The desecration of Lower Volta PDF Print E-mail
By Adeola Aderounmu
The regions making up Lower Volta are well known. Originally existing as several separate regions, the unrelated groups also lived separately and viably as mere neighbours. They spoke different languages and had different cultures. The dusts from intertribal conflicts had settled and every region seems to be minding its own tents until the sudden infiltration of some external bodies. History has it that the various regions were infiltrated and defiled by pretentious missionaries and marauders under the disguise of religion. It appeared to be an orchestrated but sinister move that the marauders invaded from the north and the showy missionaries invaded from the south before swerving inwards.

The separate counties/regions eventually fell to the superior power of Britain and to promote the influence of the queen, the foreign commanding officer unilaterally united the various and separate groups that have been markedly divided by 2 major rivers, a confluence, the copious delta and several distinguished landscapes. It was part of the sinister plan but since no one was gravely deprived in the process or assumed not to be, the noble and the artisans kept their peace and Lower Volta waited for a common revolution that swept through the world in the 20th century before she emancipated herself.

Lower Volta was free again but now as a single entity, an everlasting tussle for supremacy had subsequently emerged. It was the departure of the queen that revealed to South Lower Voltans that there were further cleavages that had been formed that no one took cognizance of, initially. The imaginary and destructive geography of south South, East and West became obvious after the departure of the intruders. Suddenly, the importance of the new found alien education that came with the missionary workers threw up a dissent that would leave an undesirable impression in erstwhile Southern Lower Volta. The North was different; the infiltrators didn’t care about education as much as the missionaries. They propagated a belief that made it easier to tame the people. So, when the queen left, the best legacy bequeathed to the North was unity and subsequent obedience to the noble.

When the queen returned to England with all her officers after an abrupt disengagement, she was afraid that she had endorsed a monster, one that would eventually be able to rise up and become a world power. The other famous world impostors quickly blamed the queen for creating in Lower Volta something that doesn’t exist anywhere else on the planet. The threat that Lower Volta posed to the new world order became intense because of her rapid agricultural progress. The mighty Lower Volta also became a blessing to the other smaller regions; she was like a big brother. Lower Volta pretended to overlook her differences in the beginning of her new found freedom to develop industrially and till her soil where she found liquid gold. Lower Volta was set to rule the world; it shouldn’t take more than 2 decades to arrive. However, it seems that the curse of the talisman finally arrived in Lower Volta probably as a result of the misadventures of a few narrow minded opportunists.

Lower Volta was once revered as the greatest nation closest to the South Atlantic. It is still a place where the sun shines most for the goodness of mankind. Her liquid gold is still a treasure that many nations desired in vain. Lower Volta is special. She was called the chosen one. That she lies in ruins today either directly by misadventures of the very few selected wicked inhabitants or indirectly by the external but unseen hands of the jealous enemies remains one of the unsolved mysteries of the last century. The children of Lower Volta are dispersed on the surface of the earth and they ironically continue to spread what seems like divine blessings to other places. They touched woods and changed them to gold. They have contributed immensely to changing the biggest unification in the West to the most revered country on earth while their own soil back home gets polluted and depleted. They have also been dispersed to the East where they are renowned for their medical exploits. They are said to touch the sick and make them whole. They know the secrets behind the potent herbs and they have not used them wisely enough at home.

Lower Volta must have been desecrated and the cyclic blame and idiocy in the land do not help matters. Keen followers of history and geography are perplexed by the peculiarity of Lower Volta. The more they look, the less they understand of the miseries of Lower Volta. A boy from Lower Volta named Jack is the best footballer alive to have kicked the leather ball but he was not ever crowned, not even in Sahara. Another courageous boy from Lower Volta made the fastest calculating machine in the history of mankind. He is still living in the shadows of Lower Volta, almost anonymously. It is a boy from Lower Volta who wrote a book that was translated to more than 50 languages and read worldwide. He is without honour in Lower Volta. Another Lower Voltan boy won a glorious prize in literature. His knowledge are essentially confined to his brains, Volta will not tap. Would he give? A beautiful Lower Voltan princess recently wrote a book about the yellow sun and the book caused vibrations in the depth of the troposphere yet she is hardly spoken of at home.

The Sahara Bank in Lower Volta is the best bank closest to the Equator. Voltans do not actually understand how that can bring food and glory back to them? Meanwhile, the populace is entrenched in the books of the godly laws given to them several years ago by the missionaries and marauders. Despite all the education and enlightenment at their disposal, the people of Lower Volta have blindly refused to appreciate or acknowledge that rights are not given but earned at birth. They are surrounded by plenty but they toil endlessly getting almost nothing. In Lower Volta, failures and half successes are still painfully applauded as triumphs. It is indeed a mystery how imaginary and real plagues have sapped this once vibrant heterogeneous nation of her courage, her hope, her confidence and her ability to return to a lost glory.

For sure, Lower Volta will need more actions in the days ahead. She did well in the beginning but many independent voices have stated that there are obvious reasons to call a conference that would address the basis for its continuous unification and common agenda. Some of the ways to solve human problems will remain to sit down and talk, dialogue, address issues, discuss differences and forge a way forward, in a sincere way that is. The lack of sincerity and avoidance of genuine talks are means to retrogression, corruption and deceits. Scholars from Lower Volta have reiterated times without numbers that her future lies in her hands. It is not clear who they have been talking to or who has been listening. Wonders, they say, shall never end. What about mysteries?
