You might have been wondering how well he is? Many of the questions on the minds of villagers concerning Baby Andrew , the 14-month old Baby with Down Syndrome (DS) who you helped raise money for his surgery in India is, " Has he gone for the surgery?"
The suspense might have been trying, the tension building but yet, the faith; The Nigeria Village Square(NVS) and Down Syndrome Association of Nigeria (DSAN) faith still remained stronger.
And on the 20th of March 2008 at exactly 2:30 p.m (Nigerian Time) our Baby Andrew went into the struggle of his life; he went into the theatre for a heart surgery.
It took God a second to put the breath of life into Andrew; 12 months for him to come out to the world and another 7 months for his parents to know that he had DS. It took NVS and well wishers all over Nigeria and in Diaspora one month to answer the plea by DSAN to come to his aid. It took six hours for the Angels, working through the surgeons at the Narayana Hrudayalaya Institute of Cardiac Sciences in Bengalore, India, to open Andrew's heart and put it right.
Villagers, sing your praises to the most high because Baby Andrew Duku came out of surgery sucessful.
He is in stable condition and is responding to post surgery treatment. But the journey is not yet over, as we speak, even though the operation was a success, Andy is still in intensive care. He is practically struggling for his life now; he is completely in Gods hands. He needs at this time not for us to rest on our oars, but to further buckle our belts and intensify our collective prayers and support as his little heart struggles to accept the tissue implants and slow down its rate of work to its normal pace.
Details of how the surgery went will be posted soon with his pictures as he is still in the Intensive Care Unit right now. Thank you for being there for Baby Andrew.
