On the 28th of January 2008, you answered a clarion call to give a child you barely knew a chance to live; on the 4th of March of the same year; you handed him the cheque to cater for his corrective heart surgery in India and now, that child is still looking up to you; he needs your prayers to survive that surgery. Baby Andrew Duku, who has somehow become a celebrity, left the shores of the country last week on board an Emirates Airline while receiving smiles and lots of tender loving care from fellow passengers. Andrew’s trip from
The flight was a five-hour flight to
The hospital officials were on ground to take Andy Boy in the hospital ambulance with blaring sirens to show how important ‘our Andy’ is. The hospital is run by one of the best surgeons in the world and there are 11 other Nigerian families there for cardiac surgeries and they all hooked up to Andrew. Little Andy has under gone a few tests. They have taken two echo scans, six blood culture tests, an x-ray as well as the usual weight, height eye lung and other general tests. These have been done in other for them to have a clear picture and know how to tackle Andy’s case. The consultant cardiologist, Dr. John Collin, who is the doctor directly handling Baby Andrew, said that the condition of Andrew’s heart has affected his lungs which made him so susceptible to severe cater and the flu. The test carried out revealed that Andrew has the flu which is causing a blockage in his wind pipe. Dr. Collin said that the flu has to be treated before any other treatment can commence. He however said that that they have discovered that Andy’s condition could be as a result of a certain amount of hyper thyroids and that a Geneticist would begin investigation into this. Once all these have been cleared up, then they would perform the surgery. He did issue a note of warning saying that due to the apparent lung damage, the surgery will be performed alongside a lung specialist since the procedure for the operation is a very delicate one. He gave a 70 per cent chance of Baby Andrew coming out stronger and healthier. As such, what is needed for Baby Andrew now is prayer and more prayer. Villagers, this is a clarion call to everyone, Nigerians and none Nigerians, Andrew Duku would need your prayers when he goes under the surgical blade. As you did become part of this story of love, togetherness and patriotism, also remember Baby Andrew in your daily devotions so that together we will rejoice when he comes out sound.
