It is with much pleasure and excitement that I decided to open a window of opportunity for Nigerians, to state their views on who they desire for Nigeria as President in the next administration in May, 2007. Someone, who is energetic, articulate, committed, and of younger generation than of the present administrator, President Obasanjo. It is in this light, that I see both Gov. Duke and Prof. Utomi's candidacies.
Sometimes in May, 2006, I published an article titled, "My Winning Team for 2007: Gov. Duke & Chairman Ribadu" http://www.nigeriavillagesquare.com/content/view/3097/55/ wherein I had propagated the candidacy of Governor Donald Duke of Cross River State in a joint ticket with Chairman Ribadu as President and Vice President respectively, for the upcoming general elections in 2007. However, many other prominent and qualified Nigerians have since joined the fray of the presidential electoral contest. Specifically, Prof. Pat Utomi of the Lagos Business School candidacy's stood-out glaringly amongst the pack of hopefuls. My intention is simple: I would like for all respondents to this debate, to state their preference for either candidates, and the reasons for their choice. I will very much appreciate if contributors can provide every information, whether good or otherwise, about any or both of the candidates.
The reason for this endeavor is to educate ourselves on the two most "progressive" candidates amongst the overcrowded field of 30 or more presidential aspirants for 2007. And to use this forum in support of any of them that we find agreeable with our individual and collective aspirations. Please note: I am a non-paid supporter of Gov. Duke for President for the reasons already stated in my earlier mentioned article. But I am open to the candidacy of Prof. Utomi if the former's candidacy is not achievable. Thank you all for your time and efforts to make Nigeria proud and great again. God Bless us and Nigeria. Amen. Adebayo Animashaun, the writer, is an keen observer of Nigeria's political affairs.
