WHO SAYS MEN CANNOT CHANGE INTO ANIMALS WITH AFRICAN SCIENCE?

 By AISAGBON OMOGIADE

The controvercy generated by the Kwara State police command by parading a goat or a sheep as an armed robbery suspect- a man. who changed into the animal to avoid arrest was a news item world-wide .The Police Public Relations Officer according to many observers, brought the image of Nigeria to disrepute for having the courage to display a domestic animal as a robbery suspect.

The vigilante group who “arrested” the goat before it was handed over to the police is still insisting that the domestic animal was actually a human being who transformed into a goat to avoid arrest. Our most prolific writers have aired their views. They saw it as an embarrassment to display and detain a domestic animal, who can neither talk nor has features to handle a gun or drive for making attempts to steal a car.

The story attracted lots of comments on our dear website-NVS. Some commentators saw the action of the police as arrant nonsense and a high display of ignorance .Some even thought it was an avenue for police men attached to the station the animal was detained to have a plate of goat- meat pepper-soup free of charge.

A week or so earlier, there was also an incident where a passenger of an Okada was said to have turned into a tuber of yam as soon as he placed the safety- helmet on his head. The tuber of yam, the Okada operator, were said to have been detained at a police station in Lagos.

My comment on NVS was that, the suspect-goat and the yam should be kept in the same cell and if the goat refuses to eat the yam, then some mysterious things were happening. My reasons:

I would want to quickly state that I am a Christian and if you like, born again in the biblical context and not doctrinal or denominational. I am not trying to advertise any idol or deity but merely using them as examples to buttress my point. For this reason, I will not mention the names of the deities, idols, towns and villages that may be used as examples.

Many years ago, a British researcher went to the Azande ( territory now known as Central African Republic) to learn more about the people’s belief on witchcraft. His first contact with the locals brought to an end the research he prepared for that could take some months or years.

Two suspects were brought before the elder of the village. They were accused of stealing. Two fowls were ordered for by the elder. The elder mentioned the first suspect’s name and forced a concoction into the throat of the fowl. The fowl ran off as soon as it was left. The second fowl went through the same process but died instantly .The second suspect was now proved to be the thief.

The researcher begged for a little of the concoction which was eventually taken to ICI(Imperial Chemical Industries) for analysis. The researcher was startled to know that the concoction was capable of killing a human being within three minutes. Why then did first fowl survive when the name of the innocent suspect was mentioned before the concoction was forced down its throat?

To say this is superstition is tantamount to doubting whether Pharaoh’s magicians did turn their staff to snakes when the biblical staff of Moses turned into a snake .The people of most parts of Europe are still superstitious till date. The Italians and Greeks are superstitious about coming across a black cat, if a mirror falls and break, spilled cooking oil and salt ,while the Germans believe that when a man presents a gift of a pair of shoes to a woman, he is paving way for her to run away. The British themselves, from 16th to 18th centuries executed more than four hundred persons for unproved accusation of witchcraft. Superstitions are quite different from Mysteries.

There is a yearly festival in a mini- town of the northern part of Edo State where a particular deity is appeased with slaughtered goats and fowls. The soup of okro that is used for the pounded yam that serves as meal for the participants throughout the period of the festival, is always from the okro-seeds- planted and harvested within a few minutes.

In another village, a few kilometers from the Edo State capital, the yams that are pounded for the festival of an idol are not boiled with water. A particular leaf is put in the cooking- pot and the leaf turns into water. You can imagine the quantity of yams that can feed more than two thousand people to be boiled with just a small leaf.

There are known hunters in many villages of Edo State who go to the bush at night, pluck some particular leaves, knot them together ,say certain incantations, throw the knotted leaves on the ground and shoot. An animal is picked from the spot .It is generally believed that animals killed in such a way are tasteless and the hunters cannot eat out of their meat.

I remember an incident in the mid 60s.My late dad had a visitor from his village during the Christmas celebrations. We were kids and playing with fire-works outside the house My elder brother threw the explosive popularly known as knock-out close to where my dad and his visitor sat. When the knock-out exploded ,the visitor was seen coming from behind the house.

As my dad was scolding my elder brother for his insolence, the visitor told my dad to leave him alone that it was a festive period. He told my dad he has the power to leave a particular place as a result of sudden shock. For the rest of the night, he told us stories of how some of their co-villagers turn into animals to eat up crops in neighbours’ farms out of jealousy. This story was substantiated a couple of years ago in one of the local government headquarters of Edo State when a farmer whose crops have been eaten up by a particular animal went one day to farm with his gun.

