- a mind that is willing to comprehend it and expressed it, and this mind has come in the person of Barrack Obama so people from around the world can see what is possible. When I was nudged to vote during the primary. I knew it was not an ordinary force that jerked me out of my bed, reminding me that I had only one day left to do my early voting. Before the Election Day I did not wait to be reminded. I took permission from my boss two days prior, so I didn’t have to wait in long lines. The force that jerked me to go out and vote was a force so powerful, a movement of change that swept the entire nation and world. Like I said it before that when Barrack Obama wins, he will not just win for himself, but for the entire people of African decent and also for people from across every culture around the world to see what is possible. What I KNOW FOR SURE is that, a shift had occurred on November 4th, 2008. And that shift is the psychological awareness that we as people around the world, especially people of African decent can never be the same in terms of feeling less powerful- because the power to do better has emerged. A paradigm shift occurred and it is that of the collective view that we are really one, and if different, it is just marginal. As is in the cultural variations. For if, and when we untangle this web called culture, we will see that underneath it all, we are one unifying spiritual being. This shift is needed to happen in the collective consciousness of the world to see that the other person is so alike in every thing, but perhaps different only in the color of the skin or cultural. As I walked home with friends, I saw on the faces of every Chicagoan and visitors, the feeling of hope realized. Everyone was walking tall and so proud of a major accomplishment. You know, that kind of feeling that is subtle, yet some what obvious- the expression that exerts it self by saying, I too matter... As Will Smith said it on Oprah, a day after the election- that “some times it’s so had to believe the truth, especially after feeling so rejected for such a long time”. But the feeling was real, and the hope was finally realized across the nation that, yes, we can change for the better. If a man with the name Barrack Obama can actually win the race to the White house, then anything when worked towards is just as possible, perhaps not as a president, but in what ever one does. The truth has been realized that one can be what they choose to be regardless of the obstacles- and nothing more profound that this: that a child of African father has risen to win an election as the President of the United States of America. What a joy. I was there too... Unfortunately, my blackberry pearl could not capture the moment. The battery went dead. Could you imagine that? But all the same, the feeling and force of change has been sealed on the breast plate of my heart. Yes, one thing I know for sure is that I will never be the same after November 4th, 2008, because a shift has occurred- a force to do something differently and better than ever before.
