Nigerias award-winning internet columnist and lecturer at the London Metropolitan University, Mr Uche Nworah on Thursday last week at the prestigious Chelsea Hotels, Abuja, launched his book, The Long Harmattan Season. The event which was chaired by the erstwhile secretary to the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and governorship candidate for Anambra State, Chief George Moghalu, as Chairman, had a large turn out distinguished Nigerians and friends of Nigeria. Moghalu felt honoured and the author as a seasoned journalist who he had known for so many years. I am particularly excited about the author and would say that if he was a project or building site, I am one of the brick layers there, he said. The book, The Long Harmattan Season, which was presented and reviewed by the Chairman of the editorial board of the Guardian newspapers, Mr Reuben Abati, is a collection of short stories and satirical commentaries about Nigeria and Nigerians in diaspora. The book contains a total of 66 different write-ups divided into six chapters. These include Gender Related which is a collection of articles on issues relating to sex, women and gender relation. Pot Pourri is a collection of basic narrative articles on the authors different experiences while Internal Affairs is a compilation of articles bothering largely on the Igbo community. Nigerian Politics for Dummies focuses on the politics of the Nigeria State while Shinning Through deals are tributes to certain individuals. Write of Replies includes rejoinders to a number of issues by readers of the author had written on some issues he wrote about. Reuben Abati described the book as an advertisement of the kind of quality work that can be done on the internet, saying that, The Long Harmattan Season is a very refreshing contributions to the growing bibliography of collections by Nigerian authors, and commended the authors style of writing as being, direct commentaries advertising the authors depth of knowledge, his rich experience as well as his commitment and passion in the business of writing. In his own remark, the author, who was attacked by armed robbers a few days after coming into the country, said that the book were a compilation of articles he had written in various websites including nigeriavillagesquare.com, nanka.org, nigeriansinamerica.com and so on. He thanked the Nigerians for coming to appreciate what he had done and promised never to relent in his efforts towards developing a new Nigeria. I believe that we can influence this country to greater heights if every one of us will contribute just a little effort towards building a great and new Nigeria, he said.