He met a deer eating his remaining crops and destroying his farm. He shot the deer who turned into a human being immediately .He reported himself to the police but the first son of the deceased testified in favour of the farmer that his late father had the ability to turn into various animals. The farmer was asked only to be responsible for the burial costs of the man and the case did not go to court.

Unlike some Greek philosophical sciences that were later proved partially or totally correct by modern scientific researches, the African sciences have continued to remain mysterious to modern scientific researchers.

The Kwara State police Public Relations Officer was not supposed to parade a domestic animal as a suspect, but that obviously does not mean that certain persons of African origin with certain mysterious means, cannot turn into animals.

Thanks Omogiade for this great piece. In my comments on that thread about the arrest of the goat, I'd submitted that these strange happenings ought to be investigated further. The country has research units, what are they doing? As for the Azande, what was the outcome of the ICI research? Did the scientist establish that there is a dangerous chemical composition which killed the other fowl but which the other's system resisted?

Like you correctly pointed out, there are superstitious belief in the advanced countries, the fact is that when comes to Africa, our people tend to see it in another light. "oh yes, it is primitivity" or "oh yes, it is lack of education or illiteracy" but beyond those hypocritical comments, made especially by Nigerians in the diaspora, is a people that are neck deep in some of those ritualistic practices. I do not need to expand further because I am equally gathering materials to do a piece on this.

By the way Omo, how is Prince Osahon - the chief priest - is the man still in Benin? There was a time I wanted to book an appointment to meet him to arrange and do a research/study with him on ritual practices but circumstances changed and I found myself in the UK. That man's knowledge in African science is versed. Ought to be an authority!

At last!, at last! we devotees of the church Of the holy Goat (COG )will have our day in the sun. We will no longer be denied. No longer will irrationality be the exclusive preserve of the Christians and Muslims.

The Police Public Relations Officer according to many observers, brought the image of Nigeria to disrepute for having the courage to display a domestic animal as a robbery suspect.

Ignorant people.What do they know?

They saw it as an embarrassment to display and detain a domestic animal, who can neither talk nor has features to handle a gun or drive for making attempts to steal a car.

Fools, fools and imbeciles I say. Yet they have no problems in believing that a man rose from the dead, walked on water, floated like a balloon to heaven......

A week or so earlier, there was also an incident where a passenger of an Okada was said to have turned into a tuber of yam as soon as he placed the safety- helmet on his head. The tuber of yam, the Okada operator, were said to have been detained at a police station in Lagos.

O gele O! I missed that one. Another world class religion in the makings

The soup of okro that is used for the pounded yam that serves as meal for the participants throughout the period of the festival, is always from the okro-seeds- planted and harvested within a few minutes.

Ummm, sounds like a useful ingridient that must be added to the initiation rites of the church of the holy goat. These Oyinbo religion has instant wafers, we'll have instant pepersoup.

In another village, a few kilometers from the Edo State capital, the yams that are pounded for the festival of an idol are not boiled with water. A particular leaf is put in the cooking- pot and the leaf turns into water. You can imagine the quantity of yams that can feed more than two thousand people to be boiled with just a small leaf

Sounds perfectly reasonable and believable to me. Afterall , our lord fed the multitudes with 5 fishes and a loaf of bread or something like that.

Even if dem throway put Ajinumoto for inside?

Exactly! exactly!! exactly!!!
This is what I've been saying all along. Nothing but a routine manifestation of tachyonic powers through the manipulation of the laws of quantum physics. No problem for an advance devotee of COG

They've obviously not been visiting the NVS. Certain members including yours truely are known to do that from time to time!

Aisagbon,

It appeared to me as if you are still so buried in superstitions,myths,make-beliefs etc.
The sad thing is that you are still hoding on to such perverse opinion despite the fact that you proclaimed yourself as "born again christian".
But I'm not surprised though, because where else does myths,make-beliefs,superstitions,falsehood thrives.? In the so called churches!
Is it any wonder when Pastor Adeboye told his followers that he drove his car with an empty tank for 200miles? Adeboye is so mythical and he is also a pathetic liar who had succeeded in selling cheap lies to weaklings.
The churches are still so buried in the make-beliefs of witches, withcrafts etc.
The opinion of long standing that you are still holding on to could also be heard loudly from the mouth of Pastors.Opinions like that have been used to subject church members into spiritual slavery and they have been preyed on by demonic Pastors.
Therefore,I'm not surprised a bit that an educated born again christian like you may still be trapped down by this bunch of useless nonsense.
I think it is time for you to do further readings and some personal researches so that you may liberate your mind from this old time rubbish.

No, Aisagbon, people cannot be turned to animals.Or do you have a single living example?

Thanks for this realistic and factual article. The main problem with this issue is that Africans who have embraced colonial religions are in a mission of denying their African heritage. They want to only see the world only through the prism of the white man. But funnily enough, the same white people still thrive on superstitions. There a hotels in the west that have no 13th floor or room.

In the article written by Okey Ndibe on this topic, I asked a question of whether it was possible for a goat to roam the street at that particular hour. In Nigeria of today, where would you see a goat that belongs to no one in the middle of the night?

The truth is that Africans are living in denial. They have been so overcome with the lies of foreign religions. Commonsense would tell one that Africans have always hard a different set of laws when it comes to the supernatural. How could it have been possible for Africans to survive thousands of years ago without the input of such things?

The story mentioned by the author abounds everywhere in Nigeria and the rest of Africa. For example during the civil war, soldiers could not fire a round of ammunition in some villages. The local gods could not allow it. You people who think that such stories belong to myths should research them.

LET THIS DEBATE ABOUT AFRICAN PHENOMENON FLOURISH

Do we know of any practitioner anywhere in Nigeria that can employ this phenomenon (for lack of a better word or desription) to deal with our CORRUPT LEADERS and pave the way for GOOD GOVERNANCE? Desperate CIRCUMSTANCES call for desperate MEASURES.

This is no longer a LAUGHING MATTER. I am prepared to believe a phenomenon that gives me a DESIRED RESULT EVERYONE CAN SEE but will keep all OTHER OPTIONS OPEN in case...Real change is ONLY achieved by the blood, sweat and determination of THE OPPRESSED with or without African Science.

I could not stop laughing at your post:D Funny but absolutely correct.

I often have this conversation with my dad on a daily basis and over the years. No African or human in his right mind does not know that there exist evil spirits or whatever.I will often ask my dad if these so called people had charms that are so powerful why is it when the white man came with guns thses charms where totally useless. Infact I think Europeans upon arrival in Africa realised that whilst their guns gave them an advantage, a far more effective weapon was the use of Psychology on the African diabolical mindset.

In the Nigerian context and me personally it has nothing to do with being a Catholic or christian or whatever, MOST NIGERIANS FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT ANY MISFORTUNE THAT BEFALLS THEM,CANNOT BE OF THEIR OWN DOING AND SOMEONE MUST BE RESPONSIBLE.

Is that not stupidity and self denial of the highest order. The comical incident in Kwara about the goat suspect, makes one ask why was this goat not killed on the spot or revert back to being a human. I remember a few years ago reading in the papers that 3 cats where crossing the road 2 where killed and one was knocked down and later tuned back into a human being. Mob justice was about to be enforced when the Police intevened and the cat turned woman began to confess that she and the other two dead cats where travalling to kill someone. MUMBO JUMBO in my opinion.

Again evil spirits are out there but alot of African stories are based on myths to hold people in fear. Unfortunately most of these myths and evil practices have now been indoctrinated into most of these new age churces and so called born again delinquents!!!!

TRUE OR FALSE:

1. When Awolowo was in jail, he always changed into a cat at night and goes home to sleep with his wife. The next morning he is back in jail before the warders come round.

2. One armed robber was pursued by police and he drove with reverse from Lagos to Ibadan. No accident!

3. Thunder Balogun fired a shot (football), it went inside the goalkeeper's belle and tore the net.

4. Politicians from Old Western Nigeria always change from men to women and from humans to animals esp during riots and coups.

5. In western Nigerian during the days of old (politics), politicians were throwing eggs at buildings and houses and fire burnt down everything.

6. Akintola puts his back against the wall and he goes inside his bedroom just like that.

7. Put up your left leg and no one will see you!

8. When you go to the village, don't let anyone rub their hands on your head, you will never be successful again in your life.

9. Don't eat any public offering: they are taking away your good luck when you do

10. Should I go on and on...

What shall we believe?

The custodians of our history and culture should be consulted rather than we arguing or placing our belief in western ideology afterall breaking a mirror means 7 bad years in most of europe and peeling the paper on your beer bottle means you are having a frustrating love live (according to Europeans)
